What are everyone's favorite song lyrics? I'm not talking favorite song or favorite band, but the words alone-- what makes them your favorite and why?
I think mine are the lyrics to "Stairway to Heaven." I like how no one actually knows what they mean, and that each metaphor, each symbol, is up to personal interpretation by the listener. That, and Led Zeppelin rocks.
"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In the tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter.
And it makes me wonder.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen.
Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
Your head is humming and it won't go in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him.
Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow? And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.

Third Eye - Tool
Boots of Spanish Leather - Bob Dylan
High Hopes - Pink Floyd
Wednesday Morning 3AM - Simon & Garfunkel
Stay Loose - Belle & Sebastian
Stay Loose
I was choking on a cornflake
You said "Have some toast instead"
I was sleeping maybe three hours
You said "You should get to bed"
I was waiting at the church door
For the minister to show
I was looking at the new year
You said "Walk before you crawl"
I was feeling like a loser
You said "Hey, you've still got me"
I was feeling pretty lonely
You said "You wanted to be free"
I was looking for a good time
You said "Let the good times start"
With a quiver of your eyelid
You took on someone else's part
Maybe I'm a little greedy
You said "Think before you speak"
Sometimes I'm a little seedy
You said "Everyone is weak"
Now I feel a little better
Is there something I can do?
But I never heard the answer
I never had a clue
But what about me
I don't really see
How things will improve
If all you want is to stay loose
There's a little echo calling
Like a miner trapped inside
If I tell her of this moment
She will in me doubts confide
And she's on me like a blanket
Like a stalk of wilting grass
I'm not sure about her motives
I'm not sure about her past
But my faith is like a bullet
My belief is like a bolt
The only thing that lets me sleep at night
A little carriage of the soul
If it starts a little bleaker
Then the year may yet be gold
Happiness is not for keeping
Happiness is not my goal
But what about me
I don't really see
How things will improve
If all you want is to stay loose
But what about them
You play mother hen
To a gaggle of gangling youth
All you want is to stay loose
I was living through the seconds
My composure was a mess
I was miles from tenderness
It was dark outside, the day it was lying in pieces
Everything is flat and dreary
I couldn't care what's in the news
Television is the blues
Television is hysterical laughter of people
And I know it could be me
I'm always asking for more
I keep running round in circles
I keep looking for a doorway
I'm going to need two lives
To follow the paths I've been taking

HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - SOFT VERGES
So I'm walking down the road and heading towards me
is somebody I know - but not like a brother.
He's seen me and we've both realised
that we're going to have to put into operation
the tricky maneuvre that is....
acknowledgement without breaking stride.
So I keep my eyes fixed firmly on the ground
'til I get within ten or so feet away,
With a nod of the head and a timely "hello",
I can carry on walking - don't wanna get talking,
rule number one: carry on walking
and anyway, I don't know his name.
...and if I were to guess,
I'd guess it all wrong and I'd be there for a long time...
How's it going? Where you living?
Do you still see much of Steve?
Are you married? Are you working?
Do you still drink in the Swan?
Inside backpage, Radio Times,
my kind of day with the actors and actresses.
I get up about 6, have a cold shower,
switch on "Today"...vitamin C,
write some letters 'til quarter past three
when Olivia takes Oliver to school.
It's about an hours drive to Shepperton from ours
so I go through the scripts in the back of the car.
...and if I get hungry I'll eat a Multi-Grain bar.
Weekends are good,
we can walk the South Downs as a family.
But of course, what most people never realise,
is that us poor actors are out of work
for ninety percent of the time.
Yes of course, I must have missed you
at the Job Club yesterday.
Maybe you were signing on
or finding out about free school meals.
Gary doesn't live....here anymore.
Gary doesn't live....here anymore.
Gary doesn't live....here anymore,
Gary took a dive....from the second floor.

From Aretha Franklin's 'I never Loved a Man the way I love you', a song called 'respect':
'Your kisses
Sweeter than honey
And guess what?
So is my money'
I really have to get back to work now.

