Yes I know, shitty post, but I'm just wondering. We are longtime Optimum users and, while happy, are intrigued by the clever advertising and promises of mucho yay that Verizon Fios has been offering.
And, after reading the geek-off entries, it's obvious more than most of you Uberers have some level of certification in nerdality and dorkafication which, I believe, requires you to partake in a pre-requisite course of based on not only Fios Vs Cable but also the long-ago (and now extinct debate) of satellite vs. cable.
Any advice on which to choose?

I sold FIOS for Verizon and it was horrible. I had dozens of people coming back a week after installation with horror stories and even more coming back to me with $400 bills.
I had it for 3 months and still have yet to have my first bill of $500 resolved by Verizon.
Brighthouse bought out my contract in exchange for getting thier $115 package that I am VERY happy with.
However, I have also talked to dozens of others that are very happy with their FIOS service. Their movie channels are amazing, and the quality is pretty impressive if you have the right TV with the right cables.
It seems to be luck of the draw with Verizon. I would rather not even gamble and go with Cable. A little slower net service, but no hassle at all.
Hope that helps out!

Fios is great. The phones are clear. The internet is lightning. The On Demand library is massive.

Whichever doesn't have you sign a contract.
If you're locked in, you can't bitch about the price and get it changed. I work for a major cable company, and have noticed that if you're a big enough bitch, someone up the ladder will always give you something for free to keep you as a customer.

I said, "Do you want to come back to my place?"
She said, "Do you have cable?"
I said, "Oh, I'm sure the ropes will be plenty strong enough."

I have cablevision, and have used the fios, its WAY better from what I can see. Not sure how the actual service is, but the functionality is better.
