Aussieland is in the same position as canada. Shitloads of jobs everywhere and nobody to fill them due to too many natives who live off benefits their entire lives and too many bogans who think they should live off benefits their entire lives.... and everyone else is too old and/or dying.
Oh and half the population lives in london now or so they keep telling me.
I'm not sure you'd get residency tho, we have some of the worlds harshest visa and residency laws. Good luck! On the flipside, if you do get residency, everything is free from then on.

You seem to have plenty of skills and nicely differentiated too.
Go to Canada if you have better chances there.
I'm living abroad for more than 5 years now and it's the best thing I did for myself in a long time.
Anyway, your call.
Goodluck.

Good luck, girl.
Seriously- Enjoy a week or two like it's vacation. Chances are you deserve it and won't see it again for a while. If you get any severance, bank your unemployment in the interim. Get as thrifty and creative as possible. I was in a modestly comfortable but niche-y position (that I loved) with little opportunity to find something related, ans spent 5 months trying to fall back on 6+ year old office mgmt/admin skills and got nowhere. You are talented and might do well to try to capitalize on your cooking/crafty talents. In my experience, sending resumes out for general admin jobs was like throwing them into an abyss.

no1 has answered your question.
here employment might be doing a bit better (it's going down in some areas) because of demographic problems, but then again, you have the language barrier.
anyway, not trying to tell you canada is a dreamland. but i'd check it out. you live in NY.
it's not like you'd be moving very far. pretty much the equivalent of driving to american's 51st state.

Truth below. The effect up here is virtually non-existant. There is no slow down. I work in consulting, and can tell you construction is still in full swing coast to coast. Outside of some jobs lost in Ontario and Alberta, there really hasn't been much of a change in unemployment.

with a strapon, anyone can be my gf.
seriously...if you're looking for a job, like i told jeannee, move here.
Canada has left this crisis relatively unscathed. And it's like it never happened in the city where I am...Qc city.
rent is low, life is easy and there are tons of jobs. going from among the highest birth rates (thank u catholic church) in the world to one of the lowest in the last decades has left us with a labor crisis that has begun in recent years and getting worse. some businesses are already closing temporarily because they lack employees. we need people to replace the boomers and we don't have enough immigrants.
my two cents.

i've been looking for a new job for two years. now every other person unemployed out there has a degree. i couldn't afford school then and can't now and i have this feeling that i won't be able to earn the rest of any degree by october.
i'm thinking life of crime might be the only way to go.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You'd hardly be the only former professional working in the "life of crime" field at the moment, so remember there's high competition in that market as well.
Still, since you'll have so much time on your hands, maybe you could make me a pirate hat now? In return I could give you career advice!
------------
1500s pirates or 1700s pirates? i thought i wasn't going to have enough time to make all things i'm supposed ot be making for people but now that's obviously not going to be true.

Sorry to hear...does this mean I don't get my package?
What is your skill set?
-------------
no it means you might get more actually depending what we're told to throw out.
heavy data entry, reception, 100+wpm typing (on a typewriter also), proofreading, image manipulation with photoshop (although my "better" stuff is home use), invoicing and payments, shipping with four couriers domestically and internationally. programs used: ms office, filemaker, photoshop, entourage, internet browser, mac and pc capable, fax/copier, gigantic filing and inventorying projects, heavy organization, scanning, some blurbing, can also make coffee.
==============
FUCKING AWESOME! (about the package)
I think that with your skill set your poised to handle any entry level job and I don't mean this in a disparaging way. The trick is to camouflage these skills with a little ummph and you are very well qualified to be a executive assistant or innumerable other positions including but not limited to stock clerk, office assistant, file room/data entry, shipping/receiving clerk, and possibly even office management.
I'd start your job search now, unless you don't mind collecting 60% (and can sustain a living) from unemployment. It will take you the better part of two months to find a job and even that's not guaranteed. Make sure your resume is aces and if you need help with that I make a mediocre resume look mother fucking awesome. You have my email so don't be afraid to ask for help or anything. Good luck, Katy!
