this was inspired by a post i just read http://www.ubersite.com/m/26225
It is so easy to get caught up in past and living with *what might have been* and regretting mistakes made that you can miss out on life in the present and potentially the future. I used to be the kind of person who dwelled on bad decisions and *why did i do that* or *i wish it would have been different* and i found myself losing time on my present life.
The first lesson I learned was, you can't change the past! You can't manipulate it, you can't fix it, it's done and it's over. The only thing you can do is MOVE ON. Accept the mistake you made or the failure you endured and learn from it. Every mistake we make is a lesson we need to learn. It is a source of strength of character.
You can't dwell on regrets because there is nothing you can do to make it any different than it is. And would you want to? If you changed it, your life may have turned out completely different and you may not be the person you have become today. I have made so many mistakes I can't even begin to count them, but I think each mistake has made me a much stronger and all around better person.
The hardest thing to accept is that WE control the ability to change our present situations and possibly our future. I found myself not being able to get past certain events in my life and it was depressing and made me angry all the time. Finally, one day I was sitting there moping again and I said to myself *what is your damn problem? just get over it!* And anytime I would start to think about past mistakes I would just smile and continue thinking about something else.
It is such a dark place when you feel like you are stuck in the past. You can't get back to the reality of what is *NOW* in your life. You find yourself reliving the scenario over and over again. Feeling the same feelings with that twinge of pain in your stomach because you know you can't fix it although you want to so badly.
Being able to live in the present, accept certain past misfortunes, and move on with life will lead to a much happier state of being. And everyone wants to be happy right?

Go Grrrl.
THe problem with most of the boof heads on this site is they have not even got a past to agonise over or the mental ability to even think beyond the immediate present.
AHH that felt good.
Anyway Lacy the thing to remember is that ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that happens to you is because of the choices you make. When you recognise that it is your choice that controls your life you stop being anyones victim and it is easier to move on.

Oh wow. Amen to that. I've done a lot of things in my past that I'm not happy about, but the way I look at it is it made me the person I am today and for that I'm thankful.
