I don't know a word to describe it, maybe I'll have a few when im done..
First let me start off with a bit about myself. I'm 15, turning 16 next month, I've been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome just last month, after visiting a psychologists for a few months because of my outpatient program with the heath department for depression. Asperger's is basically a form of autism, thankfully a lighter kind... It affects my ability socially as well as in nonverbal form. The only thing that seperates me from a person with "full-blown" autism is that my IQ (beleive it or not, I don't sometimes) is above well above 70.
Other than this impairment, I was born with bad eyes... As you may already know, bad eyes = thick glasses.. I now pay around $400.00 for a pair of soft-toric contacts which do help alot, then I don't need people to come up to me and point out the fact "my eyes are big"
Both of my parents are overweight, and so am I. I'm not proud of being overweight, but I accept it. My weight comes and goes. Being overweight is actually not that bad in my honest opinion, but being obese... that's just sort of disgusting.
So let's roll this up..
aspergers (social probs, shitty motor skills)
thick glasses
+ overweight
=====================
what kids in highschool often refer to as... a "nerd"
Despite the fact my grades are around an 65% average, I somehow manage to succeed to still be considered a nerd for the way I look, the way I interact with people socially, and also the fact that I adore computers.
Well, it's wierd how my perspective of things are a bit different than others. Around a year ago, instead of trying to be "cool" and fit in I decided to observe some of the people who do socialize around school.
The first people I noticed were the "popular" people. Some people call these people 'preppy'. In my mind preppy means rich, but not alot of the people who do go to my school are rich. How about a definition:
"A person whose manner and dress are deemed typical of traditional preparatory schools." Good, well, usually in prep schools (forgive me if I am wrong) people usually dress in more professional-looking clothing. At my school the people who are popular usually dress in brand-name clothing, such as Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle, etc. I sort of find it wierd how people who try to dress preppy at school and hang out around that group of people are considered "popular". I noticed most of the people don't like these people, except for the group of people who sort of look up to them and try to be like them. That sort of confused me.
The people who do hung out with this "popular" group often had sort of a superior attitude to everyone else. For instance it seems as if a person at this rank would consider everyone different or "below" him seemingly lower than he or she in a form of life. This would make me angry if it was true, but I ignore it, they will have there day.
That was group #1... The popular and the people who try to hang out with the popular.
The people who don't hang out with them and still aren't nerds I would call regular people
Some Regular people (it seems to me) can actually care more about how they look infront of people than the people above them on the ladder. It's sort of wierd, if you go up and mess with a regular person they will get embarassed and sort of get bitchy... While if you go up to a person above them they will probably laugh it off.
Honestly, they both piss me off.
Then really... are the people considered rejects.. They don't try to conform to anything, but they try to be unique / intimidating. I guess this would include what I learned were called goths, emos, punks, nerds, geeks. Every school is different, in some they get along, in others they fight with each other. That's groups. Now on to just the teen attitude in general:
- Bullies: I had to put a word about these people... It's sort of wierd, but if you haven't noticed meaness is just insecurity.. I have a group of kids who messes with me in school right now and you know what I think... THERE LOSERS.. To anyone who gets fucked with, remember, these people are fucking trashy idiots who have no idea what the hell they are doing. 90% of the time if they aren't in groups or no one is around for them to impress, they won't even try to make eye contact with you. Fuck them, if a person has the need to prove themselves, just walk away, don't let those jerks get to you.
- Sexual Innuendos: They pisses me off beyond belief. Teens at my school always seem to have to make themselves sophisticated by mentioning sex in some way.. Observe:
bummer090: are we going to hang out tonight- orgy even maybe- or go get me a carmel frapacino- i want one so bvad
bummer090: Why do you want to conenct- i accepted- im going to go grab a brownie- be back in one sick sad second
bummer090: Bummer090 (4:53:18 PM): Brownies are sex
LDogg3308 (4:53:27 PM): im sex
That was from one of my trillian logs. These people don't actually want to have an orgy, it's just that for some reason they need to mention it. Bs. It happens in real life alot too, in different forms.
- Girls:
Observe this:
due to both of our hearts being crushed under the weight of pathetic guys who move on quick because of their insecurity and need to feel wanted, while leaving the pathetic girl alone to rot. (from: http://www.livejournal.com/users/gimmeesum41/)
I didn't know whether to be pissed, laugh, or feel sorry.... This lady thinks these guys wanting to get an orgasm was because of there insecurity and need to feel wanted. It's nice to see she is finally noticing insecurity and feeling wanted play a role in life, but in the wrong place. She probably has more insecurity and a need to feel wanted than anyone. Hell, she tries so hard to fit in with all the "popular" people at school. BS.
How about another from this lady...
Also.... All you depressed boys that I am caught up with... Get undepressed, walk in someone else's shoes and then tell me how your life is. No matter how bad life gets, someones ALWAYS got it worse. Just because you got in a fight with your parents, or a girl doesn't like you isn't any reason to spaz. But I guess it's none of my business, just take into consideration--- it could be worse.
Now, at the time of her posting this, I was miserable as hell with my MDD, anxious, watching my alchoholic mom get drunk out of her mind, and my sister fucking pound on my wall all day. And she fucking tells me, to "get undepressed"... "walk in someone elses shoes, THEN tell me how your life is".. Well that fucking bitch is as blind as a bat, she contradicted herself with the mere fact she hasnt took a stroll in my shoes. So tell me, when I was fucking group therapy in inpatient, why didn't the psychiatrist tell me to sit down... and think about fucking other people in the world? BECAUSE I CANT DEAL WITH MY FUCKING SELF, ASSHOLE.
Observe one last time:
Sometimes you take things for grantite and you may never have an oportunity to again, and I've definatly had one of those times.... and it took me until right now to notice.... how could I be so blind? I think I'm at fault, and now I'm paying...
Funny, how this the girl I see pass by me in the hall with a new guy every mother fucking week, and trust me, I may be fucked up in the head, but still have my testicles intact... All these guys wanted to do, is get in your pants..
So yeah, that's girls.
Let me keep that as the closing to my examples.. People in high school can be ignorant, think they are better than you when they are infact not, and all be stuck in there own little pathetic worlds.. All I'm saying is, If I'm criticyzed by assholes who will end up working at mcdonalds the rest of there lives becauses I am on the computer all day.. That's there fucking choice.
Forgive me if I can't write.. It's just had to try to shed light ont he subject.

