i'm disappointed in the lack of nsfw.

Did anybody see the new Star Trek movie? I thought it fucking sucked. Am I alone in my assessment?
I didn't see it yet. I hope i doesn't suck as much as everybody says.:(

I thought it was ok. The casting of Eric Bana and Leonard Nemoy was a little insulting, but overall it kept my attention.

It's no lie that the movie was able to hold your attention, but I didn't feel it was for the right reasons. I didn't mind the "update" to the design of the ship, and the overall casting wasn't a problem for me, but the acting was terrible. Spock was pompous instead of emotionally detached, Kirk was childish and snotty instead of roguish and he goes straight from cadet to captain? That's fucking retarded. McCoy was engaging but he was barely there, and all the other characters were paper thin.
Also, this is my inner geek complaining, but the very first ship in the movie (the one that Kirk's dad was on) would never have been able to achieve warp drive according to the established Star Trek tech canon. A ship in the Trek verse requires at least 2 warp nacelles set parallel to each other with an unrestricted forward Bussard ram jet to establish and maintain a stable warp field.
