With tax season now upon us all, my father's accountant has the dubious honor of researching
both my father and his wife's business expenses to find as many deductions as possible. Now she,
prior to 9-11, was a travel agent for some agency. Since that time, she was let go/fired/quit,
never quite figured that one out. Anyway, she and some other fellow travel agents have
joined together to form their own independent agency, and she has been doing a lot of traveling
to Phoenix, Florida, and Hawaii to negotiate discounts and what not with hotels and rental
agencies. Or so she says.
My fathers accountant has been researching business expenses. He was spot checking her cell
phone bills to make sure that the long distance calls could be written off for business
purposes. What does he find? A number of calls made to pharmaceutical companies on the East
Coast. Legit companies, producing legit drugs that can be used in the manufacture of illegal
substances.
Ok, maybe coincidence. Who knows. So the accountant approaches her and asks her for the name of
her business partners, again for tax purposes. She becomes evasive. "well, I need to talk
to them first. It will take a couple days. I will have them contact you."
Hmmm.....OK. Seems like a straight forward request to me, but whatever.
So, a few days later, she contacts the accountant, and gives him the name and number of
an attorney in Phoenix to deal with.........again, strange, but ok, whatever.....
The accountant turns to a local attorney here in town to contact the attorney in Phoenix.
He does. Only to discover this person is NOT an attorney. So now an attorney is working along
side with the accountant to try and figure out what this woman really does for a living,
how much money she has made, and what she is spending my father's money on.
I KNOW that my father knows something odd is going on. He isnt stupid. He is, however,
prone to taking the path of least resistance, and thus far that path has led him along with
this woman. But I can hear it in his voice when I talk to him. What I dont know is what this
woman may be capable of, if things do not go her way.
Anyway......just venting.

Oops. No offense taken. I get miffed when people call one of my mom's many husbands my 'step-dad' too, but I thought it was just me :p I didn't even think about it. Apologies.
Definitely hard to watch. I hear ya. I guess I have it easier than you, in a sense, because my mom has been like your dad's wife my whole life. The person I see taking the shit is a man I'm not at all close to. Mommy dearest has learned not to give me shit, and I've learned how to deal with her without going nuts. I don't know what I'd do if she started trying her crap on someone I care about.
Call you and ask how to hide bodies, maybe?

Nat,
I know there is nothing I (or anyone, other than dad) can do. Just sucks to have to
sit back and watch the saga unfold as it will. All i know is I have been telling people,
since before they married, that if she hurts my father in any way, they wont find her body.
Oh, and no offense by any means, but PLEASE do not call her my step mother. She may be that
in technical terms, but not in my book........

What whataefag said. Rough situation. Your step-mom sounds like my mom, your dad like my mom's husband. People who choose to live that way...man... There isn't generally much you can do to make them 'see the light.' Hopefully your dad will do what's best for him in the end.

Stay as far the fuck away from situtations like that as you can. I promise, it's none of your business, none of ours, and certainly not something you want to deal with!
