Being a Canadian, I grew up with universal health care. I'm pretty happy with it and am happy to tell any Americans who asks what it's like up here. If the proposed US health care reform goes through as is, it won't make US health care exactly like Canada's but will have some basic similarities.
While most news sources are trying to pass off fear-mongering bullshit like "end of life care = forced euthanasia for the elderly and infirm" as genuine concerns, I refuse to believe that anyone with 46 chromosomes actually thinks this is a possibility.
What do you actually know about the bill being proposed?
Are you worried about it?
What are some real concerns you've heard from others? (retarded or reasonable)
What questions do you have for the many Canadian/UK uberers or others from countries with UHC?

see people, thats the thing - obama doesn't want to fix healthcare. he doesn't want to help you, or your family. he wants to ruin america by putting as far into debt as he can, taxing the ever living shit out of us, and establish himself as dictator. his whole "millions of americans are insured" and "think of the children" lines are just complete bullshit. he's telling you what you want to hear, so you'll support his plans.

You damn Canadians. Stop trying to spread your herpes. Theres a reason 90% of the Canadian population lives within 100 miles of the US border -- so you can possibly have the pleasure of smelling an American fart one day. And BTW, Labatt Blue sucks major ass. Please stop exporting it.

I have to have my wisdom tooth removed, dentist said they would do it for a fee but I can go to the dental hospital and have that baby removed for free.

Against subsidized abortion eh? I'm not going to get too far into that one because viewpoints on this tend to remain fixed but basically the idea is that by providing abortions for women who can't afford it, they're saving the woman and the fetus from a life of poverty over a mistake or a birth control failure (raising a kid is fucking expensive).
To play the libertarian's advocate, statistically, you'd also prevent the kid from floating around from foster home to foster home and the crimes that would probably stem from the abuse there.
In Canada, though medical care is free, dentistry will charge up the ass for any procedure unless you have insurance issued through your job. Luckily, even jobs like Staples' call center provide insurance options, including a free plan that will cover 50%.

I know dick about the bill being proposed, but know plenty of people who are against it and just spew what smells like bullshit day in and day out.
I also know people who have no health insurance and are in one hell of a bind. I also know people who are out of work and can't get health insurance. I also know people who work and don't get health insurance. I also know that pretty soon I'll be graduating and will lose my health insurance.
So despite my rther apathetic feelings towards politics, it would be nice if someone would give an objective, unbiased description of what exactly the bill is, what it says, and what it will mean.
However, I'm skeptical as to whether I'll actually get that information here.

I was watching the Newshour with Jim Lehrer the other day, and some cunt opposing the bill said, "I downloaded the bill and read it yesterday" before she started blasting it with the same talking points all the republicans are using. What a lying cunt. I hate everyone.

The difficulties of implementing universal healthcare could also be avoided by the legalisation of heroin.

For the sake of devil's avocado.
Access to free healthcare should be based on service to the state, either via the public or private sector. Every year in employment would net a certain number of points, lets call them Cesc Fabregas points, and they can be exchanged for medical services. Say you have a weird blemish on your arm so you go visit your GP. That costs one Cesc Fabregas point. For every year of continuous employment you gan 5 Cesc Fabregas points.
Obviously old age will require a lot of Cesc Fabregas points.
We legalise euthanasia and make it available to anyone who wants it including the depressed and the young. We import doctors from India and the developing world but we abandon the current residency system in favour of a more comprehensive sheparding system. The doctors will live together in communal facilities where all their needs are met by a dedicated staff. They will not be able to leave these facilities without express permission from the facility coordinator and even then only under heavily armed gaurd. They could remain in these facilities for, say, 10 years and then become eligable for Government membership.