I don't enjoy highschool, but I do accept it for what it is without *too* many complaints. It is 90% social proving ground. However, it's inconsequential whether you prove yourself, admitted. But it does teach you lessons on how to be, and it gets you somewhat ready for the real world. High school is kind've like a preview of the real world, and it teaches you things you need to know.
If yo'ure fat, get unfat. Don't be satisfied with it, because with just a little more work, you could be not fat.
I agree with CATAL 100%.

I'm a sophomore (16) and High School is fuckin' boring. The people at my school are boring, and there are no girls (at my school), I always have to look to other schools. HS sucks, I can't wait for real life.

hey, a question... When did I or anyone else for that matter say you said you were gonna be a millionaire, i just said i hate it how people think that alkl the jocks are gonna be working at McDonalds and all the nerds will tunr out to be Bill Gates. I was commenting more on what a reply said about driving a BMW and a Mercedes at the High School reunion while all the popular kids apparently work in Bowling alleys and drink paint thinner. heh. anyway, i'm not a jock, but i don't have misconceptions either.

Hey, you sound like a real loser. Here is my advice anyway, I dont claim to be the most succesful person in the universe (read here http://www.ubersite.com/cgi-bin/message_get.cgi?message=107846945172583705), I recently moved to a new school and a group of guys started making fun of me for whatever reason, instead of ignoring it like a bitch I waited until I saw one of the group whom I found most intolerable walking with his girl friend.
The guy started talking shit and so I hit him on the bridge of the nose as hard as I could and I just screamed at him and his stupid girl friend. I was suspened for two days but it was worth it, I am not trying to sound like I am a tough guy or something, I am not at all but nobody expects the kid they are making fun of to walk up and hit them. If I were you I would give it a try, or use a stick or something.

Hey... A question.. Where did I say I would be a millionaire? When I look at someone elses state financially.. I wouldn't say that improves mine. Then, I can't say me having a 60% avg (not that it wont go up) will keep me from getting a great job in IT. I'm not saying this in turn to what other people say... such as: anyone but nerds get to grow up and work up at mcdonalds... while nerds like me become millionaires... I see tons of people just like me grow up to be just as much of losers as the people that pick on me.

haha, he said he's fat.
also, if i was a nerd, i would hate to be classified right along with the bullies, preppies, girls, and let's not forget sexual innuendos. Remember Tony, you are a beautiful snowflake, one of a kind, and a unique individual, just like everyone else. Never forget that those jocks you see, those one dimensional, care free, i-get-everything-i-want jocks that you so pundently analyze and are worth so much of your time, are going to work at mcdonalds after high school, while you, dear unique Tony, will find a great job with your 1.1 gpa and incessant ranting on kids who complain too much.
please.

good post, but i have to say my mind.
what i hate even more than the assholes at highschool (or any school for that matter) is the people who say, "Yeah well he'll be working at McDonalds while I'm a millionaire." or some shit like that. fuck, even if that is true, it might not be. They may move on to bigger anbd better things. they may still be assholes when rich, or they may have a change of heart or may study harder. who knows?
i have more shit to say, but i just don't care.

