I'm in a band, its gradually growing. Started out as 3 morons and a laptop apparently, see i wasn't in it then, infact i didn't even know them then. However, i joined later on, i was the seventh. I love this band its great.
We've only gigged once, then our singer buggered off and went travelling for six to eight months. He's back soon. I can't wait.
So while he's been away we've written a new track, we've polished the old stuff, we've sorted out somewhere new to practice when the old studios closed down and we've started writing on a number of new ideas. Also we took on an extra singer to widen the vocal ranges/possibilities - a folk singer with an angelic voice - to add to our throat-singing, Mike Pattonesque vocalist and our main vocalist (the traveller).
So at the beggining of the year we had two drummers, one analog, one electric.
Two guitarists, one bassist(me) and three vocalists, one of which is as much an instrument as a singer. We also had lots of keyboard parts which the main vocalist, myself and the percussion/electric drums guy shared between us.
We're all male aged between 21 and 33.
It's great, it works really well, we've had good reception from our one gig, we've been compared to fantomas, estradasphere and bungle just from that one episode. We've been voted highly for in a best local band of last year, and a best act ever at the venue.
So what have we done, we've taken on a 17 year old female keyboardist! She's very attractive and very mature for her age. We've known her about a week and half now, she's done two practices with us and knows all the keyboard parts to everything and she's fitting in really well.
Well, saturday night, one of the guitarists kissed her. Thats cool, random drunken kiss. They were both a little worried about how it may affect the band and i think both were a little regretful it had happened, but i'm sure it will be cool.
Last night, i almost kissed her! Doh! It was an odd one, i thought she was attractive first time i saw her but i hadn't had any aspirations towards that area at all (she's too young and too small for my liking) however as i left her house last night i turned to say something and suddenly found myself going for it. Was very freaky, one of those impulse things, but i stopped myself and it was a bit weird because i was like. "Hmmm, that was odd, don't quite know what happened there!" But she was cool about it and we laughed it off. So it should be fine. I hope that no awkwardness will occur.
However...
8 guys, 1 girl... 5 single guys, 1 single girl... could be a problem at some point me thinks.
We'll have to see how it goes...

Now, Drky has a lovely GF, I'm still in the band. See all the guys as my brothers rather than potential boyfriends. I'm so happy to be in this band. Best thing ever.

Creepy: Yeah i've been in a couple of bands now but never with a female in the band, every band i've been in has always upheld a tight 'no girlfriends at practice' rule and for good reason i believe. As you say i having nothing against women, just band practice and girlfriends don't mix.
This was what made me wary about getting her in the first place. I expect as long as no one end's up ponying her over the next few weeks all will be fine though...

I thought being in a band of all guys implied she would already be impregnated by at least three of you by now and gargling the other two?
Sheesh, bands seem to be losing their reputations...oh well. +1 for not snogging after you already saw one band member snog. -2 for making me feel like an agony aunt while reading it. Almost made me feel like I care.

Good work with talking it out and making sure it was okay. I've played in a number of bands, almost all of which had at least one female. A lot of those bands split because of trouble between two band members; don't take any chances with getting involved with someone in the same band as you. Very dangerous thing to do. My band now has no females. We plan to keep it that way, just because two of my bandmates are single.
Nothing against women, but come on... It would be asking for trouble.
+1 for knowing when to stop.

Cheers J, yeah i know it's not a good thing.
The ironic this is, i was the one that was
a) sceptical about having a girl in the band for this reason exactly and
b) the one that had a word with both of them after saturday, just making sure that they were aware that it was all fine but that if there was any problems she would go and if he had a problem with it he would go to because the bands more important.
I dunno what happened really. It was completely and utterly odd just to find myself on my way towards her face.
What happened with your lot? I bet that was fucking hard and horrible to have to do...

If you want this band to make any sort of progress y'all need to stop kissing the girl.
Musicians are tempermental enough without tossing in a big bunch of unnecessary emotions in there.
Trust me, been there.
I spent all last week individually taking out each member of my band and explaining that I won't be working with them anymore after 5 years.
Leave well alone.
