"Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not." - Oscar Wilde
- Sometimes we make poor choices...-
1. A woman I heard about had been stripping to support a drug habit. She was offered $10k to do an internet porno with $500 up front. With no manager, she goes to the 'studio', which is really just a motel room, and is subsequently gang raped by five men.
Pop quiz: Which of these is true about the rapists?
a. the rapists never intended to film anything nor pay the other $9500
b. the rapists kicked the shit out of her and stole their money back
c. the rapists called three more of their friends to participate, and afterwards buried her alive outside of Vegas city limits
If you answered any of the above, you're correct. They are all true concerning the rapists.
2. This guy I used to work with casually mentioned one day how he was going to kill his brother for ruining his life. When questioned, he mentioned his brother, who had molested him as a boy, had come to visit his wife while he was deployed. He had never told his wife the awful truth, and it was later revealed that this guy's brother molested his daughter. Because his wife believed it could have been prevented had she known, she divorced him after his brother's trial, gained custody, and what's even more troublesome is that he was and, to the best of my knowledge, still is denied visitation.
-...I'd rather work than steal, but I'd rather steal than starve...-
1. An immigrant told a story about a guy who made it across and lived out the American Dream. He brought over his wife and children and got a paid-under-the-table job of washing cars. His pay could not keep up with the cost of living, however, and forced him to commit armed robbery at the convenience store downtown, in order for him to have the money to get things like groceries and other basic needs. He went to prison, and his wife and children were deported because of their status as illegal aliens.
2. I knew a kleptomaniac in school. A misdemeanant twice over, she said she liked to steal for no reason other than sheer boredom.
-...Insurance assured...-
1. A woman I heard about said the worst thing she ever did was deny an insurance claim against a woman whose mother had fallen ill with breast cancer. The woman's daughter, not less than a few weeks later, is diagnosed with leukemia. Again, the insurance company, specifically this woman who was working the case, argues that because of the grandmother's breast cancer, it's hereditary (albeit completely unrelated), and therefore a preexisting condition, and denies the claim.
-...On wartime...-
1. A guy I know said this about taking life:
"What's the worst part about it? The nightmares? The remorse? The fact that I was awarded for taking someone else's life? No. None of those things.
"See, a nightmare, you can sleep through sometimes. You don't like it, but you learn to deal with it. And no, they're not always the same nightmares, but they're still terrible.
"Remorse? Nah. I've already rationalized it was either him or me.
"But the worst part about it? The paperwork. Yes, the fucking paperwork. You have to fill out so many reports and talk to so many superiors, you can't help but be forced to replay the moment over and over and over for accuracy's sake. Over and over and over. You tell what happened over and over, to different people, and keep thinking about it over and over. Fill out the same report over and over and over. By the time the paperwork is finally done, all you're doing is spouting the same story, but with zero emotion because you're exhausted. That's the way everyone ends up. Exhausted. From paperwork."
Tell me, would you rather be hated or feared?

"If given the choice, it is better to be feared than loved" to paraphrase Machiavelli, so I'd go with Feared.
Yeah, life sucks sometimes. Shit happens. It is what it is.
These are all true about life.
Get over it.
