i've always liked yidele, but he can be pretty petty and childish sometimes....

anyway, Guapo, i'm starting to stop talking and start listening. i always thought i knew everything, but the longer you stay in the game, the more you find out you'll never EVER know everything there is to know about running a network this big. i've been through nearly every damn cisco course except CCIE. i never took the test for CCNA or CCNP, though i still have the vouchers to take the tests. i should, but i'm lazy. i've taken a hundred damn microsoft courses, too. hell, i just took a new one yesterday. (exchange 2003) i'm so involved, and i do so much, and learn so much, but i'm still no expert, and i've been doing it for awhile. that's why i try not to argue with people about things like this. i've recently realized i'll never be as good as i wish i was. there's just too much involved.

i hear ya dude. i appreciate that you said that actually, and honestly i can't believe i made the mixup (by saying a tracert can be spoofed instead of email headers) that i pointed out aside from the fact that the day i posted that i had been fighting bell south for literally 6 hours because one of their routers dumped it's routing table for one reason or another and was bouncing between itself and it's closest peer. the router in question was the last hop from their network onto fucking sprintlink and they were denying issues. that's the kind of shit i deal with all the time.
well i hope you got your network back up man, i know what a pain in the ass it can be. the other night i changed my internal ip scheme from dynamic to statics, and for some reason forgot to reconfig the router, lol. i was throwing a fit trying all kinds of shit, rebooting machines, forcing 10mbps, 100mbps (the 3com card in one machine refuses to auto-negotiate 100mbps with the crappy netgear in another, so i had to force 100 on both for some reason) until i said fuck it and put in a movie. 15 minutes later it dawned on me and i felt so stupid, i was yelling and stomping out of the room, it was really childish. that's my humbling story to share with you, heheh.
and i really am sorry for the first couple of replies man, last evening was so not good for me mentally. i might get into that later though, once i've dealt with the crap dumped on me the last few days. i am officially on your women suck program, i'm so sick of dealing with them. i'm like at the last thread of hope that i will ever meet one that i can trust, and the last one i ever want to see keeps making me have to deal with her.

DNS, firewall, proxy, and mail relays all took a dump at once while we were trying to do a major overhaul, and i just didn't know what to do... everyone else was running around like chickens with their heads cut off, too, so i don't feel so bad. it sure was a humbling experience.

the last time i talked about ip spoofing, it was in regards to the fucking ip address in an email header. that is apples and fucking oranges to spoofing ip by hacking routers. i could find a fucking open relay server and make my own headers because a wide open smtp server doesn't give a flying fuck who you are or where you come from. and trust me, there's far too many of those out there. there is a fucking reason we block all open relays.

actually, effectively spoofing an ip address in a tcp connection is impossible without compromising at least one router, being on the same briged segment as the host attacked or compromising a dns server.
Posting HTTP requires a tcp connection. When <people who know what the fuck they're talking about - that excludes rj and you> talk about ip spoofing, the genetrally refer to spoofed ddos attacks which overwhelm a server by opening a huge number of sockets OR they're refering to a man-in-the-middle attack, wherein a tcp connection is hijacked or redirected ( this requires compromising a router/firewall) or being in the same segment/broadcast domain as the host attacked.
The problem with spoofing a packet lies not in the ability to do it ( easy enough ) but in usefullness. Even if some juvenile fucktard were to manufacture packets with a faked source address, they'd be of no use to him unless he controlled routing of either ubersite's firewall/access router OR the router which serves the network address he is spoofing. All in all, it is very unlikely that yon fucktard made the effort to crack routers/firewalls just to spam you with regurgitated posts.

Tuesday, it may not be our website in the sense that we created it but it has become ours and yours through contribution. What RJ is doing is not contributing to it and actually taking away from it. It makes our experience less enjoyable, it makes it difficult to sift through responses, it slows shit down. I can take your shameless self promotion on all of my posts because you keep it short. I can breeze by it like it's not there (which I always do) but it's not so easy with this. Some of us have nothing during our work day except uber.
