I just broke up with my girlfriend of eight months. Hopefuly someone out there won't make the same mistakes I did. Its not a funny story and really probably not that interesting anyway but here's is my story:

So I met her in the dorms last year; She lived a floor away. I was skeptical about getting into any relationships because Hey! I'm in college I should be out having fun with lots of girls and keeping my options open. Anyway, I decided to dive into a relationsip with her anyway and it turned out to be one of the best things I ever did. It worked out great because her roomie transferred mid semester so she had her own room which i basically moved in with her. It was the first time I had ever spent that much time with a girl, its different somehow. Anyway after this great relationship we decided to stick it out over the summer, which was fine, and see how things were when we got back.
That's when the trouble begins. Once I got back to school I remembered about all the other girls and the whole party scene and what being in a relationship was making me miss out on. I started to get commitment-phobic and one night told her I was 'uncomfortable with how serious our relationship had gotten'. Yeah. So we eventually decide to see other people which at first was great. But then one day she decides that were over. Just like that. I mean I thought we were just taking a little break until we figured out what we want but she just didn't give me that option. She said she realized that being with me wasn't what was gonna make her the happiest at that time. This came as a total shock to me. During our whole relationship, i never questioned her undying love for me. I loved her too, but was I 'in love' with her? Not always. It was hard because i was still considering getting back with her and she had already made up her mind.
Weeks pass and its clear we are both missing eachother greatly. We wanted to try and be friends still, but when you have what we had its hard to throttle down like that. I found myself thinking about her more and more, especially at night before bed and when I woke up. I dreamed about her often. I finally decided I wasn't ready to let us I die so I told her I wanted to see her and she said she wanted to see me too. I wanted to tell her how much I loved her and missed her and try to start over and see if there was still a chance for us. Then she gave her reply, "I'm dating someone else."
I didn't know what to say. I strangely wasn't mad, surprisingly indifferent really. We talke for about an hour, and in the end we hugged and parted ways. Then i came home and started writing this. I don't know why I just needed someone to talk to I guess. I have just realied that I am in love with her. But its too late.

Know exactly how you feel. Pretty much in the same boat, though with a few other complications tossed in for good measure. It'll pass, I'm sure and it it's meant to be, it will. Not much else you can do about it.

i did that to my boyfriend, went out with someone else, realized how much i loved him, and got back with him. But what was really bad for me was when he would tell me how much he loved me when i was dating the other guy. It hurt so much. Point of advice...if you love her, you would want her to be happy. and if she is happy with this other guy, show her your love and let her do this.

I would attribute the downfall of your relationship due to moving in with her before your relationship was ready for such a thing. I made that mistake in college too, and it hurt pretty bad. Especially since I still had to room with my ex-partner.

Good luck to you.

Sorry to hear this dude. I wish I had the answers but getting over someone is hard. Random fucking, hobbies, drugs, are all good ways to deal with it but you gotta find what works for you.
Peace,

I didnt read all the replies so if this is repeated sorry. I was in the exact same situation as you when i went to college. Except it lasted for 3 years instead of 8 months. Consider yourself extremely lucky. You do not, i repeat YOU DO NOT want a girlfriend in college. Its like bringing sand to the beach. Dont worry, over time you will forget about her. Just try not to see her or stay friends, it doesnt work.

And go out and fuck some random slores. I do it whenever im down, and it cheers me right up.

man, take her out get her drunk and have a buddie along. have said buddy hit on girlfriend all night long. pretent to be to drunk to notice. make sure she's very drunk. try to basically pass her off to your other friend. now dont make this friend one she detests. look for one of your friends that she has always gotten along with and might just have a small desire to take a little romp in the hay with. or if you have a friend that is THE MAN(and it is confirmable, not just what he says when no one around to disprove it), one who has a different chick swinging from his dick each night, he would be a good choice as well. now she doesnt have to actully have to sleep with said friend, although it would better if she did, but you need to get them at least kissing so that you can feel suffictly outraged and hurt by her *betrayal*. make sure you we acting liek a sufficent jackass as well all night. and maintain the illusion of being drunk so you take no blame for being a dork.

or you could just hit on her best friend while your drunk and try to shag her. having her dump you is way easier.

Manfre,

You need to do the whole "I care too much about you to hold you back from sorting out your problems" thing. You need to make her think you're letting her go so she can sort herself out, or you fear that something may happen that will push her over the edge and you dont want anything bad to happen to her. How you do this is going to be hard, you need to be very clever at making her feel like you're doing it for her own good.