Fuck I've got a lot of work to do this morning, but I'm tortured now.
How about, gulp, Bob Dylan, an album I picked up a couple of days ago named 'blood on the tracks', with the following lines from 'Tangled up in blue':
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

Jeez, anything by the Smiths ... off thetop of my head:
"Oh the streets are filled with things
eager to be held"
"Let me get my hands
on your
Mammary glands"
-Handsome Devil
Glad to seee the mighty Led Zep has already had a look in .. may I add, from The Lemon Song
""Babe won't you squeeze my lemon
till the juice runs down my leg"
or from "In my time of dying"
"oh Gabriel,
Let me blow your horn"
and let me think of something other than sex ... um, let's see, how about ... yes let me dedicate this next one to all those of you people who cherished a band thu your formative years, then turned your backs when you didn't need them anymore ... you know who you are ...
"But don't forget the songs that made you cry
and the songs that saved your life
but you're older now and you're a clever swine
but they were the only ones that ever stood by you"

"So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from hell"
That line always sends shivers down my spine. Pink Floyd is brilliant.
"People will always do drugs, let's legalize 'em
Crime drops when the mob can't price 'em
Budget's in the red? Let's tax religion!"
Dead Kennedys - Stars and Stripes of Corruption
"And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make"
Beatles - The End
"A scarlet sunset
the threshold to nightplay
A sinful oath is to be sworn
A beckoning bloodlust
Among the seekers
Tyrannic hunger yearns
A gathering in flames and fires
Devil's daughters dance
Scourged in filth; obscene and lewd
Longing for dark desires
The nocturnal beast appears
in an evil despotic shape
Expectant, watching gracelessly
before demanding the sluts of lust
(The Beast:)
"Come forth harlots, let's begin!"
(The Beast approaches:)
"Rise and give praise in front of Me
and receive eternal life from Me!
Welcome my spirit in honor of Me!
So drink the blood I shall provide you
and you shall all forever wander in
the shadows of death!"
(The chanting Whores:)
"Oh yes, Master, let us receive
Thine offer and drink with thee
and become a part of thy realm
with lust, sex and sodomy,
for we are those who seek life eternally"
(The Beast:)
"Blood is Life, and It shall be all ours!""
Dimmu Borgir - The Night Masquerade
"Nature's own artful methodology
Where downfall becomes the interlude
Laws, which base our current cosmology
Completing the constant vicissitude
From storm-beaten mountains to calm-running rivers
As old as the planet's rotation
A work of unknown intellect delivers
The symbiosis, the perfect combination"
Borknagar - Four Element Synchronicity
And of course, what lyric list would be complete without overt anti-christianity?

Union Underground - Natural High, not sure what the song is about, but the lyrics are great and I use them on Messenger all the time
Times I'm uncertain I can't unwind
The shit we learned became a lie
Can't live forever angry and blind
The lengths we go to satisfy
It's a natural high
I'm not your savior no fuckin' lie
I'd kill myself to stay alive
Forget the future regret the past
No present tense is gonna last
Swimming in a sea of a jealous tide
Won't wash your hate away
Selling your soul for a piece of mind
Can't buy yourself today
Ain't it funny how the power the money
The consistency of the truth
Bleed today but laugh tomorrow
In the burden of our youth

Here are some John Mayer lyrics that are good,
"Why did you mess with forever"
You asked to kiss me once goodbye, but you already did on somebody elses lips
"Sucker"
Sometimes I wish that I was a cold beer, I'd rest assure that you would hold me near and I could guarantee to be just what you need
"Tell me what to say" (This song is about an insecure guy at a bar who wants to be with a girl but realizes she is out of his league)
When you were young and playing princess in your mother's dress, into the mirror dreaming what your prince would say, I know you still remember it to this day, so would you tell me what to say?
Damien Rice and David Grey are also excellent lyricists.

