I watched « My big fat obnoxious fiance » yesterday. This TV show challenged a beautiful young catholic school teacher (Randi) to con her family into believing she has fallen in love with a totally repulsive guy on a dating reality show and that she is marrying really soon (like next week). If she is able to convince all her family and friends to attend the marriage without leaving the ceremony or objecting, then she wins 500 000$.

What she does not know is that the obnoxious fiancé (Steve) is a professional actor that is doing everything he can to drive her and her family nuts. She thinks he is another conestant in the same boat as her and he has to convince his family.

In yesterday's show, they had to pretend that they were a real couple in front of a sex therapist. Randi looked shocked at some of what Steve was saying and told the sex therapist that she was a catholic school teacher, implying that she had moral principle to live up to and that she is not willing to discuss sexuality in crude terms.

Steve and the TV show crew is actually pretty cruel with Randi and they play with her emotions a lot. They always find a way to reassure her when she is on the point of quitting the show because it is too painful or too obvious that her family will reject her fiancee.

She is putting her family through hell and back with this show.

Now, I am thinking about what a twisted game this is! I am also thinking that 500 000$ is not that huge amount of money for all the emotional distress she is living and giving her family.

The conclusion is: As a catholic school teacher, it is ok to con your innocent family for a twisted reality TV show for a not so great amount of money, but it is not ok to talk about sexuality in crude terms.

I wish I could say to Randi: "What would Jesus think of your actions? Get your priorities back in line! Torturing your family for money is worse than talking sex!"

And to the actors and producers of the show I say: "You are cruel but I am a voyeur so I will watch the rest of the show even if I think it is evil. If Randi was my daughter or sister, I would not forgive her easily, unless every member of the family that was conned get 1 million dollars too, whatever the outcome."

What do you Uberusers think of the show. Is Randi doing the right thing as a catholic school teacher?

^ My article that explains why Reality TV is necessary.

Anyway, I saw the first ep of this show, and ti was ok, but it wasn't good enough for me to waste TiVo space on it.

MilkMan, the producers also tricked her. In the beginning, she thougth she was going to ba a bachelorette! Then she saw steve and learned of the challenge, falsely believing that Steve is just another contestant in the game.

I don't think she would quit her job unless she won it either.. so I guess we know what the outcome of the show is. ;)
*************
She also quit because of the publicity...

First of all, I think Randi is bangin.

I don't think this show is necessarily testing her catholic morals but just her own personal morals.

I don't think she would quit her job unless she won it either.. so I guess we know what the outcome of the show is. ;)

That guy really does have an awesome job. It would be fun as crap to just act stupid and embarass your "fiance" and be rude to other people. Not that I do that on a frequent basis, but it would be fun occasionally.

I refuse to watch "reality" TV and I hope like hell it will soon become a passed fad.

+0 - Worth the read.

Randi is no longer a Catholic school teacher, and watching the show last night I don't know how she didn't pull him aside and just explode...some of the things he did especially around the food would have been enough for me. Real couples *fight* infront of others...

This show reminds me a lot of "The Joe Schmo Show". He was the only one that didn't know it was a game. I'm guessing that either way, even if her family leaves the wedding she'll still get the money. Especially since he isn't goping for $500,000 like she thinks he is...

She's one of those people who get their morals by picking one from column A and two from Column B. I like him, though.

I am starting to think that it is me that is too greedy! You all seem to think 500k$ is enough money to cover for all the emotional suffering of the family.

About Randi and her family: If the family was not that uptight, I guess it would be too easy to pull it off.

The purpose of my post was to show the contradiction between her actions and the catholic morals she is supposed to live up to.

Can't wait to see Steve's family next week.

Well, come on Vergedor, I mean this is really all in good fun. This is a practical joke with reward money if you pull it off exceptionally well. Now, the parents may not appreciate it at first, but the memory of this silly escapade will be a great story. It'll add character to their lives, a fond, if goofy memory. Plus, she'll get a fat check. I just don' t think immorality applies here. But you're all entitled to your opinion. Maybe you'll feel differently when it's over and you see their faces.

TOTALLY! It really pissed me off that she thought it was inappropriate to discuss SEX with a SEX THERAPIST, especially when they are supposed to be a couple... and yet she finds it perfectly appropriate to lie to her family for money.

Wow, I bet Jesus does love this. And NA is right, this would be a cinch if she just loosened up and went along with it. What a terrible liar she is!

I don't even find her hot. You know, I look at her and think.. damn, I'd hit that. Then she opens her mouth and reveals what an uppity bitch she is. Time with her = NO FUN AT ALL.

PLUS, fastforward into the future and look at what her mother is like. Every woman eventually turns into her mother, and I hate that bitch even though I've only seen a total of 15 seconds of her.

What a family of stupid kuntz.

Good point, NotApologizing.

I don't keep up with the show, but I've watched a few minutes a couple of times, and that guy is HILARIOUS! To hell with the morality of it; I want that guy's job!

*I would tell her to have some fun with it. Just play along and stop being so uptight. She is so stuck on the fact that this guy is fat and ugly, that she never realizes how fucking funny he is.

If it were me, I would say something like:

"Look family, I know he seems rough around the edges and this is very sudden. But I've spent a lot of time with him and there are amazing parts that you don't see until you get closer to him. You have known me my whole life and you have to trust me. I promise that if you support me on this and are willing to accept my decision to marry, then you'll all see in the end why I must be with him."

But instead, she looks disgusted and shocked with everything he does. Loosen your rim Randi! And that money will be yours.

On another note, I don't think they would make a show like this if the gender roles were reversed. People would find it totally unacceptable to call a woman fat and obnoxious. Same would apply to average joe. If those average people were women, then they brought out some hotties and the guy hooked up with them instead, I am sure somewhere there would be a protest.

Dog, I would not do it for 500 000$. Maybe for 3 millions and more. To me, the money amount has to be large enough so that I can treat my victims with large amounts of money and still keep enough so I do not have to work for a long time.

What's so twisted about it? So what you're telling me is you wouldn't do what she's doing - getting popularity, PRIME TIME TV TIME, and $500 fucking large - to trick her family for a week?

Moron.
