Damn man, if I could only debate. I can't debate shit because I ride the fence too damn much. Actually it's more like extreme fence riding, but since fence riding is regarded as playing it safe I suppose that doesn't make any sense now does it?

It's not that I'm scared to argue or that I don't want to start anything. I mean arguments usually give me fresh ideas and viewpoints to work with on subjects I had previously thought I had made up my mind about.

I think it's more like this. I just want to weigh all the options out before I go out and say something that I may regret later. Damn near everything I try to say, or everything I think about is countered with "No, wait, I haven't thought about this side of the story. Shit now I have nothing to say." However if this topic is introduced by some person who is obviously opinionated and igorant to a few aspects of what he or she is talking about, I see a heated debate, both positive and negative, with shit that cripples everything I thought I had thought about.

New ideas I couldn't have fathomed by myself in a million years. But I still have nothing to say. I can only sit and wonder why I have to nit-pick with everything I do. It's almost as if I want it to be perfect (I think that's exactly what I want now that I think about it), but I end up riding the fence too damn much and all I get is some bullshit that nobody wants to respond to because it's not interesting enough. In my attempt at perfect I achieve less than mediocre response for my work. Of course what I am speaking of is mainly about my presence on Ubersite but it stays true for my very own everyday life as well.

The only thing I can offer is oddball humor because making people laugh at stupid shit is the easiest thing to do. I don't argue in "real" life because yes I am extremely intimidated by confrontations, whether postive or negative. I just try to blend in to whatever social environment which just so happens to be present at that time.

It sucks, because I constantly wage wars with myself on how I should have done or said something that I said. Nothing is ever good enough and when I actually do something that satisfies me (which happens once in a blue moon) it overwhelms me only to crush me when I do something that I don't think is "cool" enough or "smart" enough again. Without fail it happens in a predetermined cycle that I know will happen but I can never stop.

Perhaps I wine and complain too much, but I can't be wining that much because I know I weigh the issues far too much to go on the extreme and say something that I know isn't my view of perfection. Fuck being perfect, I can say it and feel it but I can't fight it.

Just something I had to get off my chest, I decided to write for myself this time around.

Need some confrontation assistace? I'm the queen of arguement. Sometimes I wish I could be more like you. I think I'd stay out of trouble more if I could be.

I think recognizing the other side of the debate LENDS to your credability!

I think your problem is that you actually listen to the other side of the debate.

Imagine being a prosecutor at a murder trial. Your job is to convict in the minds of the jury and if you paused for one second to validate the arguement given by the defense your credibility would be lost along with your case.

Facts go out the window. To win someone's attention during an arguement you have to be unwaivering in your opinion and you can win people over by being entertaining alot easier than by speaking the truth.

"If the glove doesn't fit..."

That line sealed the deal in the highest profile case our country had seen in decades. It's not fact, it's bad poetry and yet in the minds of the jury it made perfect sense.

Yeah, I get like this, too... and it's all about not wanting to be wrong. Before I'll really debate on any topic I must know EVERYTHING about it. I hate conveying a "solid" idea, only to have someone point out it's obvious flaws.

Maybe it's just that you're afraid to admit that you're wrong. It's not like that is all that unusual. I would be too except that I got it out of my system when I was in school. It's probably a byproduct of being ADD, but there is only so long that I can sit through that uncomfortable silence that follows, "does anyone have an answer to #3". 1000 2000 3000, ok we're just sitting here fine, "yea I got 42 for that one"

WRONG

Hey, whatever as least I said something.

I'm not making any sense. I guess what I'm saying is take a chance.

...but if you pick a side and stick with it, then you're just following blindly...what if you see the error of your ways. Debating is another way to share information, course its from opposing sides, but nevertheless that is the bottom line of what a debate is actually doing. 'A wise general is not afraid to change plans.' - Japanese proverb...I think.

I really do think this boils down, at some point, to confidence. You just have to be confident in the information you have and pick a side that makes the most sense to YOU and stick with it. Practise on Uber...

Hell... practise right now. Pick a side, I'll pick the opposite, and we can practise...

Maybe you just haven't ran into a subject you feel strongly enough about to debate. Unless you're looking to debate everything, but haven't debated anything so far, then you're just half steppin. "). It's your beliefs that fuels the convictions for your opinions. I've never been in a debate team, so I don't debate other people to win, I do it to shed truth. If the other person is ignorant of the subject then I will enlighten said person. If I was just pointed out a different view, then I've learned something.

Sounds as if you have trouble concentrating. I had the same problem, until I started drinking GFCS supplements...

Best 'o luck.

I completely understand...I'm the exact same way.

I've figured out the boy's punishment. First, he's grounded. No
leaving the house, not even for school. Second, no eggnog. In fact,
no nog, period. And third, absolutely no stealing for three months.
