My new boss sent this to me:
"According to a 2005 survey of 526 companies by the AMA and the ePolicy Institute, 76 percent of companies monitor employee Web site connections, and 36 percent of employers track content that employees are receiving and sending, keystrokes and time spent at the keyboard. And 55 percent of employers retain and review e-mail. All of that monitoring resulted in 26 percent of companies firing employees for misusing the Internet and 25 percent firing workers for misusing e-mail, the survey said."
He said that yes, it is five years old, and the software is better now. I can't Uber from work, nor will I try. This shit will only get worse as the assholes look for any excuse to shove you out the door. Be careful, folks. I don't want to see anyone lose a job in these bad times.

you are correct though
Its really easy to forget that the laptop that you lug around everywhere isn't really YOUR computer.
Uber got blocked for me at work some time back. Honestly it took them longer than I would have thought considering some of the content on here and how careful they have to be about providing a workplace free of harassment in pretty much any form.

2001 called and they want their newsflash back
Acutally, IN 2001, I sat across from some schmoe at my job and I would constantly forward him links from my friends that I knew had videos of woman-on-donkey, midget-on-midget, donkey-on-midget, etc...
Then I'd watch the vid as he opened it.
He "resigned" after about a year, for being a dumbshit and watching them at work.
That's called "Darwinism"

Yeah, it sucks really bad now. Potential employers look at your MySpace and Facebook, and pass judgment on you based on what they see there. So you can't joke around, talk about partying, call your friend "beef curtains", or link to white supremacist skinhead music sites without them getting their panties in a bunch. Then, once you get the job, they drug test you? I hate the world right now.
