Recently, near where I live, a man was accused of kidnapping and abusing a twelve year old boy. The boy was recovering in hospital, last I heard. The man was living in a halfway house, near a school, after having been released from prison. He is a convicted child molester and has a history of violence.
NO-ONE was told, no-one was warned. This is because the man has a right to re-enter society. He's paid his dues, he's done his time. He's rehabilitated.
He's rehabilitated. He sho' is sorry, and he ain't goan do it no mo', Yer Honour.
I don't give a fuck. If a man who thinks that hurting, raping, and threatening to kill little boys is a good way to spend an afternoon when there's nothing on telly moves into MY neighborhood, I WANT TO FUCKING KNOW.
I'm tired of their rights. Where the fuck are MY rights? My rights as a parent, as a daughter, as a woman, as a person?
If some fifteen year old kid with a drug habit busts into MY home, waving a knife, I want to know that the little fuck is going to a correctional facility. Not that his parents are completing a Positive Parenting course and that he's on a suspended sentence.
Do the parenting courses BEFORE the shithead takes my DVD player. BEFORE.
I'm tired, sick to death, of 'Your Honour, this young man, this victim of society, raped and killed three women because his mother didn't hug him enough.' 'He's a member of a minority group and he's been discriminated against all his life. This was just his way of crying out for help.'
I'm not unsympathetic to disadvantaged kids. I believe there should be failsafes, programs in place to help before it ever reaches that point. But, FUCK, people! If you hurt, if you harm, if you ruin, you have to pay. It's so f'n simple...

Personal responsibility is all but dead in modern society.
On the other hand, where is a pedophile supposed to live after
he is let out of prison?

In some states, the public has to be notified if a sex offender is moving to the area. Like in The Big Lebowski when Jesus has to go door to door and introduce himself as a pederast.

Just recently in Queensland (Aus) an ex-pedophile, who was widely known given he'd been on the news alot, was picketed at his house by protesters who brought along signs saying "no to pedophiles" (that's right, he can't live anywhere) and also BROUGHT ALONG THEIR KIDS for the media campoed outside the house.
___________
Good show. Would have been better if they'd staked him through the ballsack with those signs, though.

Being involved in Child Advocacy Law I completely agree with you.

You say he's "rehabilitated", albeit sarcastically, then you say he finds molesting children a good way to pass the afternoon. Maybe you should be ranting about the standards by which your court system defines rehabilitated rather than the rights of those who have achieved that status.

This is a little bit all over the place. Let's see: sex offender lists *can* be a good thing, but in most real implementations are deeply flawed. Treating juvenile criminals differently from adult criminals *can* be a good thing, but given the unwillingness of parents to take time out of their busy schedules to actually *be* parents, the whole idea needs to be rethought.
And, by the way, I believe it's the responsibility of the parent to kill the person who molests the child. You just can't trust the government to get it right; they don't really have any stake in it. However, you *can* probably get off with manslaughter and a suspended sentence, if you've got a good enough lawyer.

But if my name was on that list, it would be very difficult for me to re-offend. Without the list my life would be much, much easier.

Could you live with yourself, squattail? Would you really believe that you deserve another chance, as a sex offender? If so, then you're an evil fucker.

If I had kidnapped and abused a 12-year old boy, and got labelled as a sex offender, I wouldn't want my name on some list like a common criminal. Each to his own, you know?

If I had kidnapped and abused a 12-year old boy, and got labelled as a sex offender, I would just ask for lethal injection, because I wouldn't want to live with myself.

I understand your concern and as a parent myself, I can agree with the sentiment. However what you're talking about is a past offenders list. These already exist in several states, I know Michigan has one here. I don't agree with it however. Sure, as a parent and a neighbor one might want to know that the man down the street is a molestor. But one must draw the line at being an American also. In America, one isn't condemned by past actions for the duration of citizenship, nor is anyone forced to wear badges, real or otherwise, labeling them as anything.
The line between freedom and fascism is thinner than most people realize.
