I came across a post at ebaumsworld... see the link if you want.....
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/80741207/
Anywho....
It got me thinking... I remember when I was a kid, or even just before the internet... Getting your hands on Porn was a challenge...
I mean as a kid forget it. Unless an Uncle or your dad had a stash, or you found something walking home from school, caught an obscure boob on that cable channel scramble, had a friend with a black cable box with parents out of town, or you stole it... You were pretty much shit out of luck...
Even when you were old enough, you had to walk in and buy it in a seedy liquor store and then do the walk of shame back to your car wondering if the person at the counter was envisioning you going home to rub one out... which I was never a big fan of and therefore only did that a couple of times when I was in the military.
Well, now with the Internet you can pretty much find it without effort, fuck you can find it without even looking or it... Hell it can pop up without even doing anything.
The internet INUNDATES people with porn. TO the point now where porn is no longer a taboo subject that you talk about with those close to you... it is nearly totally socially acceptable.
Not that I have a general problem with that per se.... I mean I don't know a single heterosexual guy that on some level doesn't take some primal pleasure out of pornography, myself included. I have come to certain personal and moral realizations that cause me to stay away from it, but I mean... I AM a guy.
I don't have a problem with adults that like porn, or with the fact that purveyors of porn MAKE porn. Hell Fap away if it makes you happy...
The problem is that there is no global standard for keeping it out of the hands(or eyes) of kids.
What concerns me most is the fact that I have 4 kids. I do monitor their usage of the computer very closely, none of them have any real concept of porn or sexuality as they just aren't at that age yet.... all it would take is for one of my boys needing to write a paper about Jesse James or research a female name in google and BAM... I have to answer some really troubling question to a 6,7,8,or 9 year old.
Comping across porn should not be so damned abritrary, Not because I feel the need to shelter them or demonize sex at all... but you have to understand as a parent of a young child how do you rationalize what they see if they are to happen across some porn...
Any parent will recognize the consequences of lying to them so you can't really do that.
Can they understand the concept of procreation enough to give them the old birds and the bees speech? At 7 I could barely count change... soo yeah... chances are they arent gonna get it. All they are gonna wonder is why that guy is peeing white stuff on that girls face.
Explain that to an 8 year old.
As you can see, for a parent, the ease of access of this stuff to children that really aren't ready to comprehend it, poses some concern.
Don't get me wrong, for a guy, puberty and porn kind of go together. Realistically nearly every boy at around age 13 develops a fixation for sex that will last well... til death. Inevitably, porn becomes a manifestation of personal sexual curiosity, discovery, and experimentation... but at 6,7,8, and 9... I don't think my kids are ready for that. Hell I doubt most people would disagree with that.
Yes I know there are programs and safeguards that you can put in place on a computer, but lets face it... they are not full proof, and even one minor exposure can be very traumatic on a young child, not to mention will pose some serious problem for a parent that needs to try and explain it and put in in pers
I guess it is the price you pay for the ease of access to global information.... but I guess we should be surprised that children aren't staying children for long anymore....
It really is kind of sad.... and as a parent.... kind of scary.

I've met a set of identical twin hookers that were 11 years old (I was 15 at the time) who took much pride in nailing married men and were quite open about it.
--------------
please, tell me this isnt true so that i can restore my faith in humanity.

Sorry, spuj, I can't tell you that. Their names were Shelley and Kelley (I kid you not) and their mother was a bigger ho than they were (and she also took much pride in personally "vetting" her little girls' conquests before the girls ever got to touch them - that's right, to sleep with those little hos, ya hadta sleep with the big ho first). Why didn't anyone report the woman or do something about it? Because of where they lived - the projects. Anything went in that place. I'm just happy that I only used to visit the hellhole and didn't have to actually live there.
And the bright side is: if that was happening in 1985 then how much worse must things be now? Oh, that's not the bright side. My bad.

it makes you wonder what goes through these people's fucked up minds.
ah well. all the best to you!!

