I recently had the fortune to go to this show. I have been a po-punk lover all of my life, and this show truly reinforced my belief in it.
As I walked, I noticed that vast amount of boobs. Vast amount of boobs my age. This kind of distracted me for the first ten minutes or so, until Jersey came on.
Jersey is punk. There is no other way to say it. Their sound is rough, jagged and loud. I am not sure how well known they are outside of the GTA, but they should be better known. A brilliant set closing "Generation Genocide" proved that Jersey could start a party. During the twenty minutes that G.O.B was setting up for, I managed to:
-"Accidentally" throw myself into a nice rack
-Grab some Simple Plan and G.O.B t-shirts
-Get Jersey's autograph
-Check my coat (I was ready to spontaneously combust)
Then, G.O.B came on. I have loved G.O.B for three years, but this was the first of their shows I have seen. Thse guys royally kicked Jersey's ass in everyway of entertainment. They played every big song they have made, including
-"I Hear You Calling"
-"Soda"
-"Oh Ellin"
-"Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones
-"Ming Train(sp)"
-"For The Moment"
-"You're too Cool"
-A brilliant set-closing "Give up the Grudge" I must have heard this song literally 1000 times on radio, but they made it sound new and brilliant.
In the middle, during Soda, the hardest rocker of all of G.O.B's songs, G.O.B's bass player ran off. Everybody was wondering what the hell was going on. Out of nowhere, Cone from Sum 41 jumps on the stage, plays for about 20 seconds, and runs back in. It was easily the most surprising moment I have ever seen in a concert. The crowd went nuts for the next couple minutes.
There was about a twenty minute break between G.O.B and Simple Plan. I had worked my way into the mosh pit so that I was nearly at the stage, and I wasn't going to give it up.
Simple Plan. These guys are one of my favorite bands at the moment, and this proved why. They came on, and played their hearts out. With lots of banter, and large amounts of homo-eroticism, they were the most amusing. After playing songs like "Grow Up", "Addicted", "Perfect", a number of songs off of their album, and two new songs, the crowd was in a frenzy. Simple Plan left the stage, and then came back.
They then played my absolute favorite song of all time, "I'm Just a Kid", and had the whole crowd singing along for all four minutes of it. I can't begin to describe how amazing they were. I forgot where I was, who was around me, and just focused on the band. After that song, they played their mega-hit "I'd Do Anything", It was over.
I left wanting more.
Cost - $20
Worth - $45

Simple Plan is not a fucking boyband with guitars, nor is any pop-punk band. Pop-punk is pop-punk, plain and simple. Its catchy, full of hooks, energetic, and fun to rock out to. Boyband music is cheesy and uhh... danceable?...

This post is so....horrible. But the responses definitely make it worth your time. I have to say I got some good laughs from the (shit I'm going to be the first to use this word) POSERS trying to explain punk. "rah rah! Rancid is punk, man! boooo! hear my punk ass rawr! now I just have to get five more stamps on my Hot Topic card and I'll really be hard core!!"
Now I'm going to be the next to use another word, TEENY BOPPER!
Simple Plan is a band full of, and listened to by, Teeny Boppers. I should know, my sister is a huge fan.
Don't worry, in a few months they'll be gone. Just like Avril. Man, I hadn't heard her name in so long I had almost forgotten about her, seeing as how she isn't on the radio anymore and all.

fukking fuckety fuk sh'fuk...
this reminds me of what is happening now to goth music because of nu-metal shit like korn and slipknot and marylin manson and how an army of little teenage morons who buy their clothes from capitalists like 'hot topic' who listen to that nu-metal shit and say and think it is goth without ever even hearing ACTUAL GOTHIC MUSIC are destroying the gothic club scene and the (thankfully former lack of) perception of gothic music.
number one mistake people - nothing that is heavy metal or hiphop or a stupid combination of the two has anything to do with gothic culture music...
i'll just go cry in anguish in the dark from whence i came now *feigns putting hand to forehead*

Why the hell you are saying my music is not punk, i do not know. I only said that Jersey were punk, and I am fairly sure that you have never heard them. Everything elese is POP-punk.
Just because YOU disagree does not mean that you are right. You listen to punk, I will not debate that, but perhaps a genre can be wider than your brain

I'm still here...
First of all, to the jackholes who are trying to mediate the situation with their stupid compromises "Oh it's just an opinion," "Punk has many definitions," and "I like penis," I respond, respectively, as follows: I don't care if it's an opinion, it's a stupid one because liking music that lacks anything resembling proficiency is testament to one's lack of appreciation for musical sophistication and complexity; Punk only has one definition, any other definition is that of a subgenre, and not real punk; I like vagina.

i saw simple plan before they made it big... they were an opening act for sugar ray (yes i know...) and after simple plan played, they came around the audience (which was pretty small) gave everyone a card for advertisement, and signed all of them right in front of you-- they sat in the seats next to me and my friend and i got to chill out with them while we watched sugar ray, i got to hug them... good stuff. but now i dont really like their music. kinda sucks.

WTF is true punk? I couldnt tell you, but I have a feeling its not anything thats played on MTV. Maybe bands like DK, Misfits, Bad Brains, the Damned, Ramones, Black Flag are "real" punk, as they begin to define the genre. Or maybe bands like Blink, Sum41 and Simple Plan are "real" punk, as they are bands that MANY people consider punk.
Pfft. No.

"If you want TRUE punk then listen to something like Rancid or NOFX"
What the fuck is wrong with everyone? Calling these shit bands 'punk' is like calling Korn 'metal.' Real punk came in the 70s and 80s, and then ended. Punk doesn't exist now. All these bands are hardcore or pop-punk or nu-punk or ska or one of those other subgenres, but none of it is even close to actual punk.
Dead Kennedys are the best punk band ever; Sex Pistols and the Ramones are up there too.
Simple Plan, Blink 182, Rancid, etc etc etc are as close to punk as Avril Lavigne, and about as talented as one of those toy monkeys that clap cymbals together. When it's turned off.

hell...if you're gonna listen to punk, go full out and listen to the real thing (Black Flag, Social Distortion, Rancid, Pennywise, Death By Stereo)
those guys definitly dont just mash 3 chords in repetition...well, maybe black flag. but all of these bands are talented out the wazoo and can blow jersey, simple plan, gob, blink, and all those other lame black-nail-polish-wearin pop-punk wimps out of the damn water.

I'd rather hear about dark, sinister things than bullshit 3 power chord, 3 minute 'songs' featuring prepubescent pansies whose voices haven't yet changed, 'singing' about their 'girl'friends, or how they broke up with someone, or they're TOTALLY anti-authority TO THE MAXX0R!!!!!!11@21
Musical proficiency, speed, precision, and technicality are hallmarks of death metal, but I wouldn't expect you to know this, as you've probably never heard any before, and thus your place to judge is nonexistent. I have stupid friends that like similar 'music' as that which you like, so I've been subjected to its painfully contrived and boring and uncomplex instrumentation and lyrics. You like shitty music. Now die.
