So Im heading for Quatar real soon. Im heard alot of stuuf about it, and the two bases(Camp Snoopy and Al Udeed). Im wondering if any of the Ubermilitary have been there and can offer advice, or lemme know the type of shit there is to do on the base, and in the town. Also Im curious about the weather. My squadron is useless, so I need some tips on clothes and that type of stuff. So can anyone help me?

GodChickn is right. I lived a civvie live in Dubai for three years. Feel free to e-mail me at mrbradtoyou.at.hotmail.com if you have some questions. I'd be more than happy to answer you.
It's different there, however I wasn't a political threat and as an Australian, the Arabs don't view me the same way as they do Americans or Britons. I was also working in business and most of my friends were Arabs. I have a lot of regard for Gulf Arabs; I understand (even if I don't agree with) how they live and think.
If you want to, fire away. It's a grand experience.
Allah Maakum.

I just came home from Bahrain a few months ago. Qatar isnt much different.
Bring shirts with a collar. preferably short sleeve. Slacks/cargo pants/chinos are an extremely good idea, as Denim jeans dont "breathe" well and you'll sweat your nuts off.
The dress code in the Centcom AOR requires a collared shirt. No shorts, no thongs. nice sandals are okay.
Going shopping is the best part about the entire area. if you have ever been curious about Indian herbal medicines, this is one place to learn about it. get lost in the local bazaar. Find the little hole in the wall shops that sell incense and have bins of dried nuts/spices/herbs and you'll score some good stuff. real Saffron, from iran, is fairly inexpensive there, whereas its like fucking GOLD in the states. if you know a gourmet cook, buy them some or sell that shit.
Incense (frankincense, myrrh) is also cheap, and the pure resin is most widely available. Easy 300% markup when sold stateside. I made more than a few bucks shipping this crap home.
Silk is also widely available. Get a couple hand tailored suits made for cheap. a $500 suit may cost you $100.
if you are unfamiliar with some of the customs in arab culture, leave me a message. after 2 years over there, I got to be friendly with quite a few of them.
Oh yeah, and if you smoke.. quit cigarettes. Smoke Shisha. its the stuff in the big turkish water pipes.. only time in your life you can take a hit off a "bong" and its legal!

i am assuming it is as sandy as my base was in the UAE. bring a couple pairs of shower shoes. the sand is smooth like baby powder.

I have been to Qatar on a visa run from the UAE. It's not bad, they are nice people, but I wasn't there to kill their Arab brethren, so I'm not sure how you will go.
It gets very hot. And it's sandy.