I guess it is kind of a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.
On one side, if one has a good childhood, it is arguable that one would be compelled to raise their children as they were raised, modeling their parenting off of what they were taught as they were parented. This is my particular situation.
Under those circumstances, the game has changed. The variables of raising a child in this generation are vastly different from those of the generation in which I was raised as a child. So what worked then potentially might not work now.
On the flip side, if you play to the hand that you are dealt, ie: our technologically advance, morally compromised society, then the rules that now apply to raising youth are so different that you have to parent to the capacity of the world we are in.
Chaos.
You can't play to your experiences because your experiences are invalid and irrelevant to our times.
SOOO
as a parent you are crippled by a lack of presidence.
Yeah I am pretty sure we are fucked.... proper fucked as a species.

This is a good point, and something I'm going to need to consider since I have an impending fuck-trophy. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be like the guy says below and make sure my kids learn about things from Daddy before the other kids teach him.
But saying that I don't know how i'm going to edumacate my kid yet. He's still in my mrs.

Think YOU had it tough?

lol.
The internet has added a whole new level to parenting. And it is a double edged sword.

Good post. However, I feel that if they're old enough to ask about, they're old enough to get a straight answer. But, then again, I don't have kids so my opinion counts for fuck all in this debate.

Sorry man, your 9 year old has probably already seen porn a few times.
8 and 9? That's what, like... 3rd and 4th grade?
Dude.
You don't even WANT to know what they're talking about on the playground...

my first experience with porn was around 97. i heard someone talk about it in class and was curious.
turns out it was tranny porn
i thought girls had penises for the next three years and that their vaginas were under the ball sac.
good times

agreed. i see 10 year old girls dressed in ways that make me want to...speak to their parents, and tell them not to buy those clothes for them.

I hadn't thought about it like that, lacking kids as I am, but that's a good point. Can't you get software that will filter that stuff though?

Valid points, all, but you are ignoring a few key things and I can't help but say something about it. Pardon me but I'm willing to wager this will be a long response. Apologies beforehand and with full expectations of many "WTFINRAT" ejaculatory responses, I'll proceed anyway. Because that's how I roll.
Kids are ignorant but they're not stupid. Just because their experience is limited which makes them ignorant of many things does not mean that they can't pick up on things. You must also take into account that they do have peers and not all of their peers are from backgrounds that are adequate incubators of innocence. For instance, when I was 5 years old, I was into Hershey's® bars and Coca-Cola® and Matchbox® corvettes. When my first cousin was 5 years old, he could shoot whiskey, shoot squirrels, roll a hawg leg and smoke it, and he had an impressive stash of porn under his bed that had been handed down to him by his father (the same man that taught him to shoot, drink, smoke, and wank - but I'm not going into that story here). I was 10 years old when my cousin was 5 so I had double the time on the planet that he had yet I had no idea that porn even existed and had never heard the word. He was raised that way by his father; I was raised in my fashion by mine. We didn't live far from one another but we may as well have been reared on two different planets and the gulf between us is rather extreme. We get along well, though, and despite his head start in the drinking category, I'm an Irish throwback and can drink him under the table. I've met a set of identical twin hookers that were 11 years old (I was 15 at the time) who took much pride in nailing married men and were quite open about it. You meet just as much variety on the playground as you do on a subway platform or in a schoolroom. Just because you've raised your children to be fairly innocent, do you honestly believe every parent does the same?
In the end, you really must ask yourself the following question: Do I want my children to find out about (insert topic [sex/drugs/politics/religion/etcetera] HERE) from me first or from those strangers/peers that they come into contact with every single day? That's truly the only relevant question. All others are just so much dressing.
And, yes, I have kids and, yes, that's how I'm raising them. They profess to love me for some strange reason. I think it's because I buy them pizza.
Anyway, good luck with the kids. As maddening and annoying and sometimes astounding as kids can be, they certainly make every day interesting.
