Rebellion drips from tongues and lips,
As they collide with pepper spray and nightsticks.
Tiny hairs on the back of my neck,
Don't stand tall with fear OR respect,
And my hands shade my eyes when squad cars drive by.
Police can and will clear the streets,
So if looking for peace the only greet is when John law you'll meet.
As the rift grows between which of those,
Who possesses, and which of those who do not,
The poorest of souls will take the dearest of tolls,
For life is something that can never be bought.
I've been told when a flower grows through cracks in a ghetto,
It is stronger than those that reside in grass meadows,
And every poison and spade that doesn't wilt its pedals,
Is only another match glowing beneath its kettle.
As tempers boil over, citizen meets soldier,
Younger brother, older,
Neither's tears on the other's shoulder.
They say blood is thicker than water,
But when you're dying of thirst, you'll take what you can.
Still, which is worse? I'd rather have water,
If given a choice on what covers my hands.
Just try to feel the fright, of a wall drenching fire fight,
And realize it gained YOUR rights as you lay awake tonight.
I may be wrong, my only perfect vision's hind-sight,
But revolution's coming. You can hear it buzzing in the street lights.
