What simple_catalyst said makes me wonder... is there a video game in which your character plays other video games?
I mean, some PS3 or Wii-level hypergraphics type game wherein your character plays against others in old-school 8-bit video games? Your character could get fatigue delays as you play for more time, distractions like mom telling you to shut that crap off and come downstairs, the characters could try to consume Doritos and Mountain Dew or whatever while continuing play. You could have a different old game for each level of the new one, and maybe the last level is a grainy zombie-killing game where your character is transported into the old game when you win it, like in The Bishop of Battle. Put the thing online and all the characters of people who have beaten the game can battle it out in the old game zombie-killing arena for the title of Virtual Virtual Zombie-Killing Champion.
Anything like that out there?