Grandaddy has some great lyrics. That being said:
"Our domain, this kingdom come
now godless lands whose ways are lost.
Without the strength to carry on.
All values lost, all virtue none.
Did you think that you'd be saved
by burning flags to cleanse yourselves of shame?
Or are you afraid, are you afraid
as you stare back at your face?
Or are you ashamed, are you afraid
by destroying what the gods have made?
Do you think that you'll be saved?
Do you think that you'll be saved?
And I believe that we'll conceive
to make in hell for us a heaven.
A brave new world.
A promised land.
A fortitude of hearts and minds.
Until I see this kingdom's mine,
I'll turn the darkness into light.
I'll guide the blind.
My will be done until the day
I see our kingdom has been won.
No more the servants of the weak
devoid of thought or light to seek.
I'll leave no walls, no stone unturned.
Every tower must be razed to the dust from which it came.
And none will be spared, no remnant saved.
And are you ashamed, are you afraid, of the gods and idols that you have made?
Do you think you'll be saved by the gods and idols that you have made?
None will be saved.
None will be saved."

Nina Simone - Feeling Good
Birds flyin' high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by you know how I feel
Its a new dawn, its a new day, its a new life for me
yeah, its a new dawn its a new day its a new life for me ooooooooh
AND I'M FEELING GOOD
Fish in the sea, you know how I feel
River runnin' free you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree you know how I feel
Its a new dawn, its a new day, its a new life for me
And I'm feelin good
Dragonfly out in the sun you know what i mean dont you know
Butterflies all havin' fun you know what I mean
Sleepin' peace when day is done that's what I mean
And this old world is a new world and a bold world for me
Stars when you shine you know how I feel
Scent of the crime you know how I feel
Your freedom is mine, and I know how I feel
Its a new dawn, its a new day, its a new life for me
OH I'M FEELING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

As soon as I saw the subject, I was going to say "Stairway To Heaven". You beat me to it.
I didn't want to tamper with my own opinion, so I haven't actually read any of the replies to this. Anyway, a random list of some of my other favorite song lyrics:
"I'd sacrifice anything come what might for the sake of having you near.
In spite of the warning voice that comes in the night that repeats, repeats in my ear:
'Don't you know you fool, you never can win. Use your mentality - wake up to reality.'
And each time I do, just the thought of you makes me stop before I begin
'cause I've got you under my skin."
- Frank Sinatra - "I've Got You Under My Skin"
"How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
swimming in a fish bowl
year after year.
Runnin over the same old ground,
and we found
the same old fears,
wish you were here."
- Pink Floyd - "Wish You Were Here"
"Stickshifts and safety belts, bucket seats have all got to go
when we're driving in the car it makes my baby seem so far.
I need you here with me, not way over in a bucket seat.
I need you to be next to me, not way over in a bucket seat.
But when we're driving in my Malibu, it's easy to get right next to you.
I say, "Baby, scoot over please" and then she's right there next to me.
I need you here with me, not way over in a bucket seat.
I need you to be here with me, not way over in a bucket seat.
Yeah a lot of good cars are Japanese,
but when we're driving far, I need my baby, need my baby, next to me."
- Cake - "Stickshifts and Safetybelts"
"So your girlfriend rolls a Honda, playin workout tapes by Fonda.
Well, Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda.
My anacond don't want none unless you've got buns hun.
You can do side bends and situps, but please don't lose that but."
- Sir Mix-A-Lot - "Baby Got Back"
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a sun
in somebody else's sky. Why? Why? Why can't it be, can't it be mine?"
- Pearl Jam - "Black"
"What a difference a day makes. Twenty four little hours.
Brought the sun and the flowers mmm where there used to be rain.
My yesterday was blue dear. Today I'm a part of you dear.
My lonely nights are through dear. Since you said you were mine."
- Dinah Washington - "What A Difference A Day Makes"
"Have you been half asleep, and have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors? The voice might be one in the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it. It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers, and me."
- Kermit the Frog - "Rainbow Connection"

