Who really gives a shit about politics? Nobody. The American citizens have become complacent and apathetic with regards to their own political system, and for good reason!
When you read your history books, there's never any mention of whether Julius Caesar introduced a tax cut or started a special program to benefit the impoverished lepers. Instead, the books mention the wars, the monuments, the technological and sociological advancements. Most of all though, the books create glorified images. The books create the stoic image of Caesar wearing his crown, or of Washington crossing the Delaware. They create glorified images of Christopher Columbus, Socrates, and Jesus Christ.
They create heros.
America is the richest country on earth with fast cars, faster women, and all the guns, drugs, and rock 'n roll that anyone could ask for. What America desperately lacks is a hero.
While sitting in my dark basement bedroom lit only by the glow of my monitor, I realized that this week's presidential election was rigged from the beginning. Al Gore has been painted as the victim of domestic abuse from Clinton. He has faced adversity and has overcome it. George W Bush (dubya) on the other hand, is the son of a former president, a coke addict, a drunk driver, and a mass murderer.
Obviously, no person in their right mind would vote for a guy whose catch phrase is "no fuzzy math", so the only other possibility is what the Italians like to refer to as "The Fix". The average apathetic American voter hates the other 250 million Americans, and therefore would have no problem believing that the country would elect a coke addicted mass murderer to our highest office. However, when the win is staged to be by only a couple of electoral votes (while losing the popular vote), the average American suddenly takes interest like it was the bottom of the ninth inning in game seven of the World Series.
Deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, every American has the image of Braveheart fighting to be free. Every individual thinks to himself, "You fucking morons, how could you have voted for this coke addicted mass murderer? I fucking hate this country!" Then something happens - controversy. Did he really win? Did his brother rig the election? (yes) Is Gore really the true winner? And as you watch the ballot counts and advertisements on CNN, you see that every election-fraud story takes more votes away from Bush and gives more votes to Gore. Eventually, you begin to believe that Bush fixed the election, so you begin to hate, and you begin to rally for Gore. The closer the vote count, the louder you cheer.
Finally, when the count shows that Gore won by a single vote, you imagine Michael Jordan soaring over Brian Russel to hit the game winning shot, and all of a sudden, Al Gore has become something bigger than Al Gore - he has become a hero. He has faced adversity and he has won against the harshest of odds set by the Bush family propoganda and election fraud machine.
This image was the real fix. George Bush knew he was never going to be elected president. After the Clinton impeachment scandal, the country needed a hero to rally around, and that hero was brought to you in the form of Al Gore courtesy of ABC, CNN, and Larry King Live. Today our hero defeated the evil coke addicted mass murdering George Bush even after Bush tried to cheat. See kids? Drugs are bad! Don't drink and drive! Don't cheat! Don't accept billions of dollars of soft PAC money from corporate special interests!
By the way, did I mention that I am also the illegitimate child of George W Bush?

Everyone has their own opinions, but almost everyone that has posted is basing their arguments on stereotypes or rumors, especially the guy who's bashing Americans. I liked this article, but the argument that it inspired is pretty lame.

He may have one the popular vote, but he's still as boring as a dead mule. He was too close to the Clinton scandal to be elected OR to be a hero. A hero is one who does great deeds. I wouldn't call losing to a man with a 1.5 GPA and the attention span of a toddler a 'great deed'. Maybe the democrats will get it together and realize even a turd on a stick could beat Bush.

And look at the date this was written: 11/10/2000. Do you remember what was going on then? An election dispute? Florida recounts? Any of this ringing a bell? At the time, this was topical satire to make light of a ridiculous situation. First of all. Why argue? Politics, hah. All of us are just ants. Miniscule little nothings that have no matter in anything. Your Mom, your Uncle, your mayor, everyone you know or have met has no control over what has, is, or will happen. It just does. F-ed up things happen sometimes, so do good things. There are people that are drivers, and all the rest, all of them, are passengers. Its everywhere you look...think about it. On a plane, in a car, at work, amusement parks, bars, restaurants...wherever you are. Your following the will of another person. You have no control over anything except what is within your own personal grasp. To argue over something like an election....ha....what a waste of time?? To argue over whether or not Iraq had WOMD....why?? Argue after the fact..thats intelligent?? Somewhere a "driver" made a decision, he/she calls the other drivers to back him/her up, and then if the magority of the group decides the action should take place...it does. There is no uncovering evidence, if the evidence is in control of the perpetrator. Everyones a fool, including me. I just choose to accept it. I get up everyday, I go to work for 8 hours, then I come home and just go about being me, keeping myself happy. I bet after this post you're going to talk about how Bush flew over into Iraq in his private stealth bomber and killed a bunch of innocent Iraqi's who, innocently enough, happened to be firing at him with M-16s.. Intresting, true on many levels I suppose. During the elections I was trapped in a boarding school with only infrequent updates on current events outside so I never really formed any opinions on either Bush or Gore at the time. Come to think of it, I still haven't other than I don't like the president thus so far. As for Florida? It's currently two countries with the border set across lake Okechobee (or however the hell it's spelled, I can't be bothered with Native American names, I'm a lazy intolerant American after all), south of that Border is the land of GeriCube where the population consists mainly of Cubans and Methuselas from the New England area. It is also known to some as Hell. But in response to the English bloke who had the gall to mock my beloved (hated) state I have this to say: I have been to England, I have been to Wales, I have been to Ireland, and I have been to Scotland. With the exception of Wales, they are all holes. Granted they are holes with some nice bits, but holes nontheless. Being English doesnt grant you any godly authority to pass judgement on Florida. (Of course the same rule does not apply to me, Americans can do whatever pleases them apparantly. I swear I get out of the mainstream for three and a half measly years and the nation goes apeshit...)

Amazingly enough, the truth is _I_ lost the election after trying to cheat. I convinced the DNC to round up old folks down in the sunshine state, put them on busses and instruct them to vote for me, saying "Vote for Gore, it's the second hole." That was my bad. I didn't realize my name was by the third hole until after the recount was well under way, and I didn't want to seem like an idiot by admitting all this and stopping the recount I set in motion. So instead I just accepted that I was going to lose and decided to have fun acting like a jackass on cnn for a while, as long as they were pointing the cameras at me anyway. As for Dubya and his coke addiction, shit, I was his dealer for a while, but doing coke scares the shit out of me. That shit'll make you sell your house. I prefer smoking ganja. You'd be amazed how easily lobby money from environmental groups can be attained when you promise to spend it ALL on graffix bongs, zig-zags and only the finest kind bud. The only FRAUD was the recount where counters were allowed to interpret voter "intent".
