It's not just about your W-2.
If you own a home, and pay real estate tax, homeowners insurance, mortgage insurance, mortgage interest, etc those are all deductible on Schedule A. Also deductible on the Schedule A are medical expenses (but the rules for that are sheisty...you have to have at LEAST 7.5% of your AGI etc and then it maxes out at a percentage I can't be arsed to remember right now), charitable contributions, etc.
If the total of your deductions on Schedule A is MORE than the IRS' standard deduction, then boom, you deduct THAT amount. But if the standard deduction is more, then you DONT get to deduct charitable contributions, medical expenses, real estate taxes, mortgage interest, et al.
Its a lot more complicated than just that. I mean, people underestimate the rules of the IRS and then complain and bitch when they either dont get as much of a refund as they anticipated or the IRS fucks up and sends them a refund and then turns around 2 months later saying..."wait we gave you too much money now pay us back WITH INTEREST" or something.
Seriously. GET A QUALIFIED TAX PREPARER TO AT LEAST ADVISE YOU ON YOUR TAX SITUATION IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING MORE THAN JUST A W-2.

Seriously no, I don't. I've never heard of a tax return estimator and honestly I wouldnt recommend using one. The likes of H&R Block and Liberty Tax and Turbo Tax WOULD have something like that...but then again you've gotta realize that they take ONE class and consider themselves tax preparers.
If I had a dollar for every 1040X I've seen come through my office that was originally prepared by one of those boxed tax services or an otherwise COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED tax preparer I'd be a rich bitch.

Its a W-4, not a W-2. A W-2 is what you receive at the end of the year and what your place of employment sends into the IRS. A W-3 is what companies send into the IRS summarizing ALL of the W-2s for the entire year, and a W-4 is what each employee fills out at the beginning of their employment/tax year/anytime a major change is made such as marriage, divorce, or the birth of a child to change their exemptions.
Fill it out yourself and give it to your HR department, or your boss, or accounting, or something. www.irs.gov/forms

Fix your W-4 to reflect either 0 or 1 exemption (you likely have 2 exemptions...1 because you're "single" (not married) and 1 because you have only one job) and I'm sure enough taxes will come out of your paycheck.
Also, you need to allow Scottrade to withhold Federal income tax whenever you realize a gain, whether it be short or long term.
