Im no racist. I think nothing less of the black race. But I truly think if I were black, I'd hate myself. The reason for this is simply the way that blacks are treated in society. A few weeks ago, I was taking a standarized test and one of the options was to bubble in this circle if you were a Black American interested in some scholarship program. If I were black I'd look at this and say how dare they! Martin Luther king made a famous speech about how he dreamed that one day his people would not be judged by the color of their skin. SO why the hell would they assume that because I'm black, that most of my race is a failure and that I need to be supported and that I can't take care of myself.

So what happens if I were black and started working my damndest to suceed, much like most of the asians in my community, well if I were black all of my black friends and relatives would resent me and right me off as "Acting White".

WHAT THE HELL IS "ACTING WHITE". If I were to make any effort to succeed and be educated in this society then I should be kicked out of a community that the entire black race has grown to be dependant on?

Its time members of this black community come to realize that social isolation is not the key to success. You can't be dependant on these leaders that work hard to help you but by doing so, further isolate you. There is still racism out there I'll admit that, but the fact is that almost every Indian family I know is much more successful than mine.

By creating scholarship programs directed to black americans only, not only are you adding bricks to the wall of poverty, you are keeping others in need of that money away because of the color of their skin.

I have a dream that someday men will be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the blisters on their hands.

after reading what you said the main point against my article seems to be that they need the money to escape poverty. I feel everybody should be given a completely equal chance to suceed in a racially blind society. I do not feel scholarship funds should be taken away from black people, just be made available to everybody. If that fund had said something like, "if your annual income is lower than ... and are interested in the ... scholarship fund then bubble here". That way the funds are still available to them and anybody else that has worked hard and needed them.

Please, whatever you do, don't say "'Sup my nigger?"
If you replaced nigger with nigga, you may only get crazy looks instead of a beating.

I agree with Illicit_Joe, I have often said that the only way that racism, prejudice and bigotry will ever be non exsistant, is if everyone were exactly the same. This comes off as sounding racist, but hear me out.

No matter what, there will always be people that are envious of others for what they have (a better car, house, more money, etc.). There will always be people that are stuck up on their own superiority, and feel the need to put others down to validate themselves. Race is far too easy for hate mongers to resist. People will always see someone else getting more and think that they should get the same treatment because they do the same job, as well or better.

At the time Affirmative Action was made, it was a good idea. There was jobs being lost to minorities based on their race. It still happens today, maybe not as openly as it was then, but it's still there.

The problem with the system now is that it's being abused, like welfare. Minorities have used Affirmative Action to scare employers into giving them jobs. In a perfect world, jobs would always go to the most qualified individual. However, this isn't going to happen until EVERY employer can look past race, and minorities can quit using their race as a cop out as to why they lost out in an interview. Neither of these two are going to happen. There will always be employers out there that will be ditrustful of a black person, and there will always be black people that will sue if they don't get a job that a white person beat them for, even if whitey was more qualified. While these two types are the few bad apples, they still ruin the system.

Bottom line is race will always play a key in everything, as long as there are minorities. We should be able to look past that, but it's not going to happen, let's be real here.

Shut the fuck up. You think this hasn't been brought up a million times already? The only way we will stop thinking of people as differant is when we all speak the same language, have the same job, drive the same car and live in the same kind of house. It's not going to happen, people are differant. It just happens that studies show most blacks are assholes who can't keep a job because they are addicited to some sort of drug.

There are good points here and bad points here. I agree the affirmative action isnt as good as it could be made, I've personally felt it, I almost made it into West Point this past year, but was off by like ten slots. I probably would have made it had it not been for AA, and now I'm spending an extra year at a prep school while someone with lower qualifications is in my place. I think that it should change the system so that race is just omited from questionairs and such, that way everyone would have a more equal chance.

I agree with Acarnis. Some of the things you said really pissed me off. Although I'm kind of on the fence with the affirmative action subject, (yeah, that's what you're on about, research before you bitch) most of what you said was bullshit. The one thing that annoyed me the most was when you said that if a black person works hard to get somewhere in life, they are resented by their family and community. That is pure bullshit. You, my boy, watch too many movies and don't spend enough time in the real world. I have a highly diverse group of friends, a good 30-40% of them being black, and NEVER would the people close to them resent them for suceeding. Rather, their families and REAL friends support them, and are very proud of them for triumphing over obstacles.

The scholarship you mentioned, I think, would make most african american people happy. Most of society will deny this, but even now, our country reeks of racism. A lot of college admissions boards, homeowners association leaders, landlords, and employers frequently, whether consiously or subconciously, favor whites. (White men, even moreso, but that's a whole new subject for me to get pissed off about.) Affirmative action helps non-whites (black people aren't the only ones affected by this, also another rant altogether) overcome the obstacles placed in their way by our society. And fuck you for thinking they shouldn't have it.

Marge, there's just too much pressure, what with my job, the kids, traffic
snarls, political strife at home and abroad. But I promise you, the second
all of those things go away, we'll have sex.
