What the fuck is with bitching and moaning about typos and abbreviated words? Every time someones post contains words like "def" (Definitely) "w/" (with), or typos like "teh" or something, everyone goes crazy with the -2's.
Example:
Post: "...i went to teh supermarket today..."
Comment 1: "Oh my God, you didn't capitalize the 'I', and holy shit who spells "the" wrong? And what ever happened to that little something called a PERIOD? You suck.
Comment 2: "To whoever made the below comment, your 2nd sentence started with "And", which is not correct. I wouldn't be talking ifd I were you.
Comment 3: "*If I were you"
I mean, c'mon this is just pathetic! If the post has such bad spelling and grammar that you can't even understand it, then please, go ahead and flame the bastard. But if you get the point of the post, even if it does have a couple misspelled words, dude, that's just fucking stupid. Unlike your sorry ass, alot of people on this site have places to go and things to do, and don't have time to spellcheck each post and have a peer edit it for them.
Yeah, that's right, fuck you.

Misspellings are one thing, we all do it and sometimes our right hands type faster than our left hands, but like her Lokiness said, it can be distracting. If I'm writing out a long post, I usually type it on Word, make corrections then cut and paste it to the Über format.
Using abbriviations is worse. Save that crap for the kiddie chat rooms. Besides, if you use that too much on the computer, you start to make a habit of it and use it in day to day writings. How many teachers want to see a report writen out in all internet babble, or would your supervisor at work like paper work handed in writen like that?

I think people generally only comment if it's just too distracting. I'm a horrible speller and type way to0 fast so it's not like my posts are perfect or anything. I don't have a problem with things like teh as long as I can figure out what it's supposed to be. When it's so bad that I can't tell what is going on I just bail out and don't even bother.

OK, you do have a certain point, but you are also wrong ;-)
The vast majority of misspellings on this site are not commented on. People mostly point them out when the other person makes a large number of mistakes, has previously flamed someone else for mistakes (and is therefore a hypocrite), deliberately makes mistakes (stupid teenaged häx0r or whatever), or puts mistakes in the title (come on, you should at least get that right).
It has been shown that spelling ability correlates quite closely with intelligence, so people are often making a valid point.
Nobody is saying people should employ proofreaders. It's just that intelligent people are capable of putting together correct sentences.
