Against all odds and taking a lot less tme than anyone thought it would in this economy, I have managed to land a new job. Unless it was "Hey, you won the lottery!", I can't imagine better news to receive on a Friday afternoon. I started last Monday, and it's going pretty well so far.
I am still in the manufactured housing industry, but now I'm out of building them and into repairing them. Buying a used trailer or MH is considerably cheaper than buying a new one. The fact that their referred to as either "new" or "used" rather than "new" or "built in *year*" as are actual stick-built houses is telling.
Some of the ones we get are damaged from fire or tornado or some other incident. Most often these houses are just trashed and vacated by the owners/renters and left empty. Once they're forclosed and reposessed, we go and get them and bring them back to our facility for repairs.
The job is physically demanding what with the rigging and lifting and moving trailer homes, as well as demo work. I have Tardstrength for that. Once that's all done the engineer can look it over and determine what needs to be repaired and the carpenters can do the work. Then my crew gets it back and we move it to the storage lot or take it to the buyer's location and set it up.
In this economy there are a lot of trailers being abandoned so we have a lot of work. It seems like the people who are buying the rebuilt homes are putting them back in trailer parks or dense housing developments as rental properties. I wonder who actually owns them. Probably some big Chinese company.
My wife and kids are happy to have me at work again, especially now that school's out. I guess I'm a bit of a burden. Our yard is immaculate, though, since I've been home to care for it. I did a bunch of landscaping and planting. Now to get the kids to maintain it...
Apologies for the blog, but I'm smiling like a retard at my new situation.

Wow, I didn't expect such a response. Even a tip of the hat from Apollo. My day is made. You're all very kind.
I've learned already that when people abandon MHs and trailers, very strange things get left behind. I should start carrying a camera.
