I was just reading an article about Michael Moore in which he stated that typical american citizens have almost no chances of encountering terrorists or being the victim of a terrorist attact. He also said that Bush has been exagerating the dangers and lying to get another term.

I do not want to debate if these allegations are true or not but it made me ask this question to myself: "Which of the followings am I more afraid of? The next actions and decisions of Georges W. Bush or the next attack of Al-Qaeda?"

I return the question to you out of curiosity.

Which of the followings are you more afraid of? The next actions and decisions of Georges W. Bush or the next attack of Al-Qaeda?

Yes, I know, this post does not have quality content. I hope you will provide it with your answers.

Yes, I know, I am a stupid, ignorant, dipshit, moron, asshole, sanctimonious pompous dick. Several uberusers already attributed these qualities to me. Thanks, I am flattered.

The only thing that scares me is that someone will be foolish enough to fund another of Moore's 'documentaries'.

Loki,
As near as I can tell Osama Bin Laden and Al Quida are looking to over throw the American backed Saudi Government and secure the muslim holy lands for those "faithful" that meet their criteria. They are against the west and America in particular because we represent what they fear. An open society that encourages free exchange of ideas. They are threatened by that because of their strick interpretation of muslim law (someone please correct me if I am misinformed). By upsetting their power base in Afganistan we have severely crippled their ability to mount another operation like September 11, 2001. I also think we should follow these sons of bitches anywhere they go, They declared war on us and we should bring the war to them. That is what I meant by them not winning, they are no closer to their goals.

I have very mixed feelings about going to War in Iraq. We have, I believe, accomplished a major long term victory. By having a stable democratic Iraq we are in effecr destabilizing the regions despots. I am as dissapointed as anyone that the primary argument for war seems to be hallow. I don't however hold the current administration completely responsible for this. The eight years prior was full accusations of Saddams misdealings and violations of UN security council resolutions as well as from our European allies. In 2000 I bet you would be hard pressed to find a government willing to say Saddam was playing nice. So I am here because of a decade of either misinformation or bad intellegence, not all of which was acted upon with the intent to mislead our population. We are here now and I think if the cost is to be worth while we need to see it through.

I do not have a good understanding of the Patriot act and much of what I hear is indeed disturbing. I just finished a book about the 1st three administrations of the US and the second was torn apart by "The Alien and Sedition ACT" which was ademately opposed by Jefferson and the Republicans. I look forward to learning more of the Patriot Act, I already eye it with suspicion.

Thank you for your comments

both answers are the same.

I fear george bush because he didnt stop the terrorists even though he was warned. He is trying to stop the official 9-11 investigation. He wont give the evidence they ask for. He wont give them the time they need. Why? Because this would incriminate him. he hasnt done anything to stop terrorism. Wheres osama?

I am not 'scared' necessarily of Bush's next action, freightned maybe. But Bush isn't going to put a bomb through any of us or drive an airplane through any of our buildings. Do I think he's trying to make us scared so he can protect us and get re-elected? Could be, I don't think so, but could be, I wouldn't put anything past him. However, 9/11 did happen.

Personally, I am not really scared of any terrorist actions. Being scared of something that might happen is a waste of time. I have no doubt that we will be the target of more attacks, even on our own soil, however you could drive yourself insane worrying about when, where, and who will be involved. Right now I take serious issues with certain parts of the Patriot Act and the Division of Homeland Security. I work at a major international airport as an aircraft mechanic. As many of you know, since early after 9/11 we had a new security administration developed by the federal government to take over airport security and "Federally standardize it". In comes TSA. Since then the authority has been given to TSA (Transportation Security Administration) to look at me and without any proof declare that I am a threat to local security at the airport where I work. At that point the FAA (Federal Aviation Adminstration) must come to me personally and suspend my Airframe and powerplant license. (The license that allows me to work on civilian and comercial aircraft governed by the Federal Avition Regulations). Once this happens I cannot return to work or to the airport. I can right a letter of dispute that is sent to the TSA officer that declared me a risk to security. At this point he can change his mind and have my license returned or not. If he does not, I have no recourse or right to due process. My license is gone and so is my career.
This wouldn't bother me so much if there was any special training invovled in becoming a TSA security agent. However, all they did was take all the highschool drop outs that were working as security agents prior to 9/11 and rehire them as TSA agents with little to no specialized training on identifying possible threats. The TSA people here can barely figure out how to operate the metal detectors, let alone identify possible risks simply by looking at them.
After saying all that, I will also say that the Patriot Act seems to be, for the most part, out of Bush's hands. Tom Ridge, and congress are hammering it down all our throats.
As for you Loki, maybe the New International Version would be a better fit?

