Yes that's right, jobs should be mandatory. It should be a law that everyone has to have at least a part time job. Now if everyone in the US was mandated by law to have at least a 20 hour a week job and we followed Wesley Clark's (although im not a Wesley Clark supporter I think this is decent) plan and raised minimum wage to 7 dollars an hour the economy would probably do better.
Of course the jobs and hours would be proportional to age and gender. obviously a 34 year old woman married with two kids wouldn't have to work a 45 hour week breaking bricks in a construction yard, and a 24 year old male wouldn't be selected to work a 25 hour week because it wouldn't be enough for them to live on. Of course the lesser work week job would be given to stay at home parents and elderly people. Of course people wouldn't be forced to take any job the state run jobs would be available only if people were having trouble finding a job or didn't do anything else. The major reason this would be great would be because it would keep people from doing nothing or having to turn to selling drugs or something.
Now obviously the problem would be having jobs to give people so what should be done is what FDR did and start a massive civilian work program. First off there would be state run daycares, because obviously that would have to be some way to take care for children if the parents are working.
Now I'm sure people are saying but how would these jobs be paid for? Simple government run prostitution, and increasing taxes on a few select items. First of all prostitution would be run by the government. there'd be a bureau of Prostitution located in every district (much like a DMV)
Prostitution would be taxed, as would the other select items I mentioned including Pornography (8.5% tax wont stop anyone from buying porn but with a 2 billion dollar a year industry this would certainly help us all out. Next Abortions: these would be taxed at something like 5 or 10% again not unreasonable. Churches would have there tax free status revoked after all if your going to be so active in government your damn well not going to be tax free. Finally all fast food would be subject to a 10.5% tax hopefully this would encourage people not to eat it and maybe stop the obesity problem our country has or at the very least would add a few more pennies to things like welfare (yes we'd still have it) disability, maternal leaves for the state run jobs and just to help pay for the state run programs. finally a maximum wage and a slightly higher federal income tax maybe 2 or 3% and bam
Now I'm not sure how many of you people think this is a decent idea probably very few but at the very least it might keep bored stay at home parents from thinking of ways to sue over stupid frivolous things.

anyways if you hated this sorry and feel free to -2 me. I've certainly gotten used to it haha.

This idea is like communism...it's nice in theory in the fact that everyone is working together and being happy, but this would never ever work in real life. People would rebel on the intrustion to their seemingly "God-given" freedoms to do whatever the hell they want. Plus, what is a job? Is being an author considered a job, even though he or she makes their own hours? How would self-employed people do? Nah, this idea is actually shit, now that I think about it. And people who don't have jobs suffer, as they then don't have cash. Prostitution (along with all drugs) should be legal and taxed, but the Church? Nah, keep church n' state seperate, man.

Civilian work program and state control?

Sounds a bit like communism to me.

Only -1 because I have to say, religion should indeed be taxed. You assholes don't like separation of church and state? Fine. I'll let you have a ten commandments statue in your courtroom if you pay taxes for being religious (read: stupid).

I don't know why I'm bothering with a post as bad as this, but oh well.

Pretty much everything you mentioned involves more government spending, which will ALWAYS mean higher taxes, taking money from other government programs, or inflation (The money has to come from somewhere) Anyone who says otherwise needs to take ECON 101.

Also, the minimum wage is what economics refer to as a price floor. You can probably find this in "Economics for Idiots" if there is such a thing. If it is an unbinding price floor in any given market, then raising the minimum wage has no effect. If it is binding, then it has a direct result of unemployment, and puts a strain on business.

It really hurts to do this as a half-assed review, but you're not worth it.

Where would these jobs come from, and who would monitor to make sure people worked? This is a stupid idea. Perhaps we should also revoke the nonprofit status of the red cross so that government can halfass the work they already do too.

please don't ever say "feel free to -2 me" or anything like that, it makes you sound like a moron.

with that said and after reading about 5 lines, i think your plan is idiotic and full of holes.

example: sure, let's make the disabled work.

Oh wait... I just clicked back and made sure you didn't mention that, and noticed you want to tax prostitution and blah blah blah, and have decided that -2, you are a moron.

Hey we have a new pinko to the site with a little bit of influence from Israle on the side. Now your plan might work, but why don't you try it somewhere else, that plan of yours wouldn't work very well here, why? Well all the fat asses with money would bitch and moan, and because they have all the money (aka power) they wouldn't let it happen. Given thats only power that we (speaking we as in the average of this nation, the middle class working citizen) give them and it would be possible to overthrow them thats not what this country is about. Think about all of the talk in this country about the freedom that we have, you wouldn't exactly have that in your plan, it would go against the values that are socialized into us since our birth, people wouldn't accept it, just like we wouldn't accept communism. -2 just becaus this wasn't very well thought out, sounds like something a person who got tired of the whole anarchy thing and wanted to be semi-original would come up with.

do you know why, all the jobs are going to foreign countries, its because they're willing to work as hard if not harder for less than americans, by putting on a minimum wage we are encouraging american employers to look elseware for labor, leaving american workers in the dark, take for instance france with some of the most strict job protection laws in europe, they have massive unemployment because the french companies dont want to hire french workers becuase they wouldn't be able to fire them. Unemployment is bad and unfortunate, but it is necessary for the generation of wealth in a capitalistic system. It must be able to hire and fire at its own will. fuck this im writing a post about this

I do agree, kind of. People that apply for "unemployment benefits" from the government should be given a job that the government provides (say Boeing and a cabinet compnay had an agreement with the government to hire X amount of their applicants). If they refuse the job, or get fired for not showing up/whatever they are refused benefits and are required to go to classes for a month.

Then the whole process starts over.
