More and more I hear people bitching in some whiny nostalgic tone about how wonderful Ubersite used to be back when it had less than 5000 people, or before all the idiots came and ruined everything. Well ubersite is well over 5000 people and unless Bart decides to go Pol Pot and start a mass ubercide, then that's the way things are going to be. No amount of your incessant griping will change that.
Change is inevitable, it in itself is the only constant in life. It was bound to happen here at ubersite. And the only real significant change that happened here at ubersite is that the number of users has increased, and as a result so has the number of posts. And I think the main reason many people are pissed is not because of all the "stupid posts" they claim are clogging up the front page, but rather that their own shitty posts no longer get the immediate credit and adulation they are accustomed to having....in other words they have to work harder to achieve the same amount of success. ACCEPT IT. Competition has, if anything, enriched this site. Granted there are myriad examples of morons posting bullshit for shock value, but the posts that make it through the clutter of crap and nonsense are some of the most heart-warming, side-splittingly humorous, thought-provoking, and well-written things I have ever seen. This includes several users who have over a 5000+ rating.
You people ranting and raving about how you wish things were more like the past...take a good look at yourself...you sound like old geriatric folk complaining about how teenagers play their music too damn loud and how things were so much nicer in the 50's. You people and your endless battle with change and evolution are the same sort of folk that have historically been the roadblocks to progress.
You are the same people that thought Mark Twain's writing is inappropriate and his works should be burned.
You are the same people that wanted to kill Galileo for saying the world was round.
You are the same people that thought it was a bad idea to grant women the right to vote.

What I think he means is that back in the good ol days he didn't have to wade through ten tons of coal to find the occasional diamond. But maybe that's just my interpretation. I can understand a little, simply because when I started lurking a few months ago, there was a lot less crap. There was a lot of crap, true, but still, much less than now. Hell, the first few posts I clicked on, I was like "What the fuck is this shit?" Actually, the only reason I came back was BAW. It showed me that among the crap, there was still some really good stuff to be found. I think it is worth the effort to try new users' posts, because there is still that occasional diamond, or diamond in the rough, even.

I think this post raises some good points. I also find it funny that the "old-timers" are giving it -2's. These are probably some of the same people who post user numbers as insults in their reviews. I see crappy posts get tons of reviews, while good posts by new users get only a few. It makes me want to vomit. I think people would rather get their rocks off insulting the crappy posts than reading a new post by a potentially good user. "Oh, you haven't been around long enough and your number is high, so fuck you, you must not be any good." No, fuck you, my friend, that's bullshit, and you know it, you're just to lazy and/or close-minded to actually invest a bit of your attention span on a new user. But I don't really care. The quality of the reviews matter to me, not the quantity.

And for all the griping and bitching about how the "newbies" simply post extremely short, shock filled crap just to get ratings....i see a ton of negative reviews for posts that are deemed too long ("you expect me to read all of that?!"). My point is that increased people to the site increases competition...and competition is GOOD. This forces not only new writers to produce good shit to get consistently recognized but it makes older writers step up their game. If it weren't for this competition then people would just settle into a state of complacency and this site would totally suck.

Yeah, I know that a lot of newbies are coming in (myself included) and posting shit, but you can't get pissed at the whole group. I frankly couldn't care less if people hate all newbies or hate all of them but me. I just don't like to hear about it every day. I read a few posts from PukingDog and Ace...
they both are good posters. PukingDog, my list doesn't prove anything. Think about it, with so many users registering these days, it's hard to find a good writer in a group of new users. With the flood of posts appearing every 2 minutes on the front page, apparently a few of the new good ones can easily slip through the cracks. I don't know about the second half, but your point is completely valid. Many of us like to write fiction or post our past experiences, spend a lot of time on stuff, only to get 4 reviews.
It kind of drives me crazy, especially when a person can get 30 reviews in an hour and a half on some MILDLY interesting post, just because of who they are.
A lot of the people you are talking about bitch about the quality, but are really just too lazy to find the good new stuff.
