Sorry, no Italian. I'm Irish, French-Canadian, Polish, and other assorted European flavors.
As to the whole "worth of posting a picture" argument, I think that there is validity in the idea of maintaining this site as a place where looks *don't* come into play, where you are judged only on your words. After all, where else can you get that in life? But it's also very human to want to know the face of someone else that you get to know well. Even though I've never met the vast majority of people on this site, there is a lot about me that has come through in my writing that people I meet on a casual basis would NEVER know. So I understand why people asked me for a photo, and I decided to go along. Loren's UberDirectory is such a fun thing to look at because it puts faces with the names, and gives you another piece of info on the person who you know through the writing. I agree with Razor's point that when newbies only post photos it's universally frowned upon because there is NO prior knowledge of who they are. They haven't gone through their UberInitiation, there's no personality---just a photo. This site isn't about judging people on their looks, and if that's what someone wants, they can pretty easily find a site that's perfect for that.
Now, the ratings of photo-only posts---there's a whole other can of worms. I agree with ess2ses (damn, I'm so sorry!!!! How do you pronounce it? Then maybe I can sound your name out when I try to write it.) that content is what's important in a post, and that this one has no intellectual content. I'm not complaining about getting nice ratings for my pictures, because heaven knows we can all use an ego boost when it comes to looks, but at the same time it did feel wrong to me when the shot of my leg had a higher rating than posts that I'd worked really hard to write.

I have to say that I am of two minds when it comes to pictures on what is, essentially, a text driven medium. I value the semi-anonymous nature of the internet. It allows a certain freedom of action. Shouldn't it be that what one writes, not what he or she looks like determine how they are received on the site? Also on the negative side, if you are a reasonable attractive woman it will automatically draw out the pre pubescent computer geeks. On the other hand it is always nice to put a face to the author of the writers you enjoy reading.

Let me put it this way. Is SpikeGoddess getting flamed for putting up a picture? No. Did *I* flame her? No. I gave her a well deserved minus two and complemented her in my reply. The minus two was for the fact that that particular post could have come from anybody on Uber. The only difference was the face. The complement was for the person behind the post, who is clearly beautiful and obviously sharp as a box full of (ahem) razors.
The fact of the matter is, I love Spikegoddesses posts and I love reading them. There was nothing to read here. Thus I gave it a minus two. Other posts that she has produced (I refer you to one of my favorites: http://www.ubersite.com/m/16604 ), have moved me and stimulated me in the dome for sheezy and for that I give a well deserved *plus* two.
I have to also remark that though you and SpikeGoddess may know each other in person and I do not (unfortunately), I see no need to defend her post. She agreed with my decision to minus two her post for the exact reasons I initially stated and if she did disagree with my rating she has more than enough venom to put me downtown herself.
I respect you Razor, you are one of the snazziest authors and snappiest thinkers on this site, but I must heartily disagree with you on this matter.

Do I feel a slight pang of jealousy at seeing Spike's pic only post in the most heated? Sure I do, but I am adult enough to understand why it is in the most heated forum. ok. A collective "Did you really think that through?" for the people bitching about the double standard between newbies posting their pictures and established users posting their pictures.
It annoys the shit out of people when newbies do it, because there is no criterion on which to base an opinion aside from physical looks.
When an established user posts a picture of themselves, you now have a face to go with a name and personality and writing style that you already know.
So, don't compare apples and oranges people.

I posted this picture because people have been begging me FOREVER to post one, and now that I have my own camera, I could take enough practice shots to get a decent one that I could stand to post. Believe me, I HATE pictures of myself to the point that my best friend has less than 7 pictures of me, and I wouldn't let my parents buy any of my high school senior portraits.

That's why it pains me to give you a minus 2. I do this for two reasons:
1) I am hung over as fuck
and
2) People -2 the balls off of Nubers that come to this site and camwhore all their posts. It is universally regarded as unwelcome when someone pollutes this site with nothing but their picture. But countless times I have seen an Uber-elder post a pic only post and get positive ratings. This is a double standard.