Regardless of this, I actually did dump someone who tried to kill himself because of me leaving.

That was HIS choice, nothing to do with me (as he tried to make me believe), and when he realised that it wasnt going to bring me back, he dealt with it - we haven't spoken since. My last words were something like "next time you want to do this, give me a shout I'll buy the razor blades".

Im not the worlds most sensitive person when it comes to things like this - I think its selfish and pathetic.

She wants to kill herself, thats her business... I can almost guarantee that its not what she wants. Shes depressed because she KNOWS that you dont really want to be with her and this is her way of prolonging the obvious.

"I just broke up with my girlfriend of eight months. Hopefuly someone out there won't make the same mistakes I did. Its not a funny story and really probably not that interesting anyway but here's is my story:"

Translation: My bitch dumped me cause I did some stupid shit.

I didnt read the rest. I wanted to actually read on how to get rid of a girl quick cause Im not sure how. But I wanna get rid of mine. Shes suicidal so no "I just wanted to fuck you its over" cause shed try killing herself. Shes a minic depressive so whenever I decide to drop her its gonna be a sprial roller coaster downhill for her.

Either way I wanna get rid of mine and I was hoping this would help.

Some things are not meant to be... simple as that.

You can let it affect you, eat you up, stop you getting on with your life or you can let it ride. You had some good times, but now its time to move onto the next set of good times.

You're looking back through rose tinted glasses, remembering all the good bits - you're forgetting what made you think you wanted to see other chicks and party. You're doing the classic wanting what you cant have.

You never know - it might all come good in the end. Being with this new guy might not compare to being with you... but you did give her the ultimate insult - "I want to see other people".

Still - you look like a nice looking guy, you're not going to find it hard to pull... and if you feel like it, you could go for the come back shags (as suggested below).

I say be nice to her - she was your friend... and when it all falls apart with this dick thats with her now - you can be there to pick up the peices (*nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*)... although I reckon that you'll be over it by then, and when you get what you want - you'll wonder why you wanted it.

Good on you for trying to talk to someone, even if some people will point and laugh at the mess you've made. Don't bottle things up, or you'll eventually go nuts.
I too am dealing with nearly the same situation right now, only the actual events are several months in the past.
Your best bet is to erase every trace of her from your life for the time being. Pack it all away in a box. Then take up something that burns time. Learn to play an instrument. learn to program. Get involved in a really long game. Anything. All of the above.

Man that's tough, similar thing hapened to me this summer, but when I spoke to my girlfriend about it we decided to stay together so I suppose mine has a happier ending than yours. It turns out that the girl who was tempting me away from my g/f has started acting like a real cunt lately, I got lucky I suppose.

This is a good comeback for anyone who ever gets rejected by a girl, this conversation takes place after rejection:

You: "Hey baby, would you eat a tuft of grass?"
Her: "What, NO....."
You: "Whoa, I don't know many cows who wouldn't eat a tuft of grass"

Don't waste your time wanting her back. I went through the same thing; every day hoping her new relationship would fall through and i could get back with her. That was only a 6 or 7 month relationship but that bitch took my cherry with her, only to go and take some 17-year old's after me, and then some 34 year old. What a freak. Now she's a single mother living in an apartment with her mom. Me? I've got the most amazing g/f in the world. Tall blonde, with long hair and nice curves. Totally gorgeous.
So the moral of the story is: The faster you realize the bitch you think you're in love with, and think about all the time, is a bitch, a slut and/or a not good enough for you, the faster you will realize that there is more than one blonde-haired girl with glasses in the world. (and by the way man, she's not that cute anyway.)

It happens. We all have more than one girlfriend/boyfriend, and that entails breaking up with them, for the most part. In the same breath, I don't care. I don't come on here every day looking for some poor shmuck's sob story.

It sucks what happened... you should've realized that before you fucked around and destroyed the relationship.

Now, go get drunk, fuck a random chick, and get on with your life.

well, congragulations....you fucked up.

You can hope and pray this relationship doesn't work, but it probably will and you'll be stuck wackin off for the next few months until you move on to a relationship that won't be near as close to what you had with her. So for the rest of your life you'll be kicking yourself.

Good job

But hey, what do I know...i'm drunk.
