In WWII it was often said that there are no athiests in foxholes. From the 1930s until the late 1980s, "fox" was slang for an attractive young woman, and "hole" had the same slang meaning it has today, referring to the vagina. Therefore, it should be clear that atheists in WWII were not afforded the opportunity to have sex with the vaginas of attractive young women. Too bad for them.

Christianity is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Which, as I recall, were pretty fucking good.
Most Christians don't follow them. Most people don't.
But they should.
Religion is for the weak - but that doesn't mean there are not a lot of strong people who also have weak faith... but it's still there.
Regardless of how plausible a GOD might not be to some people, others embrace the possibility with all of their being.
There is no talking to these people. Same goes with politics. Some people are just plain fucking stupid - no matter what belief they happen to annoy you with.
Christianity as it exists in our society attracts a LOT of stupid people. Stupid loveable people who fill their pews and keep the multi billion dollar industry moving forward.
I imagine they are feeling a recession as well.
They would have to. The more people become aware of how stupid religion is - the more will stop funding the proliferation of such a repressive, controlling idea.
But there is no arguing it does GOOD. As much bad has been done in this world in the name of religion - infinitely more has been done with good "Christian" intentions.
Talking about Religion and Christianity is annoying to people. It's too close to the very core of their being. We are fundamentally hooked up a certain way in life, and it takes a LOT to convince us otherwise.
For the most part this serves us well. There are more things that we collectively agree on than disagree, after all. There are only a few very specific fucked up things going on in anyone's world... for the vast majority of the western civilization life is pretty good.
The rest of the world doesn't matter so much to us as a whole. We have far too much shit to deal with in our own lives. We are busy fucking people... with semi-important things to do, focusing on the starvation of hundreds of millions of people is depressing. Awful, but almost instantly forgettable due to a rather delightful and convenient plethora of distractions.
So if some of us find some spiritual solace that all of this random bullshit isn't completely without reward or purpose. It just makes sense to us - and nothing that is discovered will shake our individual interpretation of why the fuck we are here having this conversation. GOD exists for me - it's my definition and you will have your own.
That's the way it works. It's my opinion that at least most of the people I meet have it wrong... but as long as they are good, honest, enjoyable people: I really don't care. They are welcome to think the same - and many will. We can only go with our guts... and mine say: Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. Forgive people who are truly sorry. Beg forgiveness if you should... and learn from your mistakes... but always enjoy them.
True life is the culmination of all of your memorable experiences. Enjoy them all... create the best one's you can. It's the only currency you could ever hope to trade if there is something beyond this finite existence.
I forget what we were actually talking about - but I'm sure it had something to do with how stupid religion is. Especially the hats.
