Re-watching the capture of Saddam on television tonight made me remember something I'd heard a few months back. Something that I think may have been the smartest thing I've heard said thus far since the US invaded Iraq. It was by Comedy Central's Jon Stewart. It was said when the US troops toppled the statue of Saddam in the opening days of the war, but I think it really applies today too.
To paraphrase, he said that if you had opposed the war and could watch the scene play out without feeling even a bit of joy for the Iraqis, you were hopelessly lost to the ideological left. He then said that if you had supported the war but didn't feel even a pang of regret that the conflict could not be solved diplomatically and military intervention was required, you were hopelessly lost to the ideological right.
What a shame that a takes a political humorist to say something brilliant during this madness.

Where were YOU during the blackout? Well, funny you should ask really, we were in the middle of filming our segment on superfluous appliances, and just when we had everything plugged in, poof.

Kilborne sucks horribly, it's true. Worst of the late-night lot.
ugaly, Hairsphincter is bisexual.

Kilborn licks a lot of balls. There is nothing funny about his show.

Ya, I am really taking a liking to him. I've always thought he was funny, but after 9/11 when we got to see the human side of him, it changed my perception of him for the better and made me really start watching and listening to what he was saying. It's amazing to me how "on the mark" he seems to be sometimes in expressing the opinions of the masses.

You know, at first I thought, "this guy will never compare to Kilbourne."
How wrong I was.

Crazy Jew.
But you've got to realise that satire is funny because it is based on truth, that is what makes it so effective.

not bad, although this business of 'the iraqi people' is a bit dubious. presumably they are actually a diverse lot.

Lisechen, tell me about it...
I almost got teary-eyed watching that speech. And I didn't see it until about a month ago. That was an amazing speech. Jon Stewart is not only hilariously funny, but so intelligent that its scary. Plus he's a sex symbol, too. Now i'm jealous...

Yanno... on the whole 9-11 fiasco... They talk about Letterman breakin' down, but... damn. Now I didn't see Letterman, but I did see Stewart. And... crap, I wish I had recorded it. 'Cause it was beautiful.
I've got mad, mad, MAD respect for that guy. Auh. Intelligent and funny and... stuff.
Yay for Jon Stewart! And cookies for you.
