My theory is that other countries are thinking twice about producing chemical and biological weapons. We have proven that there IS a consequence to be suffered, unlike the way things were before. The proliferation and production of WMD have been brought down a notch.
Flame away all you want, but I am hoping this might generate some intelligent discussion. Don't bother rating, as this is just a discussion thread.
My stand on the matter is this:
While the war in iraq is questionable, the outcomes have been mostly positive.

Except for the fact that these talks have been happening for the last 9-10 months (so before the war) and Libya has been trying to normalize relations with the west since the end of the cold war

Well speaking of the proliferation of WMDs...I seem to recall the US backing out of a treaty of some sort with Russia about some bunker busters and what not.
Well while one country might have gotten scared into giving up their WMD the invasion of Iraq encouraged another to go after them more (see North Korea.

Fuck you and your blanket statement. What if Libyan scientists were to discover a more efficient way of producing nuclear materials, or cleaner nuclear power, or anything that could benefit humanity? Supression of ideas is the first step towards global domination...

I am sure they will be doing a lot of research instead of buying and copying plans from Russian plants, which are known for putting safety and enviromental concerns first.

Invading Iraq hurt the US global image but in the long run I think it will be good for us, and the world. Libya disarming its WMD is clearly related to the actions in Iraq. If the Govt in Iraq evolves into anything other than a dictatorship or a fanatical Muslim state then I can only see it helping spread democracy and freedom in the region.

There were also a lot of countries that didn't want to piss off Nazi Germany.

You are too smart to seriously make this connection, I hope you are only using it as a warning of what America could turn into, not what you see America as.

I'll start understanding our policy of going after countries who have weapons of mass destruction, as soon as the U.S. starts dismantling our nuclear arms. Sharon has been killing his own people, and has nuclear weapons... why is that ok?

So who is going to keep us from making WMD? Well more than the ones we already have.
Of course we need those right? I mean if we didn't have enough bombs to blow the world to hell and back at least 6 times what would be the point of having any?

Jeriko:
Read this and tell me the Israelis are without blame. Your claim that they are protecting land that is rightfully theirs is just not true.

We found Saddam, but still no weapons of mass destruction. So the war was a fraud based on our orignial reasons for going to war. Have you felt threatened by Lybia lately? Afraid of those mushroom clouds over our cities?

Israel has WMD, why doesn't America put any pressure on Israel for having WMD? How is anybody in the middle east suppose to take anything America says seriously when they see blatant double standards like that? "You work for us and your free to do as you please, international laws or human rights be damned. Oppose us, and we will crush you"
The outcome for the war has been positive? For who?
