It isn't news to most people that Australians are clearly fond of their drugs, alcohol and fucking. Despite recreation being our core competency, we are better than we were, or so it would seem.
I long for the days of yore, when Coke actually had a good swak of coke in it, and Opium wasn't just a perfume.

Imagine a nation so steeped in drug culture that mothers routinely feed opium to their babies.
Ready-rolled cannabis joints are available over the counter at tobacconists.
Cocaine is freely sold at the chemist, in tonics and even soft drinks.
Doctors regularly prescribe heroin, and protest vehemently at any move to ban it.
You are imagining Australia in the 19th and even early 20th centuries.
As late as the 1930s, Australia had the world's highest legal consumption of narcotics.
Legal cocaine use was double that of the US and Britain, and legal heroin consumption three times that of Britain.
Australians still have a "propensity for pill-popping", she says - about 90,000 people will consume three-quarters of a million ecstasy tablets this year in Sydney alone.

Now how much happier would we all be if we could just pop down to the local pharmacy and say "Rack 'em up, Pablo, I've got a party to attend", or "Give us a nice J will ya, guvnor, the misses needs a re-lax".
Aah yes, I would be.

Hey MOssiah!
You "I haven't tried any drugs" then admit to have been a cigarette smoker and that you can't imagine giving up alcohol. What do you those 2 substances are? vitamins!!! Do you think they are safe because sanctioned by the government? In 1985, more than 40 000 person died because of alcohol alone while 4000 died from the consumption of all the illegal drugs combined. Wake up and smell another drug you are addicted to: coffee!

Yes, yes. Of course vergedor. Everyone knows that cigarettes and alchohol are drugs. You knew what I meant though. Lets not get bogged down with semantics.
Sheesh.
And I don't drink coffee, so I'm not addicted to that. I wasn't trying to get up on any precious pedestal saying I don't take drugs. I don't care if others take them, and whats more I'm jealous of them, and I would like to try them, but I know myself too well and I'm scared of what I'll become. There's no need to get on a high horse and state the obvious about cigarettes, alcohol and coffee.

I haven't actually tried any drugs, but if they were goverment sanctioned, then I might be induced to try something as they would be safer.
Probably still wouldn't. I get addicted to things too easily. It was hell giving up cigarettes, and there's no way I could ever give up alcohol. I know that if I start popping pills then it wouldn't be long before I'd end up injecting some vile substance into my arm.
I think I'll live vicariously through my fellow compatriots.