Holy fuck, I ought to flood this post with -2's for not only saying Stairway's lyrics are the best (and also implying that it is even a half-decent song), but the fact that people "don't know what they mean." IT'S ABOUT A PERSON BUYING AND USING DRUGS, YOU IDIOT!! People argue about these random lyrics like they were written by a fucking genius. No, they were written by a stoner who screamed a lot. People like to believe their lives have more purpose so they choose Stairway to Heaven to analize to death. Not only that, but the song is absolutely awful. And the next person who tells me "it's a technical song" gets a fucking foot up their ass because they know eprfectly well that that's a bullshit excuse for a God-awful song.
Sometimes I expect to wake up and find out that the Zeppelin Ass-Kisser Fan Club that constitutes 99% of the world is nothing but a joke to annoy me. Ha ha. Go kill yourselves.
************************
First off, I don't think it's about a person buying drugs, but it is indeed, as i said, open to interpretation. Secondly, they were written by not only one genius, but two. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant are two of the greatest gods of rock and roll. No one, I repeat, no one is able to play the guitar how Page did and innovate new things the way he did. As for being part of the Ass-Kisser Fan Club, exactly whose ass am I kissing? Plants? Pages? The rest of the bands? I don't think so. There is no ass to kiss. There is just a fantastic song to listen to and appreciate. I would love to listen to a song you could come up with. It would provide me with a good laugh at your own mediocrity.

Jan lays down and wrestles in her sleep
Moonlight spills on comic books
And superstars in magazines
An old friend calls and tells us where to meet
Her plane takes off from Baltimore
And touches down on Bourbon street
We sit outside and argue all night long
About a god we've never seen
But never fails to side with me
Sunday comes and all the papers say
Ma Teresa's joined the mob
And happy with her full time job
Am I alive for thoughts that drift away?
Does summer come for everyone?
Can humans do what prophets say?
If I die before I learn to speak
Can money pay for all the days I lived awake
But half asleep?
A life is time, they teach you growing up
The seconds ticking killed us all
A million years before the fall
You ride the waves and don't ask where they go
You swim like lions through the crest
And bathe yourself in zebra flesh
I've been downhearted baby
I've been downhearted baby
I've been downhearted baby
Ever since the day we met
Ever since the day we met
Ever since the day we met
I've been downhearted baby
Ever since the day we met

Reinventing Axl Rose by Against Me!
We want a band that plays loud and hard every night
That doesn't care how many people are counted at the door
That would travel one million miles and ask for nothing more than a plate of food and a place to rest
They'd strike chords that cut like a knife
It would mean so much more than t-shirts or a ticket stub
They'd stop at nothing short of a massacre
Everyone would leave with the memory that there was no place else in the world
And this was where they always belonged
We would dance like no one was watching
With one fist in the air
Our arena just basements and bookstores across an underground America
With this fire we could light
Just gimme a scene where the music is free
And the beer is not the life of the party
There's no need to shit talk or impress
'Cause honesty and emotion are not looked down upon
And every promise that's made and bragged
is meant if not kept
We'd do it all because we have to, not because we know why
Beyond a gender, race, and class, we could find what really holds us back
Let's make everybody sing
That they are the beginning and ending of everything
That we all are stronger than everything they taught us that we should fear

