One may imagine the sight of billions of ants on board a driftwood, floating on a fast-running stream. The ants are apparently unaware that their driftwood is nearing a cataract. They seem to be even ignorant of the fact that they are on a driftwood. If they were aware, how could they afford to hate one another, scheme against one another, and be occupied with greed and hostility?
The moment when their driftwood falls down the cataract, what would anything mean to one or another ant, friend or foe?
This pathetic sight is nothing but an epitome of today's mankind.

There are two systems of power: one creative and one destructive. If the human being is using only the destructive power, then it will become suicidal. For a start it can look as though it is creative, but very soon it will show itself to be destructive. And the more technology is involved in it, the stronger it will accelerate so that at the end the creative power cannot balance the destructive.
The human being has to awaken the force of love in the long run, whereas the negative force is short-sighted and hard. It can live longer in its aggressivity and build stronger and stronger momentum so that it can even kill the power of love.
Sometimes the human being says god is evil, god creates war. How can god condone destructive weapons; how can god condone starvation? Cannot the human being see that she is the one who has created the wars out of her fear generated by negative force? Can she not see that she has created the starvation, that she has created the different cultures and traditions which allow starvation?
She has created the different religions which fight with each other and kill each other. In war human beings are standing against each other and shouting, "It is a holy war, god is with us." Do you think god is fighting with himself or that there are different gods? No, the human being is fighting because of her fear. She has pushed away her paradise. And she doesn't see that she is really right in the middle of it.

Look at the world. Though people have been trying to do even a hundred good deeds, the world has been going worse and worse. But why? It is because that which people have been trying to do is minor goodness, and that they have forgotten the existence of major goodness.
The Earth has come to the verge of destruction. Its survival depends on our actions at this very moment. But dear friends, we are in the Dark Age and it is impossible to make the right actions in the darkness. Thus it is of vital importance to bring Wisdom Light. When the Wisdom Light appears in the world, the darkness will disappear. And we will become able to see clearly and understand truly what is right to do and what is wrong to do. When I look, I find that there is no more dreadful a disease than fear. What else is there in life to be feared more that fear itself? Fear paralyzes the very being of a person. Fear destroys the whole capacity for rebellion. Fear makes any change impossible. Fear binds one to the known, and the journey to the unknown is completely stopped - although whatever is worth knowing and achieving in life is all unknown.
God is unknown. Truth is unknown. Beauty is unknown. Love is unknown. But the fearful mind always clings to the known. It does not go beyond the drawn line. It walks on the beaten track. The fearful person becomes mechanical, and he is no different than the drudge. Religions teach fear: fear of hell, fear of sins and fear of punishment. Society teaches fear - fear of dishonor. Education teaches fear - fear of failure.
Simultaneously there is greed attached - greed for heaven, greed for the fruits of virtue; greed for respect, position, reputation, success and rewards. All greed is the other side of the coin of fear. This way the consciousness of a person becomes full of fear and greed. The fire of jealousy and competition is aroused. The fever of ambition is created. There is no wonder if, in all these circular patterns, life is wasted.
Such education is dangerous. Such religions are dangerous. Education is that which teaches fearlessness, stabilizes one in non-greed, gives energy to rebel, gives courage to accept the challenge of the unknown. Education should not teach jealousy and competition, but love; it should not encourage the insane speed of ambition, but natural and self-inspired growth. But this can happen only if we accept the uniqueness of everyone's individuality.
