Damn...
Do you, any of you, really care about your ratings? Stupid question, of course some of you do.
Why are they so important? Is it credibility you crave?
So what if people -2 or +2 your writings. It doesn't matter. If you were planning on selling your work, do you think publishers would really care if one person constantly -2s (or +2s) your work when it's obvious they are just doing it for attention?
If you're not planning on selling it, then it must just be for "street cred" on the net. Whoopee.
So someone has a better (or worse) overall rating than you. Does this really make a difference in your lives? Think about it. If it does, then you should do some soul searching. If having a good rating is that important to you, it sounds like you are too concerned with how other people perceive you.
Do you really require that pat on the back? Is your need for a good score so dire that you need to complain about others scoring rights? Or is it that you want to use your score to brag to others?
You all must see how inconsequential this is.
The hierarchy you are all so eager to climb does not exist except within your own minds. Yet you are all so willing to stab each other in the back to step up to the next rung.
Human nature I guess.
...and so continues the rat race.

Ratings are a small attempt at helping to judge quality. Without them you wouldnt be able to tell a high quality writer from a terrible one. Please point out a writer that has horrible ratings and yet has high quality work? You wont find one.
About bickering: As a person who has been here much longer then I, you should know that bickering has been around forever. You think people will read this post and all of a sudden say to themselves, " MOssiah is right. I should stop arguing and just start churming out those goods posts i have in me."
This post will do nothing but waste space and not help at all.

Everything you said is correct. I guess I was just wishing it could be the way it was. As for helping to judge quality, I didn't think of that. It's true. I never used to have to look around for great writers, as there were less people on the site before, and most of the names on the front page were recognisable.
Ah, now I sound like one of those old men lamenting the "good old days". Haha. Oh well. It's a forever changing site I suppose, and either I change with it, or get left behind.

I would just like things to be centred more around quality, and not around bragging rights. It seems to be popping up everywhere.
Now things are just about "He said this and I can prove it - *put up a link*". Yeah well you said this *put up a link*".
It's bickering. It's boring.
In a way, you are correct. I am now simply another statistic. And I know that this post will make no overall difference. People will still do exactly as they have been doing.
I was just hoping that a couple of people would open their eyes.

I guess I'd have to agree there that some might let this here "internet cult" go to their heads.
I just write for fun and use this medium as an outlet for my insanity, so that I don't stab anyone.

And yes, it's true. I don't care about ratings.
That's not what my point was about. I was trying to make others ask themselves why it Does matter so much to them. That I am intrigued about.

Why are you posting this? If you don't care about ratings then why are you posting specifically about ratings.
Shame.
