Disclamier: If you're American you will probably want to ignore this, unless you know about Rugby.
What is it you ask, that can make a whole country simultaneously have their hearts shattered. No i'm not talking about 9/11, no war, no death, no crime.
Rugby. What else? It is like a religion here, we have the number one team in the world. Our little floater in the toilet bowl of the pacific, with only 3.5 million people, we have the best team. Tonight a country watched a game, 30 men and a ball. Everything stood still, a semi-final game in the rugby world cup. Our enemy? Our bitterest of rivals, Australia. We were the favourites, everyone had written off the Aussies, but I had this gut feeling.
My gut, that all consuming beast, was right. We lost. A whole country goes into shock, numb as they watch the ball go over the sideline and the ref blows his whistle. Four years we waited, all down the drain. You feel like you've just watched your dog get run over.
However, out of everyone I feel sorry for the All Blacks (the name of the New Zealand team as they wear all black uniform, nothing racist, this ain't America), they had the weight of a countries hopes on their shoulders and dropped them. They won't be roasted, just like you don't hassle a widow about how their husband was fat or smelly. You'll still know that though, and they'll still know you know.
We love Rugby way to much. I'm just waiting for hair to see this. Be merciful, please?

im rating this post even though its really old....
if your from N.Z. and your reading this and you have lost some national pride, all you gotta do is watch "once were warriors" then youll remember where you come from and the fact that you can beat your wife the day b4 your son has a court date

I'm happy that Australia won, but rugby isn't big here in Melbounre. Frankly, I would have been about 95% as happy if the Kiwis won, I love those guys. The all blacks rock.

America does have a team, and they got their first win in like 3 world cups too, against Japan of all people. But cheers for the support!

haha. like 4 yrs ago i was in NZ at some resturant.
then all of a sudden we hear a simultaneous sigh and curses.
i look to see what happened and i noticed that NZ had lost to Australia.
the people got so pissed off that one guy broke the TV after he threw a beer bottle at it.

being from ireland i know all about the heartache associated with rugby
we being eternal underacheivers(sp)it came as no surprise that we got
knocked out last week
the all blacks actually had my money on them today but i suppose the aussies just
wanted it more being at home
by the way after ireland the all blacks are my next favourite team