What do you think they were trying to accomplish? Did they even have any goals other than pissing off the American infidels? I said that they won because instead of standing firm, flipping them off, and sending them the message that we will not change, we all ran and duct taped ourselves into our bunkers and then starting shooting anything that moves.

Iraq had nothing to do with that. Maybe good will come of this war but at what cost. Women's rights seem to be moving backwards there, more and more of the Arabic world sees this Bush character bible thumping and it makes it look like a holy war, and who the fuck is shooting at the troops?

I can't get a handle on it. I thought the Ba'ath party was dissolved and yet every fucking day of my life I wake up and hear that more of our guys were killed over night. It seems to be the same fanatical wackos that Saddam was having trouble with. We're going to end up oppressing them just like he did. Maybe we won't use mustard gas, but something has to be done to stop this shit before they can have a viable democracy. Don't forget that Saddam was "elected" by 100% of the voters in Iraq.

Thanks Loki and AmusedinIrak for your inputs. It's a slow uberday but at least intelligent people are writing quality stuff.

I like your info on the transformations going on in Irak. It is something we need to learn from somebody who is actually there without any political agenda. I am glad some iraqis are taking the opportunity to build a working peaceful democracy.

In my view, the terrorists are given way too much importance and attention by the army and the media. I think they should be fought in the shadows of espionnage and assassinations. Keep it a secret, do not let terrorists terrorize the public.

I remember a TV show where the family's house was robbed. The mother and children were all afraid to sleep in the house because they taught the robbers would come back. Then the father said, they did ran away with the TV but do not let them rob you of your sense of security too.

Interesting posts

Loki,
You have some very valid points and concerns that are vital to this discussion, keep it coming.

I do however think you missed the point by declaring that the "Terrorist" have won. They have not. They certainly have changed the world, but THEIR goals have not been achieved.

Everyday I see parts of this country that I doubt any news agency has covered in depth. There is an amazing transformation going on all over this country. Infrastructure and entrepreneurs abound. A free press is working and demonstrations take place accross Iraq often. These are not all pro-west demonstrations either. Many people point to the anti-west demonstrations as a sign that the rebuilding of Iraq is a failed venture. On the contrary I think it shines as an example of the wars success. These same demonstrators would have been violently put down under the old regime.

Whether or not you agree with the pretext for the war, the world is at a cross road. I peaceful democratic, economically viable country oardering Saudi, Kuwait, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, and Iran will have a dramatic effect on the whole world. I for one can't see the end of this, there are many many pit falls ahead, but to say the terrorist won is wrong. The war aint over yet.

In all honesty, I think the terrorists have won. Look at it this way, sure we took over their backwards ass country and bombed them into the stone age, wait they never really left the stone age so we just rearranged the caves they live in. From what I've read and heard on the news, the Taliban is making a come back so hooray for that.

Then we went in and jumped into a snake pit under the guise of making 'merica safe from some two bit hack of a dictator at the cost of hundreds of American lives, the very lives we went in to try to save.

We've pissed off every other country in the world, seriously nobody likes us now, maybe Israel but no one else. Ok, maybe India too but that's just because they all have our old jobs.

The very freedoms that here again, we were trying to protect are being eroded away one by one via the so called Patriot Act. Did you know that there has already been a case where the po-lice have used the onstar system to eavesdrop on people in personal, private vehicles? It got tossed out of court, but not for the reason you think. It was tossed out because using the system in that way disabled the safety features in the car - good times.

Don't even try being a woman here because apparently we're supposed to be barefoot and pregnant without control over our own medical decisions.

and I for one am sick to death of getting Bush's king james bible shoved up my ass

Oh yea, I think the terrorist accomplished quite a bit.
