i am sick with a cold or a flu.
i don't know which is which and i don't care.
i should be frolicking on the moonlit beach, instead i'm watching a game of football on tv. rugby league to be precise.
jarrod hayne, apparently the new wonder boy, is wearing flamboyant bright red boots.
DOEN'T HE KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING?? HASN'T ANYONE TOLD HIM ABOUT CHANGA LANGLANDS???
on another note: who believes in monogomous 'i will love you forever and only ever fuck you for the rest of my life' type relationships?
who thinks they are realistic and sensible and should be strived for?
and if you think they are unrealistic, what are the alternatives?

_______
I do.
I think that only weak commitment-phobic emotionally and morally retarded people are incapable of monogamy (in a relationship where that is the norm, I'm not including people who have consensually "open" relationships in my blanket statement). There is no excuse, in a relationship where the balance of power is reasonably equal, for faithlessness. If it's not working, you break up, if it's working well enough to stick with it, you don't go bumping uglies with other people. We all know that kissing/fondling/fucking doesn't just happen. There is a lead-up, a thousand opportunities to say no before you get to anything approaching infidelity, and we all know that being drunk doesn't mean you don't know what you're doing. You just don't care as much. But we also all know that feelings about other people (either of like, love or just plain sexual attraction) can happen to anybody at any time. Your responsibility as one half of a twosome is to ensure that you don't act on it, that it doesn't affect your partner or your relationship, and eventually the feelings will pass.
People just don't take enough responsibility for their own happiness. It doesn't just happen, it's not an inalienable right, it's something that we sometimes have to work for and work at.

I don't know what to believe in or strive for. Nothing seems to be working. Logically, monogomy doesn't seem possible or even ideal, but that's what I want.
But right now I want to play my SimCity Societies game.

RE: Monogamy in relationships-
Ironically enough, my girlfriend feels monogamy is nearly impossible, and humans aren't wired to think that way, rather it's trained into us. She's of the mind that if I want to pursue another relationship with someone else, it's my right as a person.

I think that mahogany is a very classy wood. I don't know how practical it would be to make furniture out of it, though. Its grain is slightly overbearing. I'd prefer cedar furniture.

I was talking about actual blankets there, but yes I accept the point about serial monogomy being not what we're looking at here. I do see this very much as a temporary state of affairs though.
It seems daft to spend the rest of your life with someone who turns out, after a few months, to seriously get on your nerves and depress you. I am not wordly though, perhaps all relationships reach this stage?
Maybe true monogomy is similar to a masochistic activity like mountain climbing or long distance running?
Hmm... my instinctive use of negative terminology there indicates maybe I am against permanent monogomy. That may be a learned response though. Child of divorce and all that.

berty, i notice you say 'blankets' rather than 'blanket'
having a series of girlfriends you are faithful to in turn while you are with them is a very different thing to attempting to be 'faithful' to the SAME PERSON for forty of fifty years
the idea of trying to live forty years of monogomy with someone is actually in some ways the most extreme and wild sort of crazy adventure imaginable.

The idea of monogamy is so firmly entrenched in the human psyche that even when it's not what you want, it's what you want. And vice versa.
There are benefits to intimacy that you can't get if you just fuck around all the time. But there are benefits not tying yourself down as well. Depends on the person, I guess.

off the field though, no, i don thtink he does, hes pretty mentally retarded - but hes a fucking freakish athlete, though.

I like monogomy more than I like AIDS or false claims of rape.
Plus, a more or less guaranteed source of vagina (or penis if you're a woman.) is excellent as well, even if it is down for maintenance a few days every month.
There's also the issue of whether you'd rather deal with the devil you know, or the new psycho one who hides it under a pretty facade.
Tax breaks.
Less bitching from older family members.
Stability, comfort, trust.
Combined income, half the expenses.
However, if you're in a monogomous relationship, and not getting these things, then perhaps an open relationship is in order for you, or perhaps you should just ditch em and go elsewhere.

when you say you like monogomy, bertie, do you mean in the sense you like being in an exclusive relationship with one other person 'while it lasts'?
or do you imagine getting married in the hope that it will last all your life?
------------
Sorry old chap, work keeps getting in the way of the real issues.
What I'm groping for is the ideal of stability. That humans, or rather some humans, thrive on a stable environment. Emotional stability in the form of one's homelife and partner. Love as the sensation of a warm blanket draped around one's soul, if you'll forgive the romantic metaphore, rather than exhilerating hand grenades of passion.
Have you ever tried throwing hand grenades for 40 years? There are people in Columbia who have and they will tell you that it is very tiring. The same can be said, I think, of leaping from relationship to relationship.
Although logically, now that I think about it, it seems plausable that a man sitting under a blanket for a decade or more will entertain powerfull thoughts about leaping into his car to have a high speed chase and a daring rooftop escape from a sexy assasin with a scar on her face.
If you know what I mean.
Personally I've enjoyed being under blankets since before puberty and never been one for rooftop escapes as I live in deathly fear of developing long term knee trouble, but then I am a young man and have yet to experience/understand the full power of regret. What do you reckon?

You know it's funny; this very morning there was some Christian on Radio 4 talking about vows and such. The thing that interested me was the whole concept of a lifetime commitment to something, anything really, and how short sighted it seemed in a rational sense.
Don't get me wrong about monogomy though. I like monogomy. I believe it is rewarding on many levels.
