Bush is going to let illegal immigrants from Mexico cross the border and stay here if they can find a job when they get here. Once they are here, they don't have to become legal. Your thoughts?

I once made this ridiculous post on a website called Übersite. People mocked me and shunned me and hurt my wittle feelings. But they also gave me a moment of clarity. Just to throw this into the immigration discussion pot...when people throw fits about <fill in demographic of illegal aliens> stealing American Jobs, consider this...only about 6% of Americans are foreign born, as opposed to 8% in Britain and 11% in France. The numbers might be slightly different, but it's from a 1999 finding. The public discussion (much like gun violence in that post from earlier today) makes the situation seem much more dire than it is. Or at least that's how it seems to me...I could be wrong.

I am curious to see different people's opinions, that's why I posted it like that. My opinion is this, it's outrageous. What about the legal immigrants here that became legal? Basically being an American citizen isn't worth anything anymore. And to Loki, I don't need to provide links, and documents and all that bullshit, it's all over the news, I'm sure pretty much everyone's heard about it by now.

simple. bush is trying to get the latino vote. That is all this is. There are so many latinos here, and he simply wants those votes, which usually go to democrats. Thats all it is.

This is quite possibly the most over simplified rendition of a complex topic I've ever seen.
I really enjoyed following the links you put up to all the news stories about it, the commentary that you provided that expressed your own opinion and the stats of the numbers of "undocumented workers" as well as the provisions of the bill - except not.
