Alright, so there's a shitload of controversy surrounding "The Passion of the Christ," Mel Gibson's movie detailing the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus Christ. Now, being a Jew, the initial information on this movie made it sound quite offensive. It probably is; people who have seen it say it does, in fact, claim that the Jews condemned Jesus and are therefore responsible for his crucifixion. It's the word of the Christian Bible, which makes it truth, right?

Yes, there's historical validity to the assertion that Jews in high places did not protect Christ from the Roman army. Logically, it makes sense. Rome was terrified of another Jewish uprising and the Jews were terrified of being attacked by the Romans...again. Instead of going against the decree of Rome, the Jews did what they were told. However, this historical fact has been twisted by the Christian perspective to say that the Jews killed him. Why? Well, they were pissed. The Jews that didn't believe in Christ's messianic qualities probably wanted him out of the way (Christian perspective, not mine) and Jews that did believe he was the Messiah certainly shouldn't have given him up to Roman authorities to save their own ass. The result? The gross distortion of history to fit a religious agenda. Shocking, I know.

I probably will see "Passion" because I do think it's important that I gain perspective and I become informed on what is factually correct and incorrect in that movie. However, I also think that it's important to study your history before you go see it and just remember that it's based on a system of beliefs and not accurate historical information.

Last I heard, it was the Romans that did it. In the kitchen. With the candlestick. Oh, sorry, getting my stories mixed. One other note... according to the Christian Bible, Jesus knew his fate and accepted it (somewhat). Please read 'Lamb' by Christopher Moore. Fiction book with a religious bent. Just like "Passion" is a fiction movie with a religious bent. Funny as hell. It answers age-old questions like: What if Jesus knew Kung-fu during the 30 lost years? AND Did Judas of Scariot (sp?) REALLY commit suicide, or did a pissed off Levite with mad martial arts skills snap his neck like a twig? You tell me. Sorry about the extremely poor grammar. OB Lager is great.

Pastor Posts Sign Blaming Jews for Crucifixion
Wednesday, February 25, 2004

DENVER — A pastor displayed the message "Jews Killed The Lord Jesus" in front of his church on a busy Denver thoroughfare Wednesday, prompting outrage from Jews and Christians alike.

The sign in front of Lovingway United Pentecostal Church upset one passer-by so much she bought a ladder that afternoon to remove the first word.

Pastor Maurice Gordon said he was inspired by the intense discussion leading to Wednesday's release of the Mel Gibson film "The Passion of the Christ," which some have criticized as anti-Semitic and others have hailed as powerfully portraying the Crucifixion of Christ. Gibson has denied allegations of anti-Semitism and said the movie does not blame Jews for the death of Jesus.

"I had been listening to debate back and forth on talk radio about who really did it," Gordon told The Associated Press in a phone interview. "What I did, right or wrong, was to give a citation from the Apostle Paul."

Its a movie not a documentery. Its ment to tell a story in an entertaining way. Get the fuck over it. Sheesh...why do wankers always go on and on about the historical accuracy of movies? If you want historical accuracy there are plenty of documenteries out there on the subject.

I don't see why people are getting so upset about The Passion and how it makes Jews responsible for killing Jesus. I wasn't alive 2000 years ago but I've never heard of Jews crucifying anyone. People who still believe the Jews were to blame should consider how the last 2000 years would have progressed if nobody crucified him. I'm not that religious but it sounds more like Divine Intervention and less like holding any man or group of men responsible for what many call the most important time in Earth's history. I personally think a more important time was Andy Kauffman.
