a few weeks ago one of my friends here in Switzerland was complaining about how he couldn`t get any shrooms (magic mushrooms) to trip on. the complaining went on and on, about how it wasnt fair, and he wanted to trip, how he "needed" to buy some, blah blah blah.
fast forward to last week:
he informs me that due to the lack of shrooms, he has found a new and wonderful way to trip: Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds. As far as I know, they are very small seeds taken directly from the Hawaiian Baby Woodrose plant, which happens to be a very beautiful flower native to Hawaii (oddly enough). Apparently the Hawaiian natives used to chew these seeds and trip as part of some ritual (something along the lines of the native americans tripping on paoti during "vision quests").
they also apparently contain LSA, a slightly different form of LSD, but supposedly less powerful/harmful. I`m not into hard drugs and do not ever plan on tripping LSD, so this fact made me a little cautious. I have read some about these seeds, as i am trying to make an informed decision as to whether or not I want to do them.
My questions for discussion:
Has anyone ever heard of/taken these seeds before?
Does anyone know any other information about them, including side effects and possible health problems?
I have browsed the internet a bit, but can anyone direct me somewhere that will give me info on the seeds?
Thanks for your input.
peace

Dial in 1980 on the way-back machine. Me and my drug cronies used to peruse the ads in High Times for woodrose and morning glory seeds that were sold as 'untreated'. Presumably if you went down to the local feed & seed and swiped a few packs of morning glory seeds, you would get violently ill because they contained some sort of chemical. Don't really know if that's true. A friend of mine ate three whole jimsom.. jimpson? weed pods one time. He went blind for two days and sounded like a chipmonk when he talked.

They were also used to make a reddish brown dye that was used for clothes. If prepared properly this can be fun. If prepared improperly this can be very poisonous.

I first read about morning glory and hawaiian baby wood rose seeds as being natural sources for lysergic acid. Never actually did it though. Read about it in the Anarchist cookbook.
Rememeber unless you are a friggin bio-chemist and understand what you are doing you may very well kill yourself...wouldn't that be a cool note in your school paper.
Local student dies eating homemade acid.

Morningglory, the seed, does the same thing as peyote, but you will get sick about a half-hour after you eat them. It lasts about 10 minutes, then you are cool.

Or for the lazy:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fourteen Ohio teen-agers trying to get a free "high" off plants out of their gardens ended up in the emergency room, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.
The youngsters evidently thought they could get stoned by eating the seeds of a local plant called the moonflower but did not realize they were toxic, the CDC said.
"Plants with large fragrant flowers that bloom at dusk are referred to as moonflowers," the CDC said Thursday in its weekly report on death and illness.
There are several species, some of which are toxic, including Datura stramonium, commonly known as jimson weed.
The teen-agers in the Akron and Cleveland area ate the seeds of Datura inoxia, one of the toxic species.
"This may represent a new trend of substance abuse in this area," the CDC said.
The children, with an average age of 17, were all lucky in that they got medical help. They had dilated pupils, rapid pulse, hallucinations and an inability to urinate.
They were treated and their symptoms disappeared after 24 to 48 hours.

My friends took them, and I was around them twice when they did so.
They very much enjoyed themselves, and the seeds very much worked.
The only caveat I would send your way is that they got physically sick about half an hour in both times, but after they were done being sick (1 minute in the bathroom really) they were fine.

I personally do not have experience with taking any rosewood.
In case you have not seen it already, this site is chock full of all kinds of info about safeness/manufacture of drugs: http://www.lycaeum.org/