It's time to let the bedbugs bite
You better put all your eggs in one basket
You better count your chickens before they hatch
You better sell some wine before it's/its time
You better find yourself an itch to scratch
You better squeeze all the Charmin you can while Mr. Wimpole's not around
Stick your head in the microwave and get yourself a tan
Talk with your mouth full
Bite the hand that feeds you
Bite on more than you chew
What can you do
Dare to be stupid
Take some wooden nickles
Look for Mr. Goodbar
Get your mojo working now
I'll show you how
You can dare to be stupid
You can turn the other cheek
You can just give up the ship
You can eat a bunch of sushi and forget to leave a tip
Dare to be stupid
Come on and dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you
Let's go
It's time to make a mountain out of a molehill
So can I have a volunteer
There's no more time for crying over spilled milk
Now it's time for crying in your beer
Settle down, raise a family, join the PTA
Buy some sensible shoes and a Chevyrolet
And party 'till you're broke and they drive you away
It's OK, you can dare to be stupid
It's like spitting on a fish
It's like barking up a tree
It's like I said you gotta buy one if you wanna get one free
Dare to be stupid (yes)
Why don't you dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you
Dare to be stupid
Burn your candle at both ends
Look a gift horse in the mouth
Mashed potatoes can be your friends
You can be a coffee achiever
You can sit around the house and watch Leave It To Beaver
The future's up to you
So what you gonna do
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
What did I say
Dare to be stupid
Tell me, what did I say
Dare to be stupid
It's alright
Dare to be stupid
We can be stupid all night
Dare to be stupid
Come on, join the crowd
Dare to be stupid
Shout it out loud
Dare to be stupid
I can't hear you
Dare to be stupid
OK, I can hear you now
Dare to be stupid
Let's go, Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Angel and The Gambler
Roll of the dice
Take a spin of the wheel
Out of your hands now
So how do you feel
But you're not gonna win
You'd better go back again
Do you feel lucky
Or do you feel scared
Take what luck brings
And be Devil may care
But you're down on your luck
what will the next day bring
Adrift on the ocean
Afloat in a daydream
Or lost in a maze
Or blind in the haze
So what does it matter
So why don't you answer
So why did you send
An angel to mend
Best make decisions
Before it's too late
Take all your chances
Take hold of the reins
A roll of the dice
Ahead of the game again
Nothing to lose
But so much to gain
A little danger
It goes without saying
But what do you care
You're gonna go in the end
Gate open to heaven
Is ready and waytnig
Or straight down to hell
Can go there as well
I'll suffer my craving
My soul's not worth saving
Sowhy don't you go
Just leave well alone
Don't you think i'm a savior
Don't you think i could save you
Don't you think i could save your life
There's like a hunger
That knocks on your door
You've had a taste of it
Still you want more
You've made your mistakes
Won't play it the same again
You have been warned
But still you plunge in
You play high stakes
But there's nothing to win
You've only one life
And so many things to learn
The Angel on one side
The Devil the other
Which path do you take
Decisions to make
Arrive at the crossroads
You know where you're going
And what if you wait
It may be too late
I Can
May I take you higher
Feed well your desire
We won't be forgotten
Foes left slain and rotten
I will have my way
as once before
Others stand in awe
can't scorn at all
I can, I can, I can
make it all again
I don't wanna lose
I don't wanna get drowned
I can, I can I can
heed the call again
Fulfill my dreams until I'm cured
Some will leave here shattred
Wish us tarred and feathered
Show me anyone who doubts our ways
I will laught out loud and I will say
I can, I can, I can
make it all again
I don't wanna lose
I don't wanna get drowned
I can, I can I can
make the call again
Can attain ev'rything to leave you sure
I can
I can, I can, I can
make it all again
I don't wanna lose
I don't wanna get drowned
I can, I can I can
heed the call again
Fulfill my dreams until I'm cured

Actually, if y'all listened to Bright Eyes...you would find some very emotional and meaningful lyrics. And they're open to so many different interpretations. Anything from the album "Fevers and Mirrors" is great. Just an idea for everyone since I'm DLing these "best songs." Peace.

I'm a big Bad Religion fan, and one of my favorite songs by Bad Religion is called, "No Direction"
A sullen figure walks along a dusty road
his life was holy and he couldn't bear the load
he left his people and a simple life behind
he raised his torso and he looked into the sky
shouting his questions
looking for directions
"what do I do now?"
now a confused school girl stares at the TV tray
the stresses of maturing compound every day
she glances up to see her favorite video
and gets ideas from Madonna's nasty clothes
in need of affection
she craves affection
her heroes offer her
everyone is looking for something
and they assume somebody else knows what it is
no one can live with the decisions of their own it seems
so they look to someone else
to tell 'em what to be
tell 'em what to wear
tell 'em what to say
tell 'em how to act and think and compel others compulsively
until the world is all like them
a righteous student came and asked me to reflect
he judged my lifestyle was politically incorrect
I don't belive in self important folks who preach
no Bad Religion song can make your life complete
you'll get no direction from me
you'll get no direction from me
It's about finding your own way, not letting someone choose it for you. It's a song of self-reliancy, telling yourself that you don't need others in every situation, because in the end, you're the only one that'll be with yourself at the end of your failures.

