did you know that britain accounts for one fifth of all the closed-circuit camera's on public streets in the world?
there a million camera's on our streets, on a night out in london you can expect to be captured on CCTV at least THREE HUNDRED TIMES.
they use that shit to track 'social undesirables' like homeless people and groups of kids in certain area's so they can send in some police to 'remove' them if they are acting 'suspicious'.
whenever i go out to my local all-night store i pass by a camera on a tall fukking pole right in the middle of the main road junction in my town.
it follows me as i walk.
BEHIND THAT CAMERA PEOPLE ARE WATCHING MY EVERY MOVE JUST BECAUSE I AM THERE TO WATCH.
if your american and you love freedom then don't come to britain.
oh and tony blair must die...

the average american is on camera at least 40 times a day. Preserving freedom is more difficult than you think.

"Those who would trade freedom for peace, will have neither."
Its actually security that you trade for freedom for, not peace. But the sentiment is still there. They tried something like this in California, for speeding tickets. It was massively unpopular. You want to watch people, don't put up cameras they can see.

Are you planning to do something illegal in the middle of the streets soon?
If not, why are you scandalized? Chances are these cameras would allow to catch the thug that mugged you.

This way of thinkin scares me.

Four things:
1. F + U + C + K = Fuck.
2. Capitalization is good. Capitalization of whole sentences is bad.
3. I'm not too huge of a fan of the "loony left" either, but when you cover your ears, you block out the good and the bad. Same thing applies to the, um, Rambunctious Right.
4. You can +2 yourself all day long and still not make your post any better.
At least you kept it short. Some people on here love to see that they have written so much that the scroll bar is miniscule.

Have you heard of the Patriot Act?
The government can go to a library and find out every single book that i have ever checked out. Maybe you should move to Austrailia.

being someone mugged or such on public streets is the price ot pay for the freedom. It is the same freedoms that our ancestors fight and died for in past wars, not just this but the hundreds of others we take for granted, even in free countries such as America we still must fight and protest to have freedoms taken away. I would rather be mugged..or worse. Than have me or my children or so forth have to live in a world controlled by the governmen't or some such. Even the smallest invasion of privacy is wrong. If anyone has read the story "Harrison Burgereon" (sp?) that is a good example. It is a short story I still remember even though I read it MANY years ago in middleschool.
Not trying to be a fanatic or anything. I feel that civil issues should be handled in non-violent means only. I just feel strongly about issues of freedom, as I come from a line of people who served in the military and was raised to be patriotic, and all that junk. Blah blah blah...freedom...words words words, big government is bad, ramble ramble ramble....

To this, I reply a few famous quotes:
When they took the 4th Amendment away
I was quiet because I didn't deal in drugs...
When they took the 6th Amendment away
I was quiet because I had never been arrested...
When they took the 2nd Amendment away
I was quiet because I didn't own a gun...
Now they have taken the 1st Amendment away
and all I can do is be quiet...
and then Ben Franklin's quote
"Those who would trade freedom for peace, will have neither."
Every SINGLE piece of freedom you can hold onto you need to. For little by little they will be taken away, or attempted at least. It is that whole "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie..." Effect. OR give an inch and they will try to take a mile.

oh i see, you agree with the loony left who want to get the police off british streets..
well they have, do you know that some rural areas have no police presence AT ALL AT ANY TIME for areas of up to 50 miles around?
less police, more cameras watching us.
i don't know wether more police or more cameras is better but i'll you what..

We have these in New York City as well, and there's this group called "The Surveilance Camera Players" who perform plays in front of the cameras. They'll dress up in ridiculous costumes and start performing guerilla theatre on the street, and it makes the passers-by aware of the cameras. They get hassled by cops and chased away, only to move to the next camera. They'll make these huge posterboard "subtitles" for the shows because the cameras don't have an audiofeed. It's pretty fucking amazing. I think they did the entire Oedipus cycle...
