What Christmas means to me
I have this troop under me. He is a great kid. The kind that you couldn't help but love. He is 19 years old, and looks all of 14. He gets to spend this Christmas overseas this year. His wife and 6 month old baby will not see him for another 2 months.
His wife is young, a 19 year old girl herself. She never spent a Christmas away from her family in Georgia, yet here she was, with a baby, and nobody around. She is a brave girl, her face always giving a polite smile when anyone would inquire if she needed anything, replying that she is fine, she would make do. A fiercely proud girl. Not a single tear shed in public, not a negative word.
Her story was heard by a few of us, and we threw some cash together. Enough to get her and her baby a plane ticket. We called her family up, and they said they could pick her up at the airport. The Chief and the Colonel went over to her house in person to present her and her son their Christmas gift on the 21st. She was to leave in 2 days. She was so happy she cried.
Before she left, she made cookies for EVERY SINGLE FAMILY that donated for the tickets. She must have made over 1000 cookies. In 2 days. Those cookies, wrapped in plastic wrap with a piece of string tied in a bow, were the best Christmas gift I ever got.
Merry Christmas guys. Just remember: Not everyone can spend Christmas with a familiar face. For every kid in Iraq, there is a mother, wife, or child wondering if they will ever come home. For every one of you complaining how your presents sucked, there is a fake tree in the sand decorated with beercans. Look around you. Maybe it isn't all that bad.
Thank you troops. We will keep a light on, so you may find your way home.

Cough, you fucking troglodyte, he's not babbling patriotic, this is story of how people got together to give, in the (cliche alert) Spirit of Christmas. And then the recipient of their generosity gives back to them simpley and selflessly.
If you have a problem with the military, well, that's one thing. Applying your anti-military prejudices to this post is another. Lick a dick, fag boy.

Now this is a great story. Appreciation of our troops minus the jingoistic bullshit. Thank you and happy holidays to the men and women of our armed services.