Maybe you thought 99 Luftballoons sucked...because you don't understand the german lyrics. Make some friends overseas and you'll get to know what it means to them. I really don't want to even get into saying that this post is going to turn into a big ass argument, since people's tastes are so varied. But at least I listed a song that wasn't played on American radio (yes I know, 99 Red Balloons was played on Ami Radio, but not the German version), and I think it just goes to show how commercialized we have all become. I really don't see how Falco's Rock me Amadeus was a good song at all. It's only talking about how Mozart was the 1st 'punk', that he was loved by everyone and very popular....it just doesn't ring true to the "best song lyrics of all time." Unless of course, you're a Mozart freak. To each his own, I guess.

"the red" by Chevelle
They say freak
When you're singled out
The red
Well, it filters through
So lay down
The threat is real
When his sight
Goes red again
Seeing red again
Seeing red again
This change
He won't contain
Slip away
To clear your mind
When asked
What made it show?
The truth
He gives into most
PS: 99 red balloons is about a post-apocalyptic world that was caused when a german officer mistook a red balloon as a nuclear missle

Denkst Du vielleicht grad' an mich?

Und daß sowas von sowas kommt
99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Hielt man für UFOs aus dem All
Darum schickte ein General
'ne Fliegerstaffel hinterher
Alarm zu geben, wenn's so wär
Dabei war'n da am Horizont
Nur 99 Luftballons
99 Düsenjäger
Jeder war ein großer Krieger
Hielten sich für Captain Kirk
Das gab ein großes Feuerwerk
Die Nachbarn haben nichts gerafft
Und fühlten sich gleich angemacht
Dabei schoß man am Horizont
Auf 99 Luftballons
99 Kriegsminister
Streichholz und Benzinkanister
Hielten sich für schlaue Leute
Witterten schon fette Beute'
Riefen: Krieg und wollten Macht
Mann, wer hätte das gedacht
Daß es einmal soweit kommt
Wegen 99 Luftballons
99 Jahre Krieg
Ließen keinen Platz für Sieger
Kriegsminister gibt's nicht mehr
Und auch keine Düsenflieger
Heute zieh ich meine Runden
Seh' die Welt in Trümmern liegen
Hab' 'nen Luftballon gefunden

The other is this:
It's Too Late
Jim Carroll Band
It's too late
To fall in love with Sharon Tate
But it's too soon
To ask me for the words I want carved on my tomb
So I think it's time that you all start
To think about gettin' by
But what about that need to go out and find somebody to love
It's too late
There's no one left that I even wanna imitate
You see, you just don't know
I'm here to give you my heart
And you want some fashion show
But it ain't no contribution
To go and rely on an institution
To validate your chosen art
And sanction your boredom
And let you play out your part
It's too late
You know when they got nothin' to give
They only part their legs for what's negative
And they're so decadent . . .
Until their daddy's money from home's all spent
So I think it's time, 'cuz it's too easy
To rely on worshipping strangers and devils in bed,
Though they do get good drugs, and they do give good head
It's too late
You shoulda realized I was worth the wait
Ah, but you didn't hesitate
When she took you off, you let her seal our fate
So I think it's time
that you all start
To think about gettin' by
Without that need to go out and find
Somebody to love

