This is such fucking bullshit. For those of you to lazy to read the article above let me summarize.
Viacom (the owners of MTV, CBS, VHI, Comedy-fuckin-Central, Nick and nick at night and a few others) and Dish-wellfuckmyass-Network have decided to have a contract war in public on my TV and the TVs of millions of other DishNetwork subscribers.
"In what Viacom calls "channel yanking... on an unprecedented scale," Dish Network says that it is refusing to carry them because of "unreasonable" rate increases proposed by Viacom. The situation at the current time, therefore, is that viewers in the following markets are not able to receive their local CBS station over the digital satellite service: Austin, Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Denver, Detroit, Green Bay, Wis., Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City and San Francisco. Meanwhile, customers of Dish Network nationwide are unable to receive BET, Comedy Central, MTV, MTV2, MTV Espanol, Nickelodeon, Nick Games & Sports, Noggin, VH1, VH1 Classic and CBS-HD East and West."
Now, honestly I don't give two fucks about CBS (except Letterman, his could rule Leno's ass bigtime)
But I do care about Comedy Central. alot. I need it. I must have my Dave Chappell/Atell fix. Even though these missing channels make up a whopping 6.5% of the average programming package for Dish network Subscribers, we get ourselves a very respectable 1.00 credit on our bill for each month that the negotiations are in progress. Let me restate that last part. EACH MONTH THAT THE NEGOTIATIONS ARE IN PROGRESS, that means to me that they figure there will be a stale-mate for quite some time.
One angle that Dish Network thinks they can exploit is the "Viacom is holding the public airways hostage" bullshit. Dish Network is actually trying to get a Congressional Hearing over this shit. Thats right Congress. If our fucking government wasn't busy enough with useless legislation (like putting an amendment in the constitution defining marriage) they get to decide who wins in a fight between two CEOs with the about half of the charisma as a half empty diet pepsi or Al Gore.
And.....I'm spent.
