My lease expires on March 31, 2004. I have decided that I am tired of paying rent to a landlord who gives me little to no le-way. I am tired of a landlord telling me I am too loud or I can not do certain things in my own home. I am tired of paying in rent, what I could be paying in a mortgage while they reap the tax benefits. Ladies and gentlemen, Streetpunk is about to become Homeownerpunk.....or Propertyownerpunk. Ok, call me Housepunk for short.
Not only was I tired of all the bullshit that comes with renting, but I am tired of living 30 miles away from my job. Denton, Tx is a hellhole. The speed limits only exceed 35 mph when you are on the highway. Other than that, everyone drives as slow as Roseanne in a hurdle race. The streets are retarded. There is only one road that leads to Wal-Mart and that happens to be completely out of the way of the rest of the city and filled with construction. In that area, they had the genius idea to also build a Pet Smart, Kroger, Best Buy as well as other small stores inside of shopping centers, not to mention a few restaraunts. Let's also not forget all the random one ways that don't make any sense. They just pop up out of nowhere. One second you are on a two way street and the next second, you are dodging cars headed right for you.
Denton Municiple owns the electric company as well. You would think that they would help out the patrons of their city by having a relaxed system. This is not true. They will not work with you on due dates, the give no grace period, they automatically charge a late fee of $10 if one day late, and they shut you off after just 7 days of being late. You know why they are such hardasses? They have a monopoly. They are the only electricity provider in Denton. I actually received a ticket the other day for speeding through a 35 mph zone and guess what, the municiple court is just as unsympathetic. They expect payment in full. Now, in the great city of Amarillo, if you got a ticket you could pay $35 a month until it is paid for. In Denton, you have to request a 30 day extension. In that 30 day period, you make as many partial payments as possible until it's cleared. But Streetpunk, what if you can't pay the entire ticket in 30 days? Well, that's a good question little Billy. If you can't pay the total amount due within that time frame, you have to leave work early, because they only have one court time which is 3 pm, Monday through Friday; and request another extension. Did I mention that each extension costs an additional $25?
I can not say enough bad things about the city of Denton, Tx but that's really just a rant and off topic. Sorry, I didn't take my riddlin today. The fact of the matter is, I found a home that happens to be 15 miles closer to my office in the city of Lewisville, Tx. It is a lovely three bedroom home with a huge backyard. It's located in a family type neighborhood. No more ghetto homes for me.
The home is selling for 84k but i am going to make an offer of 80k today. Hopefully, if this works out, I will never have to deal with a landlord again and, my band will have a place to practice.
Peace,
HOUSEPUNK

If the house you're buying has a septic tank, get all the
info. you can on that. The environmental health department has
records on this stuff. Make sure drainage is not an issue
with your yard. I know this is random. I'm replacing an 8
year old septic system in my yard because I was stupid when I bought
the house and didn't think about anything going wrong with that.
Those bitches are supposed to last around 20 or so years.
Poor drainage on my property is the culprit. I bought the house during
a drought. The drought's over and the trouble has begun.
Just a random 'house buying' thing to think about.

Congrats on making a practical decision. I bought my house a little over a year ago and am thrilled to be landlord-free. Plus I can knock holes in the walls if I ever desire.
About the band practice, though? Don't forget about neighbors.
And whatever you do...get the inspections. All of them.

Yeah. Im saving up now to put a down payment on a condo. Atleast that way my money will actually be going to something, not to mention the tax break. But the concept of owing a condo in florida seems very "Social Securityish" to me.

Good luck. Being a home owner is much better than renting, with the exception of having to fix things yourself when they break.
