Alright so it's not a band. It's just me. The recording sucks, but I'm a poor college student and my voice isn't that great, but so what? So now that I've gotten your hopes down, here you go:
http://www.sonicgarden.com/sonic-web/artist.cfm?artistid=18277
The 'Spark' track is live at some friends house, the other two are done through my computer's mic on one track (hence the cruddy sound). People I know seem to like it, but I'm asking you guys to listen to it because I know you'll give an honest opinion. I'm considering professional recording (I'd add drum tracks, etc. of course) and I want to gauge the response, so listen to it with the consideration that the sound quality should be much better.
'Soda' is my nickname.
Sorry for the double-post, but I'm stuck at school for spring break because of spring training (which I was disappointed to find does not involve slinkies).
Oh yeah, for those of you who have solved my riddles posts, drop me an e-mail with the answers.

You've got promise. Gutsy move to put your recording out there, too.

I'm sorry, but i can't sop laughing at the voice. You are, however, very good with guitar

I like, I really do. I can hear the Ben Harper influences.
Like everyone else said, you need a little work with your voice, but now that you're aware of that, you'll be able to fix it up a little.
There needs to be a little work on flowing your rhythm a bit better when you sing along with the playing, but for the most part, it sounds good.
It's good enough that I was picturing different bass lines to go along with it when I listening ;)
(I'm a bass player)
I definately say record, I'd buy it.

like the others said, the vocals are a bit strained but the guitar is pretty unique. keep working at it, you could go somewhere.

yeah, anticipation has that john mayerish quality to it. not neccesarily a bad thing, but i'd prefer an original style. i wrote victoria about an hour before i recorded it, so the vocals aren't dead on (and they still probably aren't).
catchy. i don't know. i like catchy because it'll stick in someone's head, but i don't like catchy because it might lead to gimmicky, which i don't want. it's like this: i want the music to reach a lot of people and i want them to like it, but i don't want to become a slave to what they like. if that makes any sense. I'm about the music; i'm the perfect cliche of the aspiring musician.

victoria was pretty good, it had a good track to it, although I didnt like the vocals all that much...they got somewhat better later on.
anticipation was a little generic and got kinda old, although it's somewhat catchy. is catchy what you're going for though?

haha, that would be great if you could e-mail me that. my voice has always been my biggest weakness in my eyes. i only started singing about a year ago; i was god-awful at first. i used to think it was one of those things where you have it or you don't, but i try to practice. i'm always looking for ways to improve.
thanks, you're the best

Sexy,
You can get vocal power and volume without pushing in your throat. It's all about breathing. I have some voice stuff I wrote up for a vocal coaching job I did for a play last winter---do you want me to email you a copy? You can also look at books by Kristen Linklater or Patsy Rodenburg and focus on the breathing exercises. They'll apply most to the singing. You could also take voice lessons with someone at your school. You've got a great instrument there and I know that if you had the techniques you could really infect people with that voice.

well honey,
first off, thank you. i started off with the straight up vocals stuff, but i felt that playing alone left something to be desired, some kind of signature sound or something. i experiment a lot and right now is kind of a tom waits phase for me. i believe he has throat cancer or something so the sound comes naturally to him i'm sure. i'm into that bluesy emotional sound.
but i know what you mean. sometimes after practicing for a long time my throat does hurt. i think one of the primary reasons i sound like that in these songs is that my microphone won't pick up my voice so well when i sing quietly. i'm not usually so abusive.
seriously, thank you for the comments though. it's just the kind of inspiration i need to keep on playing.

Ok, did you ask me to marry you before? Because if so, I'd just like to take this opportunity to say (read like "When Harry Met Sally")
yes....Yes....YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your playing is kick ass, and I really like it. I don't have anything constructive to offer about that, but I do have vocal stuff.
Let me be perfectly honest. If you continue to sing that way, you will have no voice by the time you are 30. I can feel the tension in your throat all the way here in Maryland. You've absolutely got to let go of any tension in your throat when you sing.
The raspy, grovely sounds in your voice are the sounds of vocal abuse. If you feel ANYTHING in your throat, from slight pressure, to tiredness after singing, to pain (especially pain) then it's a sign that you are abusing your voice. Not only will this lead to problems later on, but it actually hurts the music right now. Your voice isn't free to express a full range of thoughts and emotions. It's not as responsive to things because you're forcing it at times. There's a general "wash" over all of the songs so they sound similar. There's an 'angsty' feel that's coming from the vocal quality that you might not want for EVERYTHING you sing. You know?
Your future wife,
SpikeGoddess
