Due to the fact that I eat a lot of fast food, I consider myself a maven on fast food franchise french fries. Some fries are good, some fries you shouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. The following is a list of the moajor franchises ffries, and whats good and bad with them.
1. McDonalds: Now I personally hate these fries. 75% of the time they are soggy, They are the greasiest fries ever, either they have too much or not enough salt, and finally they are horrible for ketchup dunking.
2. Burger King: BK's fries are good for ketchup dunking, but thats about it. And sometimes they don't have any ketchup, aorund certain holidays or special occasions they put out this green shit. I guess the whole thing was to attract lil kids, which suits because it looks like baby shit. Anyway like I said they are good for ketchup dunking and nothing else. Also, sometimes their fries are hollow. Not to mention I always ALWAYS end up with atleast one onion ring in my fries. It's like a big onion ring conspiracy.
3. Jack in the Box (or as I call it Jack in the Crack): I try to avoind eating there at any cost so I don't know what their fries are like.
4. Carl's Jr: These fries are alright, because they are good for ketchup and shake dunkage. But like McDonalds they can sometimes be a lil geasy. The other problem with CJ's is ur fries are always 50-50, 50% are good the other 50% are soggy. And don't get me Started on the "criss cut" deep fried lawn chairs they try to pass off as fries.
5. Arby's: Now I like Arby's fries because you got a selection. You have Homestyle fries, which are good for ketchup, but which are bad because they are too filling but there's some M.S.G. in it so you can't stop. And you got curly fries, which are actual fries, not the criss cut shit. Curly fries are good just bythemselves, and are bad for the same reasons as homestyle. Also like BK when I ever get an order of either homestyle or curly, at least 1 of the other kind of fry "slips" in.
6. In 'n' Out: Now before I begin on In 'n' Out I would like to laugh at everyone on the east coast's face because, most of them will never taste a #2 (double-double, fries, and drink, which I always change to a chocolate shake) or anything from there. So where was I? Oh yea, Me and almost everyone in CA (mostly SO. CA) agree In 'n' Out is the best at what they do. Don't believe me? Go to Valencia, CA and go to an In 'n' Out during lunch. Losing track again. To me In 'n' Out has the best fries, you could disagree about that but you'd be wrong. Where else can you find perfectly salted, perfect for dunking in ketchup and shakes (but not at the same time), and perfectly sized fries on earth that you get to see them slice the potatoes so you know they aren't just frozen packages in the freezer waiting to be thawed. No, these are fresh fries. The only problem with their fries is that one or two fries are soggy, also their fries get cold pretty fast, which doesn't bother me much since I woof them down before I eat my burger. Other then that they're perfect.
So there's my list, if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions for franchises I missed, tell me and i'll probably do nothing about it.
Side Note: The whole time I was typing this I was listening to Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin

I dig on McD's frys, but only when they are fresh from the frier, otherwise they blow...much like the ones I had tonight.
Arby's curly fries are great, but bad for dipping in ketchup or whatever else because they don't fit into those stupid paper dipping cup thingies.
Wendy's fries are the worst.
Chuck, you live in Valencia? I grew up there...McBean and Orchard area.

Hmmm, good point Skat (I'm not just calling you that because it's quicker to type, I'm doing it because it makes me chuckle =P). KFC potato wedges are pretty damn good. I forgot all about those.

I would agree... I tried just about every type of burger place when I was in the states, and I think that they are the best fries... but they do get cold too quick, and cos they're fresh they taste awful when they're not hot.
You lot dont know what you're missing out on... we have CHIPS - big fat loveyly wedges of potato fried to perfection, and usually including lots of crispy bits which is a nice compliment to the soft tasty fat chips. And they stay hot because they're not iddy biddy thin (and believe it or not, they actually soak up less fat [less surface area pound for pound] than french fries).
FISH AND CHIPS RULE!!!!!!! Long live the queen and fish and chips!

Penn Station is the shizzle-dizzle. I miss that now that I live in Florida.

The best fries are either Rally's or Penn Station. Arby's is a close third. Penn Station's are great because they fry them in peanut oil. I think Rally's might do the same thing.

I personally prefer rotten fries. Like not nasty rotten, but just green fries. Not ALL green, but maybe one spot on the end of it. This has nothing to do with my booty-lickin' fetish.

I know someone who worked at an In n Out, he said the employees thought nothing of cutting up a few of the older, more rotten potatoes...

I personally like McDonald's fries, I don't know why. Do you remember back in the early 90's, when KFC made Chicken Fries? Those were awesome!