In 2 years you'll have a whole new world of assess to deal with. I'd rather give up the "adult" people I'm around to be back and deal with teenage problems. They aren't anything compared to adult problems. I do agree any girl that is with another boy every week as some serious issues she needs to address and work out, or she'll more than likely end up pregnant before she graduates or have some serious STD's.
When I graduated there were already 14 confirmed cases of HIV. I wonder how many people got it from the ones who didn't know they carried it. And coming up on my 10yr I know of 6 people that died from AIDS.
I may be an ass but you get what you paid for.
Keep truckin man, after you graduate you don't have to deal with these people anymore, and people start to treating you better, and most of the jocks and popular people will end up working at Micky D's or the like, and I'll probably have to fire them 3 weeks later for sucking to much.

Stop thinking.
This is the best advice you will get during high school.
I spent the better part of my freshman and sophmore years trying figure other people out. Then a senior who was the TA in my PE class, after listening to me bitch for about 10 minutes smacked me upside the head and said "Fuckin A, Paul, you need to stop fucking thinking so much" I'm sorry I can't smack you, but you get it.
When you stop trying to figure out everyone else, you figure out a lot about yourself. Then, people just start to make sense.

Spreading the plus two love.
I am also in highschool (shh don't tell, they'll hurt me...) and for me it's pretty awful, but for different reasons than you and most other ranters point out.
For me, my inability to concentrate on inane subjects (which some like to call mild ADD) and the overall lack of intellectual stimulation that I can get while listening to someone spoon feed me drivel and call it knowledge makes me hate highschool.
Socially, I might just have gotten lucky, highschool isn't too bad for me. I think it's partially me; I am good at outwardly conforming to people's expectations of me, and I am mildly attractive, middle class, and white, which always helps. But I also may just go to a highschool that for some reason doesn't fulfill the social standards of others (it's an incredibly diverse, city magnet school). The "popular" group isn't so much of a problem, if you don't care, then for some reason they gravitate towards you. The problem at my school is more just a general array of cliques and bitchy girls. High school girls, except for three, count them, three, that I have found, (if I include myself, 3.5, since I don't count as completely unbitchy) suck.
I don't know where I am going with this. Shake it off, wait it through, it will be over soon.

Tony, Tony, Tony...
Of course guys want to get into the pants of girls, it's always been like that and it always will be. The girls are not dumb, however. They KNOW the guy will do what it takes to get in her pants, so she will milk him for all he's worth. In the end, the guy will give up and leave or will score...then leave. Then the girl moves on to another guy the next week.
Unfortunately, I think I was in the social circle you talk bad about in highschool. Yes, I did/still do wear Abercrombie and all the brands you mentioned;not because they are what the ''popular kids'' wear, but because I actually liked the fact that I was spending my mom's money and that was the most expensive store.
Since I was involved with sports, I'd usually wear basketball shorts and a white t-shirt to school so I didn't have to change for basketball practice/track, etc. But since wearing spiked bangs is considered preppy, guess what I was labeled?
Labels suck. I wasn't your average sports playing popular kid who would ignore those who didn't dress like me or who were in the same social circle. As a matter of fact, many of the popular guys stopped hanging around me because of some of the people I chose to associate with.
Guess what, Tony? The joke's on them.
When they get out of highschool, popularity doesn't mean shit anymore. It's what's inside that head of theirs that's going to carry them through life now. 5 years after your highschool graduation, you'll show up at the school in your brand new Mercedes/BMW/Audi/Cadillac, pulling right up besides your old highschool QB's '89 Toyota Tercel. You'll be a computer programmer, he'll be making minimum wage.
Hang in there, bud. It'll pay off in the longrun.
Listen to me on this-- Don't make ANY excuses about your grades, all you have to do is apply yourself. Study for EVERYTHING, do ALL of your homework. If it's not too late, perhaps you can get a free ride to college.

Man I like Tom more, now. Let me spill the beans on myself in high school, I was a general nobody. Without going into detail (I don't ever want to see them again), my nickname in grades 9-11 was related to an incident in grade 9 tech class when I forgot to put on deodorant ONCE! Anyway I had a bad nickname until I decided to leave, and then at the other school I just made it through because I was too burnt out to try and enjoy high school.

Having the perception that your social skills suck isn't really a good reason to sort of isolate yourself and just watch people from a distance. Although I liked your observations, it's important that you practice talking if you want to improve your social skills, which, by the way, couldn't be all that bad if you can write something like this. A lot of 15-16 year olds wouldn't be capable of writing something half this coherent.

You have a rich vocabulary and write well for someone still in highschool. If you have an academic problem, I couldn't tell it here.
I recently moved back into my hometown to practice law. Down the street from my office there's a car lot where the quarterback of my highschool football team now works for minimum wage detailing cars. He was the king of roast back in the day, and now he's a social leaper.
My point is, highschool is not a meritocracy. A few years out of school, when life is sink or swim and you can't rely on your parents money to get you buy, the whole social order gets reshuffled. Ten years down the line, you'll find the coolest people there were nobody's in school.
Good luck to you.

High School sucked big balls. Let me put it this way:
High School sucks because you don't have to pay for it.
College rocks (I have yet to confirm that) because you have to pay for it.
How much money YOU put into it determines how much of a good time you have.
