I sit on the shore of the Arabian sea, watching the sun set in a pink sky.

My hands run through the sand on the beach. It is black and has the consistency of powder. There is a faint wind flowing around me, bringing the fragrance of incense from the nearby villages. I identify it as sandlewood. Crows fly low overhead and travel behind the dunes just out of my view.

My family heads off, walking along the beach where the land meets the water. My mother's and sister's feet are sandy. In the light that remains after the sun has disappeared into the ocean, I could see the wet line on their clothes where they walked into the waves. My dad is careful not to tread too close, he doesn't want to get dirty. He is still wearing his sneakers.

My sister has her video camera out, making sure she captures every waking moment on camera. I wonder if she actually sees the beauty around her, or is just making a chronicle of events for later perusal. They call out, asking me to join them, but I wave them off, cherishing a moment of peace to enjoy the scenery alone.

The water gradually darkens in unison with the sky which is now a shade of purple. A child plays in the distance, making castles in the sand. There is a small bamboo hut above the dunes, where villagers are making dinner for the evening meal. The aroma of grilled fish greets me and mingles with the smell of the sandlewood already present in the air. They do not fight each other for supremacy but seem content to linger, just on the peripherals of my senses.

I dig my heels into the sand, which is now cooling quite rapidly, and enjoy the last vestiges of light displayed in front of me.

It is delightful.

I could stay here, in this moment, forever.

Hey Tom.

Yep, I'm back. Had an excellent time in India. Saw good things, saw horrible things.

Culture shock.

And the fragrant mists

Doth tickle mine nostrils

And I say, " Lo! is it not good?''

And the wind whispers in mine ear

" It is"

For taking me there

Your mother seems really upset. I better go have a talk with