Sure, I'm game.
"The Best of What's Around," the first DMB I ever heard.
Hey, my friend
It seems your eyes are troubled
Care to share your time with me
Would you say you're feeling low and so
A good idea would be to get it off of your mind
See, you and me
Have a better time than most can dream
Have it better than the best
And so can pull on through
Whatever tears at us
Whatever holds us down
And if nothing can be done
We'll make the Best of What's Around
Turns out not where but who you're with
That really matters
That really matters
And hurts not much when you're around
When you're around
And if you hold on tight
To what you think is your thing
You may find you're missing all the rest
She ran up into the light surprised
Her arms are open
Her mind's eye is...
Seeing things from a
Better side than most can dream
On a better road I feel
So you could say she's safe
Whatever tears at her
Whatever holds her down
And if nothing can be done
She'll make the best of what's around
Turns out not where but what you think
That really matters
That really matters
That really matters
And hurts not much when you're around

Maynard Keenan is my favorite writer, I think. I can't choose one song, but Eulogy is fucking great soo...
He had alot to say.
He had alot of nothing to say.
We'll miss him. (2x)
We're gonna miss him (2x)
So long.
We wish you well.
You told us how you weren't afraid to die.
Well then, so long.
Don't cry.
Or feel too down.
Not all martyrs see divinity.
But at least you tried.
Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud.
We'll miss him. (2x)
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart.
We'll miss him. (2x)
We're gonna miss him (2x)
No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all.
But it was so loud.
You sure could yell.
You took a stand on every little thing
And so loud.
Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice so strong and loud and I
Swallowed his facade cuz I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, with
Someone who would die for me.
Will you?
Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you fuckin' lie.
Don't you step out of line. (3x)
Don't you fuckin' lie.
You've claimed all this time that you would die for me.
Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?
You had alot to say.
You had alot of nothing to say.
Come down.
Get off your fuckin cross.
We need the fuckin' space to nail the next fool martyr.
To ascend you must die.
You must be crucified
For your sins and your lies. [sic]
Goodbye...

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my open mind,
Possessing and caressing me.
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes,
That call me on and on across the universe,
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they
Tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Sounds of laughter shades of earth are ringing
Through my open views inviting and inciting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a
Million suns, it calls me on and on
Across the universe
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world.

"Powerman 5000"
"Free"
EVERYBODY NEEDS TO START THEIR OWN FIRE, EVERYBODY NEEDS A RIOT OF THEIR OWN, EVERYBODY NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING THAT THEYRE NOT, EVERYBODY NEEDS TO GO IT ALONE.
Just the one line in paticular--- people today need to "go it alone". Stop with the excessive fads, and pop trends, and all that crap. make a scene, break shit. cause problems for the local law enforcement. well- maybe not that extreme.
LIVING SO FREE IS A TRADGEY, WHEN YOU CANT BE WHAT YOU NEED TO BE. LIVING SO FREE IS A TRADGEY, WHEN YOU CANT SEE WHAT YOU NEED TO SEE.
most people today dont understand the world around them- not even in a scientific sense- just real world cognative thinking (excuse the simpsons reference) homer doesent exactly "get" whats happening around him. He's unaware for the most part. Lisa however is almost too aware. But people like that are rare at best.
ALL THE TIME SPENT HANGING ON TO ANYTHING, ALL THE TIME SPENT KNOWING THAT THEY'RE WRONG, ALL THE TIME WASTED, STOLEN BACK, INNOCENT, YOU WONT GET A SECOND MORE SO MOVE IT ALONG.
WISHING AND HOPEING AND THINKING IT'S YOU, THATS GOT THIS ALL UNDER CONTROL, NEVER A MINUTE HAS PASSED YOU BY, WHEN THEY HAVEN'T INVADED YOUR SOUL.
it's always the man keeping us down. You know, the man!! damnit!!
ITS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN HOLD, IT'S NOT SOMETHING YOU OWN. IT'S NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN BUY OR STEAL, YOU'VE GOT IT WHEN YOURE ALONE
well, i dont care about the rest of the lyrics. the music rocks, and thats good enough for me.

