Ann Coulter: Evil, or just stupid? (1321 hits)

There has to be a combination here. No way she can be classified in either category completely. However, this is a new series dedicated to e-smacking that dumb bitch.

The most recent "article" on <a href="http://www.anncoulter.com" target="_blank">AnnCoulter.com</a> is titled W.W.J.K: Who Would Jesus Kill? Forget that her article has nothing to do with Jesus murdering anyone, but rather just blindly attacks random liberals for random shit without first looking up her facts. Let's look at some of this drivel:

"The New York Times' in-house 'conservative' -- who endorsed Bill Clinton in 1992, like so many conservatives..." Good job staying on-topic there Ann. Glad you were able to take a stab at the New York Times for no reason whatsoever. I'm also glad this guy has a liberal disposition. It's nice that the human writers of a newspaper have their own opinions that may differ from your own. If he didn't think for himself, he'd be forced to follow people like you around. Oh God, the thought of more than one person who thinks just like you is simply nauseating. Eugh.

Onto the "content" of the article...

With all the subtlety of a Mack truck, Safire called Gibson's movie a version of "the medieval 'passion play,' preserved in pre-Hitler Germany at Oberammergau, a source of the hatred of all Jews as 'Christ killers.'" (Certainly every Aryan Nation skinhead murderer I've ever met was also a devoted theater buff and "passion play" aficionado.)

The "passion play" has been put on in Germany since at least 1633. I guess 1633 would be "pre-Hitler." In addition, Moses walked the Earth "pre-Hitler." The wheel was invented "pre-Hitler." People ate soup "pre-Hitler." Referring to the passion play as "pre-Hitler" is a slightly fancier version of every adolescent's favorite argument: You're like Hitler!

Wait...WHAT?!? Did that even say anything? Maybe. Let's take a look. She quotes the Times guy (I think, because she never actually says who "Safire" is. I'm going to assume she meant the Clinton-endorsing conservative.) in his analysis of "passion plays" and anti-Semitism. Notice how she twists the words about Hitler against this random person. The words pre-Hitler clearly only refer to "the time before Hitler" meaning that people who put on "passion plays" weren't following the German dictator. That does not change the fact that the "passion play" can be a source of anti-Semitism. While Mel Gibson's movie may not necessarily be virulently anti-Semitic (a point I'll get to later), the Bible's version of the facts have (historically) been a source of anti-Jewish sentiment. For instance, shortly after Gibson's movie was released, the priest of a Denver church put a hateful message up (something along the lines of "The Jews killed Jesus") in order to bring people into his church. So you tell me Ann, do "passion plays" breed anti-Semitism in the uneducated? Looks to me like they do. But I'll just report, you decide.

Another quick note on this quote is that she mentions "every adolescent's favorite argument: You're like Hitler!"(Italics hers). So that means to Ann Coulter, the typical adolescent argument goes like this:

Adolescent 1: I hate you. You're ugly and you smell.
Adolescent 2: Yeah? Well...YOU'RE LIKE HITLER!!

The stupidity of that statement just astounds me. I don't think I've ever heard anybody maliciously call anybody else Hitler (especially an adolescent). Seriously, where did this come from? That's just plain dumb. I don't even know what to say, except for the fact that my I.Q. dropped a number of points after reading that sentence. Damn.

Blah blah blah, she talks about how Hitler hated Christians. Thanks again for the meaningful argument, but that was certainly a colossal waste of time.

Whoop, then there's a random stab at abortion; once again, very helpful.

But according to liberals, it's Christianity that causes murder. (And don't get them started on Zionism.) Like their Muslim friends still harping about the Crusades, liberals won't "move on" from the Spanish Inquisition. In the entire 350 years of the Spanish Inquisition, about 30,000 people were killed. That's an average of less than 100 a year. Stalin knocked off that many kulaks before breakfast.

Hm...well besides the fact that she just pulls a random assertion about "liberals" out of thin air, she may have the skeletons of a point here. Yeah, people have died in the names of other religions than Christianity. The fact remains, however, that more people have been killed in the name of God than for any other reason...ever. Regardless of the faith, the point that's important to understand is that hateful rhetoric grounded in any religion has historically been used as justification for murder. It's movies like Gibson's that often mislead (whether that is purposeful or accidental) people, which in turn causes hate, which in turn can cause murder. It's not just Christianity, but actually religious zeal in general that does that. So it's not always Christians that kill for morality! Good job Ann! You get a gold star.

But Safire argues that viewers of "The Passion" will see the Jewish mob and think: "Who was responsible for this cruel humiliation? What villain deserves to be punished?"

Let's see: It was a Roman who ordered Christ's execution, and Romans who did all the flaying, taunting and crucifying. Perhaps Safire is indulging in his own negative stereotyping about Jews by assuming they simply viewed Romans as "the help."

But again I ask: Does anyone at the Times have the vaguest notion what Christianity is? (Besides people who go around putting up nativity scenes that have to be taken down by court order?) The religion that toppled the Roman Empire -- anyone?

Gotta side with Safire in the first paragraph. That's kind of the point that everybody's been arguing about, but whatever works.

Onto the actual arguments here. I've addressed some of them before. Yes, there is some historical fact to support that the Jews did not protect Christ. I do agree with Coulter here (WHOA!!) in that had Christ not been killed by somebody, the entire basis for the religion would be shot (a point she makes further down). However, people fail to realize that the only portion of the Jews that had any power in Rome at all were religious zealots. They were a very small sect of Judaism at the time, and did not represent the interests or beliefs of the Jewish community as a whole. It's not like all the Jews got together in their temples and decided "Hm, let's kill this Jebus guy." People who misunderstand Gibson's movie may get this idea, but from what I hear, Gibson was pretty clear in his distinction of who played what role in the death of Christ.

Oh, and the "religion that toppled the Roman Empire"? Hardly. The empire was weaker than the earlier republic, was overextended, and began to face serious barbarian invasions. Next to these enormous problems, the issues with Christianity were relatively minor in the factors dealing with Rome's decline.

And then we have a bunch of prattling about liberals, and how they want to destroy Christianity (or are "afraid of it") while supporting evil Islam. After all, all Muslims are terrorists and directly responsible for 9-11, right?

So...much...anger...blood...boiling...

Hard to read.

I dunno, Ann Coulter is obnoxious and dangerously crazy, but I think a lot of people also know that and the ones who don't, agree with her craziness anyway, so she's mostly harmless.

Uggg. This sucked. I'd debate some of the points, but it was just too hard to read.

But just to clue you in a little bit about those "adolescent" arguments. . . "You are like Hitler" is # 1. "More people have been killed in the name of God than any other reason. Ever." is #2.

Having a life I won't analyze this in depth.
She's saying the libs pushed for conservative right wing america to slash and burn the jewish community over a fucking movie. It didn't happen as spun by the libs, those slavering at the mouth
