What I Love About Ubersite: A Rant (696 hits)

Eh, Posting this kicks my story "I Travelled Across the Universe to Kill Myself" off the front, I really liked that story so if anyone wants to see it here http://www.ubersite.com/m/23627 . Anyways I type this because for some reason I am unusually Hyper right now and in an incrdibly contemplative mood. These two don't go very well together for the uberpublic when I am stationed in front of my computer with nothing else to do.
I got to thinking about why I like ubersitie so much, I mean we all know it is great, but why?
First off, I personally discovered ubersite for myself about two months ago. I frequented boredatwork.com for a while as it was one of the few entertaining websites not blocked by my schools filter (yes I am still in school, that by nature makes my opinions and thoughts, less important to many of you, oh well, that's life). My school system made the mistake a few years ago of giving all highschool students laptop computers equipped with wireless internet. All was great for a while then they removed several programs and put uber restricting filters on.
Alas I have not much to do in school, except learn or desperately search the internet for amusement. Not much of a hard choice to me, as for the most part I have done most of my learning outside the classroom. So anyway where was I, oh yes. I stumbled on to boredatwork.com and had exhausted all the links in a matter of days, this is what happens when you have hours of freetime in front of a computer. Saddened by the loss of amusement I noticed something, this "ubersite" was more than just a few stories featured on boredatwork. There were thousands upon thousands of other stories besides the featured ones. Better yet, there were more added daily.
My new past time was found, and I will continue to enjoy it until it is blocked at school (God forbid this day ever should come). Like many I simply read at first. Particularly enjoying the posts from the more experienced users, who over time had refined their writing styles to suit the audience online. After a while, like many of you, I was no longer satisfied with just reading, I did the dreaded "First Post". Thankfully my first post wasn't shredded, damaging my fragile ego (HAH!) and preventing me from ever posting again. Luckily other of my posts were demolished, though, thankfully more positives than negatives.
After posting for about a month I have noticed some things. About why Ubersite is so enjoyable.
1) It is full of people who are actually SMART: Yes, gasp! Many of the users on ubersite are actually smart. You can relate to these people. They too are going through life surrounded by idiots. Idiots they constantly must deal with throughout the day, and because of this are seeking out people who are intellectual equals. Okay, that is incredibly arrogant of me, oh well. That brings me to another point.
2) You can type whatever you want! : There is freedom on ubersite, you aren't stifled by shit brained editors or proffesors, or even bosses. You post what you want to post and that is all. No one forces you to write just as no one stops you from writing. There unfortuneatly is a downside to this. Many people abuse said freedom and take to posting garbage, I for one am guilty of this, such as this post. Fortuneatly God has provided again. Giving us a ratings system so as to easily avoid such tripe. With a quick glance we can determine, hopefully, whether a post is worth reading or not. Thanks to the selfless sacrifices of those uberusers who went before us and put themselves through the anguish of reading shit posts and give the infamous Neg. Two to such posts. Leaving a warning to those who may follow about the quality of the post.
Finally the third and greatest part of ubersite...
3) Instant Gratification: Yes, the "American Dream" even to those who aren't American. What you want Now, little or no waiting. What I mean by this is that when you post something, you musn't wait long before you are made aware of what others think. Almost instantaneous is the response. You see, ubersite is full of people such as yourselves, scanning through the posts at all hours of the day and night, looking for the gem among the seemingly endless flow of garbage. Their are few better feelings than seeing an army of +2's grace the ratings of your posts. Likewise, for those of us who actually try and post worthwhile stories there are few things worse than seeing a stream of -2's at the bottom of posts we have put our hearts and souls into. Really there is no feeling like knowing that something you did, something you put effort into and wrote so others could read and enjoy, is doing just that,. Being read and enjoyed. Thanks to ubersite, you have not only a forum to post your work, but also people on these forums who will almost immediately validate or demolsih your writings. That to me, is AMAZING.
Well, so ends my rant on why ubersite is great to me. If you at least found it worthwhile, maybe post what you enjoy about ubersite. If you though this post was craptastic, then well...do what we all know you will do. Rate it a -2 with some sarcastic comment about how what you like about ubersite is making fun of idiots like me, or something like that. That is your freedom to do so, and while me and others may not enjoy it when you post crap stories and ratings, you obviously get some enjoyment from it, so good for you. It really isn't that different from those of us who post in earnest trying to brighten and make a difference on others. We each are trying to ease the boredom and enjoy ourselves, you just happen to do it at the expense of others, which is sad. However, it is your freedom and that is what ubersite is to you.
I wrote a lot apparently, and it isn't broken up very well. Sorry about that, hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it. It helped ease my racing mind, if you didn't enjoy it I'm sorry, hopefully you will get amusement out of trashing it in your ratings...and to squattail

yeah I wrote a lot, no need to really read the intro's that is pretty much all backround information on how I found ubersite. Non-essential information...main points are all that are needed, the rest is just there to explain why I write.

yeah I hate being in high school. High school sucks, everyone around me sucks, I suck. That seems the mentality everyone has towards high school and those in high school, whether or not it is true I neither know nor care. Thankfully I am closer than ever to being out of high school and onto college, and despite the fact that I am one of the oldest in my school I look younger than even some freshmen. It is cuts.
I usually don't enjoy the company of those my own age, funny as I think about it I have always "hung around" with people at least a few years older than me. Whether it be with my sister, 2 years my senior, and all her friends when I was 0-10 years old, or with the people I currently hang around with. I have never really felt I fit in with those my own age as their problems/concerns/intrests have always been different. Not that I am more mature, God I'd like to think I'm not that arrogant. It is just that I seem to relate better to those older than me despire the fact that I am annoying as hell.
Funny thing is despite my choice in friends I really haven't even gotten involved in even the weakest of drugs or alcohol or smoking. Not that I'm a yuppie, preachy little ass. I just never really felt like doing that stuff even when given the oppurtunity. Plus, I've had many friends who do such things threaten to kick my ass if I ever do things such as smoking, as they feel they can't stop and regret ever starting.
I guess that's just me(God, I'm in a reflective and sharing mood right now, I feel like an AttentionWhore) I enjoy talking with those from a different Backround/Place/Age than me, no matter how slight the difference is. I find that too many people are too fixated with themselves (As I apparently am right now) than with others. Chatting with those different from you is a great way to get a new perspective on things. Having a narrow mind is something I fear, as I feel that having the perspectives of others is a "good thing" as it stops you free being a dick/ass and you can (as I've shown on the smoking issue) learn from those with more worldly experience than you. Shit, I write a lot. Feel free to put me in my place, as I usually feel I need to be. Not enough reality checks makes for someone who isn't great to be around.

oh, and sorry if this idea has been done before as I'm sure it has. Seems everything has been on here heh. This was the Simpson's Quote that appeared at the bottom when I was done, seemed rather fitting,