You walk into the room
With your pencil in your hand
You see somebody naked
And you say, "Who is that man?"
You try so hard
But you don't understand
Just what you'll say
When you get home
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
You raise up your head
And you ask, "Is this where it is?"
And somebody points to you and says
"It's his"
And you say, "What's mine?"
And somebody else says, "Where what is?"
And you say, "Oh my God
Am I here all alone?"
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
You hand in your ticket
And you go watch the geek
Who immediately walks up to you
When he hears you speak
And says, "How does it feel
To be such a freak?"
And you say, "Impossible"
As he hands you a bone
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
You have many contacts
Among the lumberjacks
To get you facts
When someone attacks your imagination
But nobody has any respect
Anyway they already expect you
To just give a check
To tax-deductible charity organizations
You've been with the professors
And they've all liked your looks
With great lawyers you have
Discussed lepers and crooks
You've been through all of
F. Scott Fitzgerald's books
You're very well read
It's well known
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you
And then he kneels
He crosses himself
And then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice
He asks you how it feels
And he says, "Here is your throat back
Thanks for the loan"
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
Now you see this one-eyed midget
Shouting the word "NOW"
And you say, "For what reason?"
And he says, "How?"
And you say, "What does this mean?"
And he screams back, "You're a cow
Give me some milk
Or else go home"
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?
Well, you walk into the room
Like a camel and then you frown
You put your eyes in your pocket
And your nose on the ground
There ought to be a law
Against you comin' around
You should be made
To wear earphones
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

Dear Diary
(Britney Spears)
Dear diary
Today I saw a boy
And I wondered if he noticed me
He took my breath away
Dear diary
I can't get him off my mind
And it scares me
'Cause I've never felt this way
No one in this world
Knows me better than you do
So diary I'll confide in you
Dear diary
Today I saw a boy
As he walked by I thought he smiled at me
And I wondered
Does he know what's in my heart
I tried to smile, but I could hardly breathe
Should I tell him how I feel
Or would that scare him away
Diary, tell me what to do
Please tell me what to say
Dear diary
One touch of his hand
Now I can't wait to see that boy again
He smiled
And I thought my heart could fly
Diary, do you think that we'll be more than friends?
I've got a feeling we'll be so much more than friends!
------------------
These are my favorite lyrics, because they speak to my heart. They're kind of deep, you know? But like I can totally get what she's talking about. I don't understand why people talk so much shit about her. You can tell from her lyrics that she's really smart, so fuck off. Britney Spears 4EVR.

I love the Goldfinger cover of 99 red balloons, saw them play it on Saturday!
Anyway, my favourites:
"You know it's up to you. You always have an option
to choose what you wanna do, take control or run and hide.
It's OK to take a fall, if you have good intentions.
As long as you give it all, you´ll feel good inside.
I know it's all in you, just gotta find out what you wanna do.
I know it's all in you and deep inside you feel it too.
I know it's all in you, the common sense, splendid point of view.
I know it's all in you, all your dreams they can come true."
'Pepper' by Millencolin
I also like:
"Afraid it comes to this
I really must admit, your tits, your eyes, your lips
Are staring at me
I'm drooling at the chin
I need to be within, her skin, I want to sin
She stops me and she says
Slow down boy, I'm not easy
Don't wanna be a sleazy whore
So I showed her to the door
Overabundancy, and I'm not sorry
And girl, you look so good
I really think we should, your hood, with me, I would
So let's get started
I know I can't resist
I reach over for a kiss, I miss, she ducks, I wish
She gets up and she says...
Slow down boy, I'm not easy
Don't wanna be a sleazy whore
So I showed her to the door
Overabundancy, and I'm not sorry
Then there she was in front of me
And it was very plain to see
She had this gleeming in her eye
Told me that she's down for the crime
Took me and threw me on the floor
As she screamed and begged for more
She said
I'm not sorry
No, I'm not sorry"

Nena's 99 Luftballoons.
The best war song ever written, even considering all the CCR. It's about WWII when they used to use hot air balloons to scope shit out. I suggest you listen to the song, and get a good translation of the lyrics, you'll have a new outlook. But the American version that came out in '84 was a total butchering of the German lyrics, so be careful.
